This weekend I took a stab at getting my kitchen cabinets reorganized. I trashed a bunch of old tupperware and added a bunch of new Pyrex but in the process I got to figuring that there must be a better way of keeping track of all the damned lids. All the plastic stuff is neatly stacked and all the class stuff is neatly stacked but the lids are all in a pile!

I've tried leaning them up next to the appropriate pile but whenever I need a bowl they go rolling all over the place. The rectangular ones work better in that regard but the little lids get lost with the bigger lids and it's a PITA to get the right one.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

lids just seem to crawl away over time... every so often we haul the battered survivors to Goodwill and buy a new color. All the lids go into a wire organizer that sits on the same shelf as all the bowls. When it takes more than three tries to find the proper lid I announce 'Goodwill Time!" and we are off to get a new color.

You a carpenter? Or at least can use tools? If you can then make a rack for the lids. Otherwise go to the hardware store or BedBath and beyond and get napkin holders or the like that will fit the lids. They will be stacked vertically. Just get a couple of small blocks to act as chocks in the holder for the round lids and glue them into holder.

On many of my containers, I keep the lids on the containers to store. Otherwise, I often can't find the mates, and I end up with various unmatched pieces, and it drives me nuts.

At my old house I used to have a file cabinet in the kitchen to organize all that stuff.

I think that's the direction I'm going to go. It shouldn't be too tough to put a rollout in one of the other cabinets.

I'd do that except that it takes up too much space.

That's what I do the lids on top of the stacked containers.

If anybody ever uses the above, please let me know. Usually those "as seen on TV" things don't work, but every now and then, they do. I love that new hose thing that shrinks when the water is turned off. I have two of them.

I do like the dish drainer idea, but I don't have a ton of room for anything like that. I have a pretty big plastic storage box that is usually used for shoes, or whatever. It's about 2' long, 1' deep, 1' wide. I just dump all the lids in there.

Now if I could just find all my coffee mug travel cup lids.

Tupper ware lids *used* to all have a tab on the side with a hole in it.
That hole was used to hook the lids onto a metal prong (a row of prongs could hold a few lines of lids on the door inside a cabinet or inside of a drawer)

I guess they might not these days - the dish rack is cool. They're cheap. You can also buy plastic baskets and containers like that.
