It's amazing how an election loss, even as big as this one, still doesn't put a dent in the thinking that lost it.

Bill Mayer, with a very sarcastic tone and lots of hyperbole, nailed why the Democrats lost the election. If they don't change, they keep losing. Isn't this what some of us have been saying to those who continue to double down in the defense of their team? He does not defend Trump or his supporters, just to be clear. He's telling the Democrats to stop digging their holes and learn from their mistakes. The entire party has become nothing but a Portlandia sketch. Take one week to ask what you did wrong.

As someone once said, Repubs should worry about their own self.

Agreed. That Donald is corrupt/anti-intellectual/a pathological liar/beginning a slide into cognitive decline is news to no one. Clearly basing the majority of a campaign on stating the obvious to voters didn't work. The Democrats, as Maher pointed out, need to focus their message on why people should vote for them, and not just against Donald.
Too bad Trump wont be running again

I certainly hope the clueless Dems do not change their self-destructive line of thinking. Please don't feed these points below to the Democrat leadership. I want them to remain clueless and grounded in the failed way of thinking.

Losing propositions include:
  • Diversity, Inclusion, Equity,
  • identity politics,
  • Open borders,
  • kowtowing to teachers unions,
  • sanctuary cities,
  • supporting a federal pro abortion law,
  • universal health care,
  • prohibitively expensive climate change programs,
  • support for children transgender treatments,
  • increasing the size of the federal government,
  • anti-gun policies,
  • dumping Joe Biden for Kamala,
  • taking the Hispanic and Black vote for granted

Thats what the thread is about. Maybe focus on that rather than some silly whataboutisms.
No, the thread is about people mansplaining about how they think Democrats should behave.

And my observation about the thread topic is that anyone who voted for Trump should worry about their own selves.

Enjoy the last word.

That arrogant bullshit is EXACTLY why Republicans have been winning. You can't even countenance the idea that you may have something wrong.

Trump made inroads into Black voters, Hispanic voters, and working-class voters---core Democratic constituencies. You better think this through, you don't even understand what is going on.

No, the thread is about Bill Mahers take on why the dems lost. But you dont want to take a critical look at your own party or ideology.

The problem isn't the Democratic message, the problem is that over 40% of eligible voters don't even go to the polls. It's a participation problem. Why do so many people think their vote doesn't matter? That's what we need to figure out.
The other problem is our campaign finance system that puts the power of the messaging in the hands of a few.

Trump supporters telling Democrats how to behave is the arrogant bullshit. The Democrats are not the problem.

You simply cannot entertain the thought that what you believe was rejected by the public. Its gotta be easier to think that others are the problem and not you.

Then why the loss?

Lost the executive, congress, and judicial.
LOL, I love how you guys cut off part of my comment and then scold about something explained in the rest of the comment.

Sheesh. And you wonder why nobody takes Trump supporter's complaints about Dems seriously.

Enjoy the last word.

Have you followed anything he did long ago? Look at my words, don't try to read in them what I did not say.

I specified I used to see him as a far left idiot.

I said now he understands. He is not advocating extreme views like i saw before.

I still do not agree with his positions, but now I see hope to respect him.
Yes---he has matured and changed with time, as most people do. He might have business/rating reasons to do so.....

The Dem's message was received loud and clear.
It simply wasn't what the electorate wanted, nor trusted.

You complain about eligible voters not going to the polls. In reality that's on par with the usual voter turn out.

Do you really think that the majority of that 40% who didn't would have voter Dem?
What's your foundation for this assertion?

Great piece.

It's who I did NOT support. I and many republicans, REAL Republicans, would never support Trump. He is not fit to lead, as history has demonstrated...
As a REAL conservative, I voted for him because he was the clear choice, and held the closest conservative positions of any President since Reagan.
I respect anyone that won't vote for a candidate because they have something against them. I refused to vote for Chris Christie for a second term. I felt that his paling around with Obama helped get him elected and do more damage to the country.
But, Trump got 76 million votes. Real Republicans voted for him in droves, it's the RINO's that did not vote for him, so you are wrong about that.

trump is ranked last among all presidents by experts, and I concur. Trump is unstable and unfit for office. Historically he is a disaster. He is a criminal, sex offender, a man who tried to reverse an election and supported that Jan.6 horror, and the list goes on...............no good republican would vote for him. Trumpers would, but not Republicans, including Reagan. Character and solid national ;leadership matters, and Trump is a terrible leader and an even worse person to be in the WH...................good grief.....
