Four Palestinian militants have died in a clash
with Israeli soldiers along the Israel-Gaza border, medics
and officials in the Hamas-run Strip say.

Up to 10 Palestinian gunmen tried to cross the heavily
fortified border into Israel, Palestinian officials said.

The Israeli military says troops opened fire after being
shot at by the gunmen.

It is one of the most serious outbreaks of violence
between Israel and militants from Gaza since the end of a
three-week conflict in January.

The clash is reported to have taken place close to the
Karni and Nahal Oz crossings in the north-east of the Gaza
Strip.

Reuters news agency quoted a Hamas radio station as
saying that 10 Palestinian militants - some on horseback -
attempted to cross the border under cover of early-
morning fog.

No Israeli casualties have been reported.

Gaza has been relatively quiet since Israel's three-week
offensive against Hamas ended on 18 January.

But sporadic violence along the border continues.

From what I've heard they tried to launch some kind of a massive attack on the border.
They used suicide bombing horses for ****'s sake... What's next? Launching camels tied to rockets?
I hope the horses can now enjoy their promised 72 virgins.

Edit: Now it's been reported that they may have tried to kidnap an Israeli soldier. They've brought trucks with them.

That terrorist attacks and attempted terrorist attacks are continuing reflects the reality that Gaza's terrorists have yet to accept the reality of Israel's existence. Rocket attacks from Gaza have been reduced on account of deterrence established by Israel's regular retaliation for rocket attacks.

IMO, Israel will need to retaliate for today's attempted major terrorist attack. Otherwise, Gaza's terrorists could come to believe that such attacks bring no consequences and one could then witness an increase in such attacks.

I'm still having it hard to realize that they used a suicide-bombing horse.
That's just too cruel, even for hateful al-Qaeda terrorists.

I suspect it may have been an attempt by Hamas to respond to the recent killing of Abdul Majid Dudeen on the West Bank that and/or maybe timed to send a message to Obama after his recent speech. I suspect the former more then the latter.
 
As far as I know, it was al-Qaeda, not Hamas.
