Kristi Putin: we're going to "liberate LA" from "burdensome leadership"

I certainly hope so. This is not the administration to **** around and find out with and those things come with hefty penalties.

🤣

I think it's adorable that you think anyone here should "fear" this administration, but I'm not surprised that you'd turn rat at the drop of a hat.

You guys (fascists) should be afraid of us (Americans).

I have to pause you right there, Phys251 if only on a semantic level. It's not the radical right. It's the entire American right. There are no MAGA Republicans vs. Traditional Republicans. There is not some sort of Catholic-Protestant schism within the Republican Party. It is over. They are a monoparty.

Yes, the radical right. The "moderate right" is all but gone.

Any anti-Trump conservatives and Republicans who remain are a sliver of a minority, and they still largely approve of what Donald Trump does because, well, they are politically on the right. If anything, the non-Trump supporting conservatives are the radical minority within the American right.

That, I agree with.

Great. But I am given to doubt that the millions of Spanish-speaking Angelenos were inspired by this man's words and lack-of-forceful demeanor.

I get that but I also am not sure that fiery theatrics are the answer either because that's just playing into the WWE tactics OF "the junta".
You already know what I'd like to see happening, I've said it half a dozen times: Blue state fiscal strike, no more federal contributions, starting now.
Trump is already engineering a cutoff anyway, so it's already time for California and other blue states to start preparing for life without federal monies.

The theatrics come when Trump suddenly realizes that only the red states he's been mistreating are going to foot the bill.

Let’s cut to the chase. For the record - are you advocating that people do sedition and insurrection? Or are you advocating that people do absolutely and unequivocally peaceful and lawful protest?
Jesus on a barbecue skewer, guy. I was suggesting that this Congress wasn't going to rise to the challenge any more than the Roman Senate did, with Sulla.

Noem seems to think she doesn't have to answer the legitimate questions of the American populace and their elected representatives.
Padilla is not the “American populace” and if he wants to ask questions in his official capacity then he can send a letter or make an appointment like everyone else. Hell, he could even use his position on multiple subcommittees to try to compel her testimony. Barging into a press conference and interrupting her remarks by screaming questions isn’t it.

Nonsense. Why would she not answer his questions publicly.

Maybe he already tried that approach? Not like these Trump sycophants are approachable.

All well and good plans, Checkerboard Strangler, but politics in open democracies is theater. And the Republicans are winning because they capitalize on every single issue they can, gin up outrage where none existed before, and rile up their base to go out and vote. They treat politics like theater and they win. Democrats treat public engagement like a chore (at least national Democrats), they do not gin up their base, they fight for nothing, they stand for nothing, and they keep losing, and their politicians are still sending my wife and I text messages pleading for donations.

Democrats need to copy their enemies in every way, with the sole exception being evil. They need to fight in the political arena for helping people with the same energy that Republicans fight to harm people. Arguing that Democratic politicians should continue acting with calm restraint is like those cavalry officers in 1916 who saw tanks for the first time and rolled their eyes saying "Pshaw, those hulks of metal plate belching diesel fumes and bristling with machine guns and cannons shall be a passing fad. The height of civilized combat has always been and shall always be the horse, sirrah!"

So she can be evasive and give non answers in a proceeding that no one would watch?

The entire administration- all politicans really- need their feet held to the fire very publicly.

They pushed the United States Senator from California out of the room. They're sending marines to LA and they pushed the Senator out of the room. They dragged the Senator to the ground and handcuffed him. I have never seen anything like this in my life. If a U.S. Senator from the state Noem is putting federal troops in against the governor's wishes wants to ask a question, he gets to ask a question.

This is intimidation. This is brown shirt fear mongering. This is against the 1st Amendment and the ideals of democratic government. This is illegal.

I'm outraged. OUTRAGED!

Then Noem starts threatening too remove the mayor and governor as if she can. Government by fiat is here. TACO's cabinet is unqualified, unrestrained, and unamerican. I fear for the republic.
This is 1930s Germany.

Yes he was. I saw the statement being spoken. The man looked and sounded like a beaten dog....
I watched it. He just got dogpiled by police. Of course he sounds shaken.

IMO it's completely unreasonable to trash him because he isn't acting as mad as you want.

He was dragged out, wrestled to the ground, handcuffed, and held there for some period of time.If this were a fact pattern in a criminal case, he'd have been 'in custody' during that period. He was in no way free to leave.
I'm not minimizing what happened. I'm simply pointing out that he wasn't detained.

His response?
Per above... He just got housed by police. Of course he's going to sound shaken. But he didn't say "we're giving up." He said he's going to keep at it, and that Angelinos should keep protesting peacefully.

Remember, violent protest just gives Dear Leader what he wants. Right?

Every time Democrats scold but nothing actually happens, Trump goes farther.
Oh, please. Trump keeps stepping over the line regardless of any reactions by any critics or opponents. If Padilla started shouting like Al Sharpton, it wouldn't change the administration's reaction even the tiniest bit.

If people can't pick a red line and stick to it, we won't have a democracy soon.
Okay. So what are the "people" supposed to do? Give Trump the violent insurrection he wants?

I daresay all blue state governors throwing a press conference to announce a federal money embargo is pretty damn theatrical, at least as a start.

Respectfully, no. It is not licit to withhold those monies. The corporate press would absolutely both-sides the moment. Trump would have legal pretext to declare a state of rebellion.

Noem had been speaking on California and Los Angeles leadership moments before Padilla was removed. "We're not going away," Noem said just before the disruption. "We are going to liberate the city from the burdensome leadership, mayor and governor."

Sounds like she/Trump is planning to overthrow the current state leadership.

Not even some of Trump's Congress Critter supporters will go for that.

I'm sorry, Visbek, but I care about preserving our democracy far more than I care about the feelings or granting fair consideration to any individual Democratic politicians, especially a corporate Democrat like Padilla. Padilla could have and should have taken a few hours or a night to recover and released a statement on Friday. This could have been a rallying cry for the Democratic base to rise up in outrage against an openly authoritarian administration. But he blew his chance, wasted his moment, and this outrageous conduct by Kristi Noem will be forgotten by Monday. Hell, it might not be remembered by tomorrow.
