I don't think that as a group the Tea Party is racist.
However, I do think that they have a lot of racists as members. I also think that one reason why some Teabaggers oppose Obama is purely out of racist reasons.
But, as a whole, no, I don't think the Tea Party as an organization is racist.
I just typed it into google, and thats the first thing that came up. to show prejudice for or against (someone or something) unfairly.
But the TP doesn't favor whites over blacks. Black conservatives are just as welcome as white conservatives. On the other hand, many liberals call black conservatives all kinds of names.
Yes, you said they are racially biased. They are not. Do they like that so few blacks are conservative? Do they prefer the black votes go to dems?
Do they not welcome black conservative candidates? It's not the fault of the tea party that most blacks are democrats. Conservatives don't pander to people because of race. In my opinion that makes them less racist, not more than than the democratic party.
So birthers are necessarily racist now?
There's nothing can be said or done against our black president Obama that is not racist.
That's why we should not allow black people to be president. They are free to break our laws without fear of reprimand or repercussions.
People are just not ready for it yet. They still keep thinking blacks are inferior and need their help. We need to wait till they think a black is no different before this country is ready for a black president. If he breaks laws it will be accepted as relevant.
None of my definitions have unfair in it, but it's not important.
Either way, bias doesn't require active discrimination, bigotry or racism. Everybody has biases and not everybody actively discriminates, is bigoted or is racist.
so when someone says the TP has racial bias, they might mean it in a good way.
It has nothing to do with who they welcome. It's about who primarily constitutes the group - white, decently well off people.
Nobody is saying that they aren't welcoming black people. The comment is about the reality of their constitution and the types of people it does and does not include.
please show me where i said or implied that. hint: i didn't...at all.
Certainly. Perhaps I mispoke. I meant to say that they are primarily a white movement but I don't think they are racist.
I didn't suggest it. I explicitly said it. I'm glad we agree. What did you mean by the bolded? Weren't you suggesting that not all biases are bad? That I agree with.
However if you are suggesting that everyone has a bias (in a bad way) toward blacks but just don't actively discriminate, you are dead wrong and I feel sorry for you.
Great, I don't think you understand the word biased or insult.I'm sorry, but to say the TP is racially biased, and then try to cover it up by suggesting that isn't an insult..... is insulting to all TP members, black and white.
Thank you. I'll stop my rant on it on as soon as theplaydrive stops defending the statement.
So birthers are necessarily racist now?
Either that, or very stupid, as I said. A case could certainly be made for birthers being very stupid as well. Those are the only two choices for someone that denies Obama was born in Hawaii.
Is it your contention birthers are very stupid as opposed to being racist?
Not any stupider than the truthers.
You are being sarcastic right?
In regards to the Tea Party and racism, one has to recognize a dichotomy at work here: One one hand we have a group, a sincere group albeit the sincerity is united by fear, primarily due to the GOP machine and FOX news, and on the other hand, we have minorities in America that have been terrorized by racism, so the proper conclusion is: Although there may be some merit to this movement there also needs to be some responsibility to the larger picture of America's ugly racist past. In other words, you just can't organize demonstrations comprised of white America and not expect some criticism???
Also, there needs to be a dialogue sooner or later, an intellectual exchange in other words that embraces a broader narrative and for the sake of a better word...maybe multi-culturalism??? Since we don't see ant attempts at this, we can only conclude that fear, racism and ignorance are very prevalent in this movement. This...this notion of "don't tread on me". Well how about, let's tread together as a collective to work on the issues.
Allegations of Tea Party racism made by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, as well as George Soros’ organizations such as Media Matters, have been contested by black members of the Tea Party movement. Onnindan Online writes, “Black members of the movement say it is not inherently racist.”
Claims that Tea Partiers used racial slurs against congressmen prior to the healthcare vote have also been contested by black conservatives. Onnindan Online adds, “Some question the reported slurs. ‘You would think — something that offensive — you would think someone got video of it.’”
Unfortunately, black members of the Tea Party movement have to contend with cries of treason from their communities. In April, Fox News reported, “They’ve been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values.”
David Webb, organizer of New York City’s Tea Party 365, Inc., states, “I’ve gotten the statement, ‘How can you not support the brother?’”
Despite the criticism, Scott is proud of his involvement in the conservative moment, declaring, “I am more of a conservative than I am a Republican.”
Recognizing the importance of the presence of black conservatives in Congress, the Patriot Political Action Committee unveiled Operation Black Storm, a national coalition to unite the nation behind the black conservative congressional candidates in key districts around the country.
K. Carl Smith, president of the Conservative Messenger, explained of the coalition, “We want to reignite America’s passion for liberty and create an atmosphere for political dialogue where conservative candidates can engage in conversation about the issues without being accused or racism or called Uncle Toms.”
He adds, “It’s finally time for our nation to get past racial barriers in politics, and with Operation Black Storm we intend to send a message to Washington that — above all — Americans of all backgrounds, colors, and decent faiths want their God-given right for SELF-RULE.”
Barb dear: saying "well, others are stupid too" is a pretty poor defense.
Sorry, I'm not going to flat out call birthers stupid. (suppose it turns out they're right?):lamo
I used to get so angry at my ex for spending too much on the lottery. However, I kept my feelings to myself. ( suppose he won?)
