I am asking this of my American brethren. I don't have to worry whether it's too late to save my country. (cue a few snide remarks I am sure).

But is it too late to save the United States?

Exactly what are we in need of saving it from? Kind of need something specific.. Economic collapse? Civil War? Righties? Lefties? Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Or is this just a you guys are ****** up poll?

Leftists say America will loose it's democracy if the Right wins.
Righties say American needs to be made great again, implying of course, that it isn't great now.
Both sides predicting civil war.

Simply interpret the thread any way you want. The mantra I keep hearing is "America is doomed." So, is it? Whether economically, or through violence, you chose.

OR............. you could whine about the wording. Your choice.

yes, wrap it in plastic and stick it in a fridge. That should save it for at least tomorrow.

You don't know because you're a con. The rest of us know it's the cons who will bring this country down to the shitter.

The last time we had a civil war it was over a cultural/human rights clash that had huge economic implications. Now we are dealing with a cultural clash between two groups that are not directly tied to a major macro-econ position and less as far as geographic location, ie the minor threats of secession is not tied to a solid block. Unfortunately the same players are involved, holding to liberal vs conservative ideology. Not even the ideologic differences are focused on a single point, the right are just against nearly anything that the left wants to move forward on, and more generally have become a party that wants to move away from the concept of a country of laws and towards the cult of personality.

History is replete with civilizations that have collapsed, we aren't special, this could all come tumbling down, it doesn't really take much more that the widespread destruction of trust between individuals. When you have a significant segment of the population rejecting the very thing that makes the entire enterprise hold together, when is the tipping point?

Personally I think that like other species that have lived on this Earth, ours will end up as a thin layer of sedimentary rock, with a few hints of what we were. I think we are not much more than monkeys with keys and we will ultimately destroy ourselves.

we tend to think that our nation is doomed because someone or some group does not believe and live the same as we do......look at our history.....we have always been this way.....we cannot be a free nation without the warts and boils and stupidity that comes with that freedom.......and thank God we are so......it makes us Americans .....it solidifies our Constitution....it ain't pretty and often times downright sickening.....but as long as we have that Constitution we will survive and prosper.......maybe one day a generation will come along that act like adults and change us................naaaaahhhhh

history tells us that the eternal struggle between conservatism and liberalism is ultimately won by liberalism......the sad thing is when liberals remove the tyrants and fascists and kings and dictators they always allow them the freedom to regroup and come back........the cancer of democracy

People oddly seem to prefer having decently funded public services and a social safety net for those that need it.

It's a country that somehow manages to enjoy baseball.

Enough said.
I was sitting at a bar in Havana a number of years ago and the Brits next to me where trying to figure out the NFL game that was on.

I explained the rules to them and I'm pretty sure they thought I was just messing with them.

Save it from what? It's doing fine?

No serious person is predicting civil war. Log off Twitter and touch grass. Americans aren't going to fight a civil war.

Economically, America has the lowest unemployment in our history.

Through violence? America had an uptick in crime over the past 7 or 8 years, but it's hardly at all-time highs. It's hardly a civilization-destroying crisis.

People need to chill.

I believe this poll is very presumptuous.

Don't be so sure. I think you need to worry about your country being annexed in 30-50 years when global warming is in full swing and really starting the F things up down south.

The best indication that America is doomed is that half the country is convinced the other half is killing the country, and both sides refuse to entertain the possibility that this is by design and it is the government that keeps the citizenry divided and blaming each other for the country's problems when those problems are, in fact, caused by the government. This way the government can do what it really wants, which is to transfer the wealth from the people to the government and those who benefit the government, AKA the elite. The fact that the government is so successful in convincing the people that the government is good and fighting for them and it is the people that are the problem means it is too late to save. The only thing left to do now is let the elite exploit the country until the last bit of capital has been extracted and they move on. Then the people can start over and hopefully will understand to never again repeat the same mistake, again. Note that America fought the revolutionary war to rid itself of an exploitative government and should have known better to not repeat the same mistake, but the people have evidently not learned anything in history class except for "white man bad." Just another example of by design for Manufacturing Consent.

It’s not too late.

As I’ve stated, over and over, none if this is new. We;vecseen it all before.

All we have to do to avoid the same results as before is not to do the same things. Just stop. That’s all it takes.

Take the time to learn the history. See what it says about what we did that caused this set of results and don’t do that again.

If one knows history the choices to repeat it to gain good results achieved before or not not repeat it to avoid bad results becomes much easier.

Who is this person and why should anyone care what she thinks?

I thought about rebutting some of her more obviously-unhinged takes, like America being a theocracy. But then I realized she didn't even provide a single example of what she was talking about, so there's nothing to rebut. Just "Christians = Nazis, amirite?"

Again, people like this need to log off Twitter and touch grass. America isn't going to collapse into a civil war because she doesn't get any legally-mandated PTO from work.

When you can't go to school, a mall, a church, or a nightclub without fear of being shot, when your Capitol is attacked (which typically ONLY happens in 3rd world countries) and when supporters of a politician vow violence if he is charged with a crime, you have one sick country. To me, this is like telling a smoker whose fingers has gone yellow and is coughing all the time that he might die of cancer if he continues saying "don't worry, I'll be fine."

Take the time to learn the history.
People don't any more. With the internet and with Rightwing outlets, people are into "tabloid" news, and misinformation. The idea of picking up a history book is too alien to them.
