Considering that "liberal" and "conservative" has been so wildly perverted in meaning, there really is little to talk about without further misrepresentation. There was a time when this was easier to define in our education system. Grade school text books have always been simple in their providing of facts. Dates. Event. Names. Etc. The actual contextual thought behind those facts come later at Universities. The Cold War provides a great example of this:

- Liberal writers tended to err on the side of perspectives, which tended to present America as only motivated by economic self-interest in a global economic game. And there was a bottom-up effort (common man view).

- Conservative writers tended to err on the side of America the great, squaring off against an evil communist empire, in a righteous crusade to champion freedom and democracy. Typically top-down.

The best writers (Historians) focused on evidential facts that showed truth in both. In some cases there was a right/left lean, but this is not the same as choosing to err on one or the other.

But America is changed. "Conservative" thought in America, while still hailing from a place of traditional racism, has become purely synonymous with "right-wing." This is the fault of Republicans, who have spent years defining and politicizing absolutely every thought as "conservative." All political agenda has been pushed as "conservatism." But there is nothing conservative about looking at child obesity rates in their own children and choosing to argue for pizza in school cafeterias. Nothing conservative about shoving Noah's Ark into the history books, or celebrating the death of a teenage girl who couldn't get her unwanted pregnancy dealt with. Nothing conservative about denying environmental or health science. Nothing conservative about embracing conspiracy theories like a Birther movement or Qanon. Somewhere along the way, the Party's needs to win against Democrats came to represent "conservatism." And because conservatives have done this to themselves, they default to creating a false polarization in America that groups liberalism, liberal, leftist, and Democrat as the same thing. Doesn't matter at all to them that liberals and Democrats are also gun owners and capitalists too. They get chastised for simply not being of the Party. Ask the so-called "rinos" how that feels.

They have even managed to pervert their own religion over this, while pushing their religion! How much more liberal can you get than Jesus Christ? Yet, they have been groomed to hate "libs" and anything they stand for. Liberals show an agenda to care for the poor and tolerate differences, today's conservatives would rather reject, persecute, and lock up because "socialism equals communism." It is a “conservative”, hugely financed - red as red gets - highly influential legislative think tank that literally is an unelected source for much of the “conservative” legislation taking place. Thank you. There is always that risk. A big part of leftist indoctrination is for people to stop associating with friends and family if they are not in the woke cult. I know at least one poster here on DP who has cut himself off from his family. It's very sad.

But I've talked to my daughter and assured her that she will be accepted and loved no matter what her views are. Family first. It's how I was raised. My father was a dyed in the wool hippie back in the sixties, but the idea that politics should take precedence over family would have been unthinkable to him.
