Bestselling Canadian author and academic Jordan Peterson is undergoing rehabilitation from an addiction to the tranquiliser drug benzodiazepine, his family has said.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Mr Peterson's daughter Mikhaila said he has been suffering from a physical dependency on the drug for eight months, which he was prescribed for anxiety.
Mr Peterson initially went onto benzodiazepine when he had an "extremely severe autoimmune reaction to food", she said, with the dosage being raised after his wife was diagnosed with cancer.
Valium and Xanax are commonly known brands of benzodiazepine.
Author Jordan Peterson is recovering from severe tranquiliser addiction in Russia - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Jordan Peterson is a psychology professor at the University of Toronto, a widely cited scholar of personality, and the author of what’s currently the No. 1 best-selling nonfiction book on Amazon in the United States. The New York Times’s David Brooks, echoing George Mason University economist Tyler Cowen, calls him “the most influential public intellectual in the Western world right now.”
Jordan Peterson is also a right-wing internet celebrity who has claimed that feminists have “an unconscious wish for brutal male domination,” referred to developing nations as “pits of catastrophe” in a speech to a Dutch far-right group, and recently told a Times reporter that he supported “enforced monogamy.”
When Cathy Newman, a journalist for the UK’s Channel 4, challenged Peterson’s arguments in a televised interview, she received so many death threats that she had to get help from the police. “There were literally thousands of abusive tweets — it was a semi-organized campaign,” she recalled in an interview. “ It ranged from the usual ‘****, bitch, dumb blonde’ to ‘I’m going to find out where you live and execute you.’”

Some of you might ask, who is Jordan Peterson?
He wrote a book on how to be a man.
He also pitches a diet his daughter came up with, the "carnivore diet" where you eat 100% meat.
I like some of his work and hope he recovers.
Benzo addiction is said to have the worst withdrawal symptoms; a complete mental and physical cluster****.

Sounds right - pushing a diet his daughter came up with. I'm sure an all meat diet is nutritionally just great. After all if it worked in a sample population of n=1, his daughter, surely it works for the rest of the population! Where can I sign up for his newsletter?
What a daughter-abusing pro-rape scumbag. It's no wonder where his support comes from.

He's a quack. Hope he gets the help he needs to beat addiction. Just shows addiction knows no lines, race, class, or creed.
It's not even entirely clear this was a basic addiction. It's been noted that he had a paradoxical reaction to a benzodiazepine, which while it might be easy to assume that since this is coming from his daughter who is seeking to protect her dad's reputation, the explanation does seem plausible, because most people who have merely developed a diazepam/lorazepam/clonazepam/alprazolam habit do not end up in near-death experiences needing to be put into a medically induced coma for over a week. That is an extreme reaction.

He writes self help books that did nothing to stop him from falling prey to the same vices he tries to distance people from. Nothing he talks about helped him stop fiending late at night.
For any other self help guru, addiction would be a career killer but Jordan leads a cult of self important cubicle dwellers and pseudo intellectuals.
I wish him a good recovery and maybe the realization he's not as enlightened as he wishes he was.

He writes self help books? He wrote an insightful book, one you've obviously never read, called "12 Rules for Life" and is well worth the read.He writes self help books that did nothing to stop him from falling prey to the same vices he tries to distance people from. None of these critics have read the book. Likely info they picked up from the Internet. They used to say the same thing about ALAN WATTS....he drinks too much, he likes drugs....nothing he has to say could possibly matter.
Luckily I knew better.

Never read either book, never read anything else he has written, and never spent so much as 45 seconds honestly trying to understand him (A reference to the Brad Pitt speech at the Oscars).

I don't care for your idols. I only care about their downfall.
You got me. I wouldn't spend money buying books on how to live better from a guy dependent on some Russian outfit to fix his addiction problems.

Nicely illustrating the cruelty of the modern American Left.
