Here is what I gleaned from watching CNN in the last 20 minutes:

Apparently there were TWO parts to the briefings given last week.
The second known to only 10 people. Pres/Pres-elect: the 8 Congressional leaders.
This second was beyond the well known Russian Influence hacking of the Democatic party.
But has now breaking out into the open.

Apparently the Russians Claim:
1. The they have Compromising info on Trump personally and financially.
(I joked/intimated about 'Kremlin Hilton Trysts' and 'Russian Loans' a few days ago)
2. There were ongoing contacts between the Trump campaign/surrogates and the Russians.​

These are said to be very reliable but Uncorroborated as of yet.
The FBI will neither confirm nor deny they are investigating. IOW, they are.
This could explain Trump's refusal to condemn the Russian Hacks, indeed he bizarrely asked for more out loud.

WASHINGTON, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Classified documents presented last week to Donald Trump included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising information about the president-elect, CNN reported on Tuesday.

The allegations were in a two-page synopsis that was appended to a report presented by U.S. intelligence officials to Trump and President Barack Obama on Russian interference in the 2016 election, CNN said, citing multiple U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the briefings.

The allegations came, in part, from memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative, whose past work U.S. intelligence officials consider credible, CNN said.

It doesn't really matter either way. The U.S. polity has been so compromised by hyperpartisans that even if the information is true, it will just be downplayed as a plot to oust the right-wing.

I'm guessing the left won't have a problem with this even though they just spent two months talking about it when it was happening to Clinton.

Some dickwad Democratic lawmaker here in NH is introducing a bill to prevent the import and sale of Russian vodka in our state liquor stores. There go my excellent Bloody Marys.

It sounds less like a sincere invitation and more like a poorly thought out attempt at a joke. Of course, his communications advisor didn't help matters by trying to reframe it this way:



“To be clear, Mr. Trump did not call on, or invite, Russia or anyone else to hack Hillary Clinton’s e-mails today,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “Trump was clearly saying that if Russia or others have Clinton’s 33,000 illegally deleted emails, they should share them.”
 
I think you're missing the point.
These requests were/May have also been made privately in a Coordinated effort.
Russian Hackers had their way with Our election, and may 'own' our new President.

"Have" and "release" are two different things. I suspect that if true, they hold it until they think releasing it is beneficial to them, which may be never.

It's like using 'bird shot' in a shotgun. If you can't hit what you're aiming for, then anything close will do.

I am guessing you are wrong. I consider Russian hacking to be a major issue, not for who was hacked, but that it happened. I also believe that we have to make strong efforts to discourage such activities. Thanks for trying to make what should be nonpartisan into something partisan. Shows what is more important to you...

I don't see anything in the source about private requests by the Trump team to specifically hack Hillary's emails or anything like that.


The angle seems to be that they had damaging info on both Trump and Clinton, but only chose to release the stuff damaging to Clinton. Whether they were doing it for their own purposes or had an explicit agreement with the Trump team is not settled in the least, and there's a vast gap between the two.

As much as I despise Trump, I have a hard time believing he really would literally ask the Russian to hack us to benefit himself. If that's not treason it's not all that far off. Remember, he loves his image more than himself, and I seriously doubt he'd calculate the risk would be worth it. Could be wrong, but I'm not making a massive assumption like that.



At any rate, we have little to do until this is fully investigated. And we really should know by now to wait for a complete investigation to make an assessment with such large ramifications.

It's Spycraft 101: Have something on a politicians or people on the inside and you've got an Ace in the hole.

I.e. they have something that could not only remove Trump as CIC but put him in prison for the rest of his life, and then he will do whatever the Russians want.

I have no doubt that is what they are up to.

And if I didn't know any better it looks like he's surrounded himself with at least one Russian sympathizer. Perhaps he was pressured to?
