How would you rate Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention ?

Day 1 is basically irrelevant. No one pays attention to Day 1, so many of the speakers are people they'd rather not hear from, but feel obligated to have there (e.g. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Kathy Hochul).

Your comments range....from the sublime to the ridiculous. Its a wild ride.

They decided to have this at a stupid time at night so I didn't watch it.
They should schedule it better for a UK audience.

I didn't tune in.

So I voted Neutral in the Poll!

I am catching up on sound bites from the event on Morning Joe audio this AM.

What I am hearing is pretty good, it appears the 'Kamabla' energy is real, palpable, and only growing.

I will do a little bit of my gauging of how it went from how bent the opposition party gets about the event.

Win or loose come November 5th I think this 'Kamabla' movement is a shot in the arm that a catatonic Democrat Party needed.

We need to pay respect to the old guard, President Biden, et al, but we have to go younger and fresher.

One thing I have noticed from the pre selected soundbites of the DNC event on Morning Joe compared to all the pre selected RNC soundbites I was hearing from all over the media spectrum is that the speechifying at the DNC has been upbeat, America loving, optimistic, with a positivity that is infectious.

Seems to me, just seeing the new life in the Democrat Party since President Joe stepped down is a new embrace in America and Americanism with an embrace in Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, while I listened to the recent Trump Vance rally messages and Trump's alleged "press conferences" and the contrast is GLARING.

Trump's campaign is NEGATIVE his messaging is NEGATIVE, listen to his words, and now Vance's messaging is NEGATIVE, their guests at the RNC Convention were NEGATIVE, and now Trump who was falsely claiming some of Kamala's crowds were AI generated, he has campaign ads trying to give him praise that are blatantly and obviously AI generated, that level of hypocrisy from the top of the party is NEGATIVE.

They have NOTHING and he know's it and they know it.

I don't agree with any of this. The 4-day event is cumulative. The fence sitters will make their decision on the composite of what's said.
Indeed, and it's energizing the base! People who were going to sit this out are no longer doing so!! It will make a palpable difference in November!

I watched some snippets of Hillary, Jill, AOC, and all of Joe's. I don't get goosebumps anymore during partisan or patriotic speeches. I have heard too many. But I still know when something works and when it doesn't and most of this worked. I think it was a good first nite. I'd rate it a 'B'
I could agree with a 'B+' if it was in a vacuum. But it's not. It's happening side by side with the fear and hate mongering of the republican party. Looking at it in that context, it scores an A++.

Well, it's all over the tube, you can watch it at anytime. I caught some of it after the fact as well and I live here. :)

I agree, it was grade A++

If you have an interest, you can watch all 5 hours of it at C-SPAN's website. You'll have the luxury of fast forwarding pass what you prefer not to watch.

Hillary spoke.

She lied of course.

"Y'know what? - It STILL takes a village to raise a family, heal a country, and win a campaign!"

Hillary never said that. In 2016, She floated the Marxist idea that it takes a village to RAISE A CHILD.

However responsible adults know this is nonsense. It takes intelligent and devoted parents to raise a child.

The left LOATHES intelligent and devoted parents.

What the hell...

I'm not even sure what prompted this response. Where did you get these ideas from?

All I've ever seen from you is vapid crap like this.

If you were capable of posting an intelligent argument, then you would do so.

Instead, you post this crap. It's pretty obvious why you won't post an intelligent argument.

You seem upset. Need a Snickers?

All-in-all the convention seemed to go well. It’s pretty much what you would expect from day 1. You got your initial speakers that nobody pays attention to and then you have your day 1 headline, which helps set the tone.

Nooooo, my friend. I don’t think there were “initial speakers that nobody pays attention to” last night. There were some really powerful speeches last night.

Fain, Kerr, AOC, Rev Warnock, Rep Crockett, Hillary, Biden, etc etc etc.

Hell of a first night, and no Hulk Hogan.

It was all rather par for the course. I was a bit saddened to see them still trotting out Biden, and that they kept him there all day to legitimize the political theater. His speech was super cringe.

Besides that, even though I know the DNC is mainly for riling the base, I still didn't really extract anything new or profound from the Dem platform. It was all fairly cookie cutter. I don't think Harris would make a particularly good President. What little off the cuff conversations I've seen of her, she is pretty clueless. She's already had 4 years to try and implement much of what her handlers are now promising going forward. Yes I know she was VP and not POTUS, but nonetheless she had a great deal of power so I find her current promises kind of hollow.

And then there's Trump...

I still feel there are no really good options. I'll either be voting independent or not at all, at this point.

AOC said Kamala Harris was busy hammering a peace deal with Hamas and Israel.

Amazing, Kamala has the time to do that and campaign simultaneously.

Many things (like those with details) are best left to let ‘staff’ handle. ;)

I admit, I went to bed around 9.

Day 1 is over and I haven't seen anything of it, because it started at 1am here and ended at 6am.

Those who have seen it, how was it ?

I heard the Bidens and Hillary Clinton spoke.

It was much better than I expected. Speeches ranged from decent to excellent. Even Biden's speech was very good. Also, one of my favorite Americana artists, Jason Isbell, played a song. No complaints, really.

The left likes group control and doesn't like free thinkers. If you look at Kamala Harris and Tim Walz you would see marxist in them and that's what their vision of America is. Price controls, come on man , that's a recipe for ruining the economy. Of course both of them are far far left, (marxist and socialist) and a temporary pause of their true selves during the next few months will not prevent their true selves from ruining the nation if elected.

I started out skeptical and not quite understanding where they were going. Thought it too long, could have skipped a few speakers, though Andy Beshear was short changed......but all in all very good with some very powerful speakers. Loved AOC, Clinton, Warnock, Raskin, Jill and Ashley were great and Biden hit it out of the park! Now let's move forward!!!

The phrase is an African proverb that predates Marx and is completely unrelated to any political philosophy.
Except when the left adopts it as their own. Hillary's "It takes a village" is a declaratonn of how they think. We tell you how to raise a child, and if you don't like it we'll take your child from you. Abortion and cut and paste, and chemicals pumped into children is the left's idea of how to help children.

According to MAGA, like JD Vance, it absolutely takes more than "intelligent and devoted parents". He has said it takes a grandmother too. And if it only takes parents, why would they need to put any religious references in schools? The right also doesn't care about "intelligent" parents. They really don't care about "devoted" parents either since many rightwing men barely spend time with their children. Do you really believe Trump is an "intelligent and devoted parent"?
