Jesus Gave the Apostles Authority to Forgive Sins

This verse states that faith is necessary, but doesn't state that it's sufficient. Otherwise why does Jesus say that those who call Him Lord will still be damned?

Faith is sufficient. But plenty of people will call the Lord's name but their hearts and lives are not truly faithful. If you are not truly dead to the world, you are not truly faithful.

John 20:23 did not give authority to Christians to forgive sins. John MaCarthur explained it well. "Jesus was saying that the believer can boldly declare the certainty of a sinner's forgiveness by the Father by the work of His Son if that sinner has repented and believed the Gospel. The believer, with certainty, can also tell those who do not respond to the message of God's forgiveness through faith in Christ that their sins, as a result, are not forgiven."

It is sufficient? Faith doesn't actually perfect us, though. Faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love.

Nonsense. Jesus plainly says "whose sins YOU FORGIVE." This is eisegesis meant to defend a position, not discover the truth of the text. The early Church read this quite differently.

The Church.

Citation? (And I'll admit in advance this is a trick question as the whole thing at the time was under Roman control and even driven by their interests.)

The Catholic Church is a good example of if you can't beat them, join them.

Why does that matter? The books in the New Testament don't tell the truth about God anyway.

No, it's a good example of, if you can't beat them, beat them off.

Lol. So your theory is that Julian controlled the Church?

You've confused the Bible with the thoroughly repugnant Talmud.

Until the adoption of the Christian religion yet many groups were persecuted by the Romans..

The Romans adopted/made up their own brand of the Christian religion...false doctrines and all...

And you think it was ADOPTED under Constantine? Do you even know who Julian is?

I don't...8 1/2 million don't...duh...
Jehovah's Witnesses are a sect that was completely made up in the 1870's by Charles Taze Russell to enrich himself. It's complete fabrication is evidenced by botching predictions for armageddon multiple times.

The apostles misjudged a lot of things, also...for example, they thought Jesus had come to rescue them from man's dominance right then and there...but they got the doctrines right, so have we...

When apostates began splintering off from the true faith of the early Christians...it began happening even before all the apostles passed away...
