Indeed. The contrast with the way the GOP took their 2020 defeat on the chin couldn’t be starker.Exactly. Instead of self reflection, they are doubling down on what led them to lose voters in every demographic. A part of me wants them to keep doing that as they will either reamin lost in the woods or go the way of the Whig party.
Nice try, however the real split in the GOP was during the 2016 campaign. RINOs vs populist conservatives tired of the good ole boy establishment. The republicans were not united and gave Trump minimal support. Fast forward to the 2024 race and the republicans are more united then I have seen since the Ronald Reagan era. The RINOs have been mostly dispersed and the few remaining have been minimalized.Indeed. The contrast with the way the GOP took their 2020 defeat on the chin couldn’t be starker.
The lesson I see for Democrats is that if you spend your entire campaign deriding right of center, and center, voters as "Ma and Pa Kettle"; at some point "Ma and Pa" are going to vote for the candidate You hate the most, while saying "Greenglasses, Kiss our Asses!"Someone smarter than Bill Maher would probably look at how the Dems performed in the down ballot races and consider the actual lesson to learn from the election.
Is that you Letsgobrandon? Love the name change. We must talk again about how you’re an Independent.Nice try, however the real split in the GOP was during the 2016 campaign. I'm not a Trumper or a Republican.I agree, but I don't care if the Dems win, I am just stating the truth. I thought trumpers liked a person who "tells it like it is", like trump...............right???
Yep, running on republicants are icky, so vote for me instead didn’t work.
Exactly. Instead of self reflection, they are doubling down on what led them to lose voters in every demographic. A part of me wants them to keep doing that as they will either reamin lost in the woods or go the way of the Whig party.
One and the same. I left the picture in the profile so everyone would know.Is that you Letsgobrandon?
And an independent I am. Have not been a republican since 1989. Ofcourse that does not mean I do not vote for conservatives.Love the name change. We must talk again about how you’re an Independent.
They seem to have it pretty much together now.Anyway, the GOP took a beating in 2018 and 2020 and their red wave become a trickle in 2022.
So your plan is for the democrats to just sit, wait, and hope for the GOP to fail? It would be far more intelligent to reflect and try to work out why your party lost voters at a significant level in every demographic. Think about why you lost the working class and you are now bleeding minority voters. Trump tapped into an ongoing populist movement that started in 2010. Ultimately by 2024 the republican party bought in. Meanwhile the democrats are still stuck in the Clinton era.n impressive win this time no doubt. But nothing to suggest the Dems need to do anything but wait for the coming Republican shitshow and recession which are inevitable as the tides.
Part of the issue is the number of different (and often opposing) opinions about why the Democrats lost.Warning: Mayer uses the F-word in his commentary.
"It's amazing how an election loss, even as big as this one, still doesn't put a dent in the thinking that lost it."
Bill Mayer, with a very sarcastic tone and lots of hyperbole, nailed why the Democrats lost the election. If they don't change, they keep losing. Isn't this what some of us have been saying to those who continue to double down in the defense of their team? He does not defend Trump or his supporters, just to be clear. He's telling the Democrats to stop digging their holes and learn from their mistakes. The entire party has become nothing but a Portlandia sketch. Take one week to ask what you did wrong.
Starting here.Well said. The Dems should embark on a period of self-reflection much like the Republican Party did after losing the house in 2018 and then the presidency and senate in 2020.
If you’ve voted Republican the whole time since 1989, you’re not an independent. One and the same. I left the picture in the profile so everyone would know.

lol what?Starting here.
Acting like a vicious mob taking pride in driving off any poster even the tiniest step to the right of Mao isn't cutting it.

Is it my imagination, or has Bill Maur made a reversal in his attitudes? I thought he was a far left idiot some years ago. He now gets it.Warning: Mayer uses the F-word in his commentary.

no----he still thinks Trump is garbage, and he thinks those who voted for him are dumb----he says it in the video at the start......Is it my imagination, or has Bill Maur made a reversal in his attitudes? I thought he was a far left idiot some years ago. He now gets it.
Have you followed anything he did long ago? Look at my words, don't try to read in them what I did not say.no----he still thinks Trump is garbage, and he thinks those who voted for him are dumb----he says it in the video at the start......
Translation--you have nothing to actually offer voters that might swing them to your side. You just hope they come to hate the other side more.Is that you Letsgobrandon? Love the name change. We must talk again about how you’re an Independent.

No one fell for itThat might mean something if Harris hadn't explicitly pivoted towards the center for her campaign.
I am not affiliated with any political party. That makes me an independent. There are conservative independents, librul independents, and centrist. We do not all think alike all the time. Your party lost the independents this time around. If you’ve voted Republican the whole time since 1989, you’re not an independent.
It sounds like it's absolutely your plan. Sit back and hope for the GOP to fail and implode. Unfortunately for you, the last time the republicans have been this united, they held onto the White House for 12 years.Anyway, I wouldn’t say it’s my plan. I don’t have any say in what the Democratic Party does. I just don’t think a root and branch overhaul is what the party either needs or will do. They took a beating in this election, if happens. 2-4 years of a Republican shitshow will see the Dems exactly where the Republicans are now.
I am really not concerned with the popular vote. Only libruls are obsessed with it as these days they have no real confidence they can consistently win in the arena of ideas nationwide. They prefer that densely populated areas like Los Angeles and New York call the shots for everyone. They are afraid of the electoral college maps showing alot more red then blue.Let’s not forget the popular vote went your way for only the second time this century. Republicans were full of this piss and vinegar in 2004. They’ve only won 2 general elections since then.

1. MAGA flag slogan of no substance."Why Kamala Lost"?
- First, conservatives and moderates took their country back
- Middle class economics mattered
- Issues, not identity defined the choice
- The politics of demonization failed
- Celebrity endorsements were worthless
- Men are back, particularly young men
- The mainstream media became irrelevant
- President Joe Biden should never have run.
Agreed. That Donald is corrupt/anti-intellectual/a pathological liar/beginning a slide into cognitive decline is news to no one. Clearly basing the majority of a campaign on stating the obvious to voters didn't work. The Democrats, as Maher pointed out, need to focus their message on why people should vote for them, and not just against Donald.Translation--you have nothing to actually offer voters that might swing them to your side. You just hope they come to hate the other side more.
