Jo Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen, is in a critical condition after being shot and stabbed multiple times in her West Yorkshire constituency.Armed officers responded to the attack near a library in Birstall on Thursday afternoon, and a 52-year-old man was arrested in the area, police confirmed.
They added that the Labour politician had suffered “serious injuries and is in a critical condition”. She has been taken by helicopter to Leeds general infirmary.
Police also confirmed a man in his late 40s to early 50s nearby suffered slight injuries in the incident.
Witnesses said the attack was launched after the MP became involved in an altercation involving two men near her weekly advice surgery. A Labour source confirmed Cox was shot and stabbed after she had concluded the drop-in session for constituents at around 1pm.
Had expected this earlier tbh, considering some of the people involved with the leave campaign. Sad day indeed... very sad. Hope she pulls through.

Thoughts go out to her, her family, and her colleagues.
It is also being reported that the man who attacked her yelled, "Britain first!" which could indicate that he might of done this act in the name of a neo-fascist organization that shares the same name.
But none-the-less a senseless act of violence.
This is really sad. I don't know why people think that acting this way effects any change in their favor.
On a tangent... I think Britain would do better to stay in the EU but I'm curious as to what happens if they pull out. Scotland has said they'd break with Britain for independence and then opt to stay with the EU. A lot of change could be coming their way over there. We'll know starting next week.
MP's don't have security details?
Obviously, England is too dangerous not to.
No, it's about access to your local MP. Only senior MPs and govt ministers tend to have security details. Jo Cox was holding a surgery with her local constituents which is a standard part of our democracy here that they open their doors for one and all to air their grievances and disputes for politicians to deal with.

Looks like all that gun control didn't workout to well.
She was shot in the UK, where ownership of guns is extremely illegal. Some reports mention that the attacker had a home-made gun.
I guess the UK will have to double-ban guns now and make ownership of lathes, drill presses, stamping machines, and other machinery that could be used to make guns illegal. Yeah, that'll do it.

I'm pro gun ownership but couldn't you wait till the poor woman has been buried before making cheap points?
Handguns are illegal. Shotguns, rifles and antique guns are all legal. But well done on displaying your ignorance on UK gun laws.
What was she shot with?

OK, even though I don't much care to delve into gun topics but since you want to get all pointlessly political like this I'll play. What were all the people murdered in Orlando shot with... Legal or illegal weapons? Legal you say? Looks like a lack of gun control didn't workout too well.
Ok, I ll bite. It was a legal weapon.
BUT...how well did gun control work in this case and, what weapons were used in Aurora, Sandy Hook and San Bernadino? Legal, or illegal weapons.

Why her? Is she a particularly loud Remain supporter?
This is terrible on all levels.
This is the dumbest way to win a victory for your cause - it guarantees that it gets tied to violence and untrustworthiness.
How stupid and wrong.
Being reported that she has passed away

Lack of gun control apparently didn't work well if you want to go that route. Being that they were legally armed to the ****ing teeth.
