What was the cause of the debacle?

The coders that created the app were ex-coal miners.

I heard Nevada had planned on using this APP but have changed their minds.

DNC machinations.

I think it was deliberate in order to fluff their corporate approved candidate. I think they have lost complete faith in Biden making it over the finish line and, the donors are in a panic that Bernie is going to run away with it. Can't let him take Iowa and solidify his front-runner status. Oh, no!

Think it is delaying the inevitable, however. Buttigieg is going to get his clock cleaned elsewhere. It was a nice trick though. Insulting to the voters. But, a nice trick. Have to admit I didn't see it coming.

Good to see we've got those pesky election problems solved. Now on to the primaries. I'm sure we can trust the results.

It's the corruption of incompetent people constantly failing upward into various positions within the Democratic party.

I have a hard time calling it a debacle. It was far from ideal, but to me, as long as the results end up being right, it is not a debacle. We saw not long ago that it is certainly possible to get the results wrong, and that is a debacle.

What was the cause of the debacle?

Incompetence induced by rule changes put into place for the 2020 primary...which Sanders wanted!

But it's still a problem for the Iowa Democratic party. Good reason for them to stop going first every four years.

What was the cause of the debacle?
At the moment it looks like corruption and incompetence.

Dem establishment friends and family founded a company to provide election services the elected members of their friends and family could hire for use by the democratic party.

Founded, built, and implemented by and for incompetents, who failed to train the caucus captains in it's use, there was no ****ing way that app would work correctly.

I say it reaches the threshold for a debacle. There were no results election night. Pete declares victory anyway. The next day we wait all day for 62% of the results to come out. And headlines are being ran picturing Pete the winner. We don't even have all of the results but, the news media effectively called it for Pete. When do we get the rest? Tomorrow? Next week?

Iowa is ritualistic. The delegate count is less important. Iowa sets the stage for primary season. And you get a round of press coverage on caucus night with all the talking heads hemming and hawing over the winners and losers. But, that didn't happen and as such, any crucial aspect that Iowa may have represented before Tuesday has been wiped away.

I tend to agree, inside the club shenanigans in order to make Iowa insignificant because their candidates were going to take a beating there.

What was the cause of the debacle?

I voted for incompetence. There is a report that precinct chairs did not enter the correct password to access the app.

What was the cause of the debacle?

Total incompetence -

1. Not beta testing the app before rolling it out to production (software 101!)
2. Encouraging caucus chairs to download the app to their unsecured phones (security breech 101).

A first year IT student could have done a better job. **** Iowa and their irresponsible, arrogant asses.

I voted for incompetence. If it was corruption, Pete Buttigieg would have blown out Bernie Sanders in every precinct that reported. Now there is a report that precinct chairs did not enter the correct password to access the app.

would be too obvious, the subtlety of a con is vital

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.

I like the saying, however in American politics its usually both incompetence and malice. Lets face it, our pollical class is absolutely filled some of the most dumbest and evil people in our country. Politics is like **** to flies for these morons.

What was the cause of the debacle?

To paraphrase a talking head.... they did great with pencils and paper for years, then the tech weenies come along and “helped”.

It should make you worry about the electronic, hand held education your kids are getting.

Incompetence wrought via antiquation.

It is almost certainly the product of rank nepotism; the same sort that systemically plagues consultant and contractor selection among the DNC. In otherwords, people exploiting their influential connections within the party to sell it overpriced and deficient products and services; in this sense it is corruption that enables incompetence.

What was the cause of the debacle?

Modern American business culture. The trend these days to spend far more on marketing, consultants, product managers and so on, than on IT engineers.

It is that simple, and it certainly isn't limited to political parties, you see this in businesses across America. More than anything, it is why GDP growth has been so anemic now for over a decade.

During the 2012 republican caucus... Iowa waited 12 days before coming up with a tally...and with 8 precincts not reporting at all. It was mess then too.. to this day the final tally is still unknown...

However quaint the caucus system is...it's outdated and needs to replaced with a primary. Nor is Iowa a good representation of the country and shouldn't be the first state to set the tone for election...imo.

Its over......but it sure looks like DNC Murder so far......THE DNC SUCKS ASS!

Trying to Coronate the loser Hillary, that horrible no good go away please Hillary, had to be the last straw....
