Is a majority non-White America, a good or bad thing?

The majority of babies born in the USA are now non-White.

This means that in a 50 years or so, the USA will have a majority population that is not White.

#1. Is this even true? Many Hispanics, which are the largest minority group in the USA, are indeed white or at least resemble Italians, Spaniards, Greeks, Yugoslavs, etc.

#2. And if it is true...is this a bad thing? Will this change America in a significant way?
 
1. Possibly. I will say people have been predicting that for quite a while. But it will probably happen eventually if for no other reason other than inter-breeding between races.

2. Things always change significantly over time. I don't think it's a "bad" or "good" thing. It simply is what it is. And I frankly don't understand why some people get so upset about it.
 
It doesn't really matter. Democratic traditions make America what is in, not skin color.
 
For white people? Honestly? It's a bad thing. We are going to pay for all the ****ed up **** we have done the past few years.

Speak for yourself. I have done some ****ed up ****, but not in the name of race. Your post implies there will be a sort of vengeance carried out, and that it will be just.

Unless the new majority does away with the constitution, we'll probably be okay.

that makes little or no difference, Thunder - we can pick and choose what group we want to be 'them' at will. For centuries, British not only saw Irish as a separate 'race' but often as a separate species, though recent DNA test show little or no difference.

sure, it will make a difference. Los Angeles, Ca. is different from Otumwah, Ia. largely because L.A. is a swirling mixture of ethnic groups, representative of virtually the entire planet. Just in terms of religion... narrowing it further, to christianity and further to Catholicism/Orthodox, the differences are mind boggling... Irish who believe in the Daoine Sidhe, Central Americans who retain Maya ritual, Haitians who incorporate VooDoo and north Africans and withcraft create a 'christian' culture unknown in other parts of the country.

But all these folks came to America for much the same reasons... money first (lets not kid ourselves) and the freedom an open culture allows. I walk down the boulevard near my home which is largely Oaxacan and see the stars and stripes flying from window ledges, pasted on from doors, attached to car antennas. These folks are Americans.

yes, we will change. We changed as the essentially Anglo America became Anglo/Irish/Italian/German/Russian/Polish/Jewish/Christian/Islamic/Hindu/Buddhist/Shinto (yeah, really!) etc etc, place that we are. We incorporated those folks as Americans and let Americans define what America IS. we are not a lesser folk for not being British and we will not be a lesser folk for not being all Euro, either.

Shouldn't matter. If we notice that minorities are runing the country, we'll just migrate and start over fresh. We'd take all goodwill with us. It's not like Mexico 2.0 would keep it.

...So you believe America is a white nation? This is the point. At some point they won't be "minorities," and in fact there probably won't be distinct races at all.
 
The one thing that worries me about it, is how many of these children are going to grow up assimilated to American culture and our traditions of liberty, self-reliance and the rule of law.
 
I believe, in general, it is a white nation...and to be honest, I'd like to keep it that way. If Mexico was such a paradise, they wouldn't be risking everything just to leave.

Basically it's like pouring mud into a glass of pure water. Eventually even the best of water will be diluted and useless.

Its not a matter of race, per se... but of culture, values and norms, and how many illegal immigrants we now have who are not assimiliating into mainstream American culture.

Uh. Well, at least you're honest.

But I fail to see what skin color has to do with ones political and governmental beliefs. Surely you won't attempt to say there are no non-white people in this country who believe in America ideals and have done some great work.

I hope that's true, but where La Raza is concerned, I do not believe it is. They are about reclamation, not assimiliation.

Which is why it is important to control the rate of immigration and ensure that immigration is done from a variety of regions, and not from a specific cultural area


Overall for societal stability when immigration is involved, if a country is going to have significant immigration, it should be controlled

A few points to control

1. Ensure a diverse immigration pattern, taking in immigrants from a different cultural groups is better then taking in a significant number from one cultural group
2. Ensure the country will still have a dominant cultural group. Even if the dominate cultural group is a minority, as long it is by far the largest cultural group, the struggle for cultural dominace will generally not occur.
3. Try to ensure that immigration occurs to a wide geographical region rather then into specific geographical regions, this can be done through specific immigration support programs
4. Provide low cost language and employement training programs.

Allowing for significant immigration of singular cultural groups into a narrow geographic region most likely will cause societal problems especially if done over a short period of time.

The US and Canada have traditionally have had good immigration policies, the US with its large illegal immigration issue is leading to societal problems, for a variety of issues outside of the illegal aspect of the immigration
 
If it causes white conservatives to attempt to hold political power by disenfranchising people of color using crap like this "only net taxpayers should be able to vote" nonsense, it could be very very very bad for all of us. I suspect the white entrenched right will not give up without a fight - a very dirty and possibly bloody fight.

you're talking like Hispanic Americans do not assimilate into American culture, society, politics, morals....one darn bit.

50 years from now, all Hispanic-Americans will be speaking broken English, be day-laborers, and have no college degree.

This is what you seem to be suggesting.
 
I have no problem with it.

I do have a problem with the values of our culture being lost into the mist of history. I believe the two are distinct but possibly related.

Hispanic-Americans are diverse amongst themselves. They argue even on what "hispanic" means, and whether it is their proper descriptor.
 
So long as the character of the nation does not differ, I see no reason to stand atop a box and cry "doom" like Pat Buchanon.
