I believe that we are more likely to decline to a state where we would not really be anything close to what we are now before a civil war. It is possible, just not likely (before such a point). Of course, by that point, whether we cared or not, or how many sides there were or their reasons would likely be very different than what we think of causing them now.

On many political discussion sites there are those who boast that they are prepared for another Civil War.

Don't know how that would look, something like the invasion of the Capital? Where they took selfies of themselves so the FBI could easily find them?

Or would it be more organized, like local militias, and how would they stack up against the military? Of course, some might believe that the military would back local militias or that the National Guard would back them.

BUT most importantly, I often wonder, would those advocating or seeking another Civil War actually join in, or is it just hot air from the comfort of their computer desk or laptop or cellphone?

Is another Civil War possible?

civil war?

not a chance

what would the two sides even be?
the majority of Americans like myself with NORMAL views left, right and center and those that want fascism?
they'd lose before any type of real war started and america would win

The democrats will not have enough guns and they will declare it unfair and they are the winners and the government will give each of them a trophy and a check for $2,000. The losers will return home and just keep doing as they please and pay no attention to the democrats.

The losers that just waged a literal civil war in your fantasy because the Democrats beat them in elections are the same losers that pay no attention to Democrats?

You think liberals/Democrats don't own guns?

Only if the right wants one.

Unless you fetishize guns, do you REALLY own one?

Yes. I own firearms. I also own hammers of varying types; ball peen, claw, dead blow, etc. I'm just not weird about it. I don't hold up my maul and proclaim "From my cold, dead hands!" or such nonsense.

Yeah, guns are cool, but like everything, people can become weird about them.

There is at least one gun for every adult in my household. We all have gone through the classes for concealed carry (it is over a 6 month wait here in our state though to get it). There's no fetish. It is a matter of protection for "just in case". And a civil war would be one of those things, even if unlikely.

It won't take a civil war to remove the socialists...just political victories.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if a reckless few shot up Antifa while they're rioting, looting, burning and destroying public and private property. Doubt it would go any further than that.

Not likely. Most people are wimps when you get down to it. Ask them to wear a mask? They cry. Shortage of toilet paper? They cry. Eat healthy? They cry. Imagining a nation that can’t rein in its soda consumption somehow dealing with the scarcity, pain and sacrifice that comes with a Civil War? Not a chance.

I really hope not as the number of dead in such a disaster would make the covid crisis look like nothing.
It would also split millions of families apart and cause damage on an epic scale.

Let's hope it never happens.

I voted highly probable.

It'll last 1 week. And all the proud boys/oath keepers/libertarian fringe groups will get shot or give up. The national guard will tell jokes about it for years after.

Anything is possible, but there so many snowflakes today that it’s highly unlikely.
people tend to become peaceful when there are snowflakes

Already in one, a cold one thus far.

your assuming police, national guard and the military won't put a stop to you, and I bet if it did happen, you would be watching it from your basement.

The right is comprised of the small dicked blowhards. No worries about their self aggrandizing remarks.
Pat them on the head like you do a child and smile.

I hope and believe that the United States will remain united. If states want to leave the Union, I think they should be allowed to. There is no overriding moral issue as important as ending slavery that would justify preserving the United States violently.

I can see a division that would consist of states remaining in the Union, and what I will call "the Restored Confederacy." The Restored Confederacy would include the former Confederate states minus Virginia, and several middle west and mountain states. The United States would include Virginia to Maine, the west coast plus Nevada, and several mountain and middle west states. Hawaii would stay with the Union. Alaska would secede.

The United States would have the best universities and the most successful corporations. There would be a brain drain from the Restored Confederacy to the United States. Every year most of the most intelligent high school graduates in the Restored Confederacy would travel to the United States for university education. After graduation they would get a well paying job with a successful corporation like Microsoft. Every now and then they would return to the Restored Confederacy for high school reunions and family reunions. They would stay long enough to remember why they left, and return to the United States.

If suddenly... call me... we will come, we will help, we will tell, we will show.

Sadly, multiple votes are not allowed else I'd choose 6 and 7.
