Liberals in southern Arizona seek to form new state - Yahoo! NewsTUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) - A long-simmering movement by liberal stalwarts in southern Arizona to break away from the rest of the largely conservative state is at a boiling point as secession backers press to bring their longshot ambition to the forefront of Arizona politics.
A group of lawyers from the Democratic stronghold of Tucson and surrounding Pima County have launched a petition drive seeking support for a November 2012 ballot question on whether the 48th state should be divided in two.
The ultimate goal of the newly formed political action committee Start our State is to split Pima County off into what would become the nation's 51st state, tentatively dubbed Baja Arizona.
The chances of this ever happening are very slim.
The goofy Liberals have taken over California and it is now on the verge of becoming a Mexican State because of the massive influx of illegals and the Liberals wrecking not only the Economy, job, market, but they have driven our school system from being number one in the Nation to being number 49 just ahead of Mississippi in the last 35 years.
While the thought of the State Seceding is silly, it won't happen regardless what the Feds do. The demographics of the state for one have changed. The actual ability to do such is... not there and frankly...
As a message by the people in protest, I'm down with that. I'd of waited for the SCOTUS to rule on Obamacare. If that's ruled "constitutional" then they'd have a lot more ammo.
I wonder what MrV had to say about Texas attempting to seccede...
So far so good. It won't happen, he is right. What is the rest of his post on it.
So what we learn today is when republicans do something, he is down with that, but when liberals do the same basic thing, he just giggles.

And once again, Redress, fails in the arena of "CONTEXT".
Texas, seceding from the NATION does not equate to some luney lefties calling to split Arizona in half.
You're correct. It equates to some loony conservatives calling for Texas to split from the United States because they were unhappy with the current administration, which was elected honestly by the majority of Americans. So I suppose the only word that Redress left out was "loony", because that's exactly what those who supported such an endeavor are - a bunch of loons.
Don't know enough about Arizona to know if its even plausible in an extreme sort of way.
I can say it would absolutely not shock me if at some point Northern Virginia splits from the rest of Virginia. Either as its own state, or having D.C. encompass it and actually set up the district was its own legitimized state. But the sharp difference between Northern Virginia and the rest of the state is stark. I don't think its highly likely, but its one split that would not shock me in the least if it occurs.
If the libs want the southern half of Arizona, I say let 'em have it. Conservative AZ can pull back their support at the border and the Libs and drug cartels can have it out to see who gets it.
Btw, my money would be on the cartels, since the liberals would probably be against arming anyone... :2razz:
Actually, the rumblings for secession started before Obama's election. They were probably loudest after, but he wasn't the impetus.
It's based in the fact that Texas is the only state that has ever actually been its own country.
Plus, it has tons of land, oil, gas, coal, forest, a coast, the ability to grow all of its own food, and a host of military bases. And a high percentage of the U.S. military consists of Texans.
Texas is one state that really doesn't need the rest of the country. It gives a lot more than it gets from the other 49.
I guess I'll ask the obvious. Mr. V how does this action on the part of a few democrats in Tucson equate to the entire party? Bonus points if you don't use a generalization.
A few years back I read an article that said Texas would have the 8th largest GPD in the world if it were its own country. I'm sure things have changed since then, but I though it was interesting.
TX also has fantastic deer and hog hunting. It's based in the fact that Texas is the only state that has ever actually been its own country.

Ok, I say carve out a portion of the US that liberals want to occupy, and cut em loose....Let's see how long that lasts before they come sniveling back.
