Did you read the article?

He quoted scripture and said the government should follow scripture.

Frankly, as long as we follow the Protestant Work Ethic, the government's a hypocrite when it doesn't follow scripture all the way.

Are we a theocracy, or not?

We are not a theocracy and having a strong work ethic is not religion specific.
I really don't see the connection between the Protestant Work Ethic and the ravings of an insane religious wingnut.

I'm a taoist and in thirty years I went from being a dirt poor teenage kid washing dishes to put my self through culinary school,to becoming a master chef who owns several resturants.
I atribute my work ethic to my religious beliefs.

Thats the same ****ing thing as saying the government should kill gays and lesbians.

Anyways a crazy pastor saying something stupid about LGBT people isnt even surprising anymore.

Asia has plenty of work ethic ingrained in it as well, so I'm not surprised that you account for Taoism.

Regardless, America was founded on the Protestant Work Ethic, and as much as people bash on Judeo-Christian principle today, they still take pride in saying they deserve respect because they struggled and performed good works (thereby overcoming Total Depravity).

Work ethic itself is bogus. You don't deserve respect because you struggle. You deserve respect because you're a self-forming person.

If we're going to play the religious game though, then we might as well go all out.

Umm,isn't this topic about the ravings of a religious lunatic douchebag?
I still don't understand what the PWE has to do with the ravings of an insane hatefill preacher?

We should be discussing what anti-psychotic medicine he needs, not PWE.

I vote Halidol.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

Splitting hairs?

Religion is religion. If you take one part, but not the other, you're a hypocrite.

So people didn't have a work ethic before religion?

I'm not familiar with a moral work ethic preceding Protestantism in Western civilization.

If you'd like to prove it, go ahead. Otherwise, work ethic should just be interpreted as masochism and humiliation.

And I see by your avatar you are also a big Baldurs Gate II fan!

No religion is without its version of crazies and dickwits.

What the Kansas preacher said is that the Bible directs that all LGBT should be killed. What he really meant, however, was, "I'm a stone freak for water sports involving large Dalmatians and the choir director. But, hey, the Bible doesn't say anything about that. And, nobody but "Spot" and the choir director know about it anyway."

There's always a raving looney to be found in any crowd, if you go looking for one to shine the spotlight on.

The crazies come out in droves, it seems.

It's especially easy if your entire belief system is a bunch of looney nonsense. Nobody has to go looking for a crazy one, they're all competing to get in front of the spotlight.

Confucianism? That predates Christianity entirely.

Cephus, you'd be an okay guy if you could just exercise a smidge of self-restraint and MAYBE miss an occasional opportunity to insult all things religious.

There's no fun in that though, Gosh!

That is YOUR belief. There are many, many great examples of people from every religion who have contributed to the betterment of humanity because of their religious beliefs. I would submit to you that the Kansas preacher in the OP has his personal issues all twisted up with his religious beliefs. Most, the vast majority of, Christians and Baptists do not believe or agree with the position taken by the preacher in the OP. His "religious" views are not commonly held by a long stretch.

And the good Pastor said:

“Terrorists are dangerous, the economy is a real and present danger,” Pastor Curtis Knapp told his congregation on Sunday. “But there is simply nothing other than the holocaust of the unborn which imperils the safety of our country or places our people in jeopardy as does the leader of the Western world publicly raising his fist at the heavens and declaring that the bedrock institution of society, ordained of God and meant to be protected by the state, is little more than a convention of convenience with the children of Sodom to transform the meaning of something, which is precious to Jesus Christ, and a living picture of his love for the church into a legally protected justification for perversion and a vehicle of hatred aimed directly at that love.”

Amen Brother! Tell it like it is! H A L L E L U J A H!!!

Why are you shocked???

1) This is Kansas.... Have you been to Kansas? If they are not killing Gays, or Watching Government Kill Gays...then it comes to watching paint dry to shoot yourself in the head... it is about all the activity left to do in Kansas!

2) Have you seen the picture of the Pastor. If that dear homophobic face doesn't spell..."I have been the closeted regressed gay since my pre-teens and to compensate for all the sadness, lies and this pretense and facade that I surrounded myself with I have been poll trolling and smoking in my off-days like a stripper on crack in Taj Mahal!" Nothing in the universe can possibly will!
