Republicans constantly pushing “The Border” is them doing what they do best; which is create controversy, and guide the outrage that runs through the conservative base.

I think it is a dog whistle to racists. Not saying everyone who feels the border is a top issue is a racist. But, rather yammering on about “The Border” reassures and animates the racists in the GOP.

I think the conversation could be better spent around issues that matter more like climate, healthcare, campaign finance, and our fiscal policy.

So, I’m going to vote Little Space. Even though I know Republicans will never stop talking about it because it’s something they can use to drive the news cycle.

We have a genuine problem at the border and ignoring it isn't helping.

How much space should “The Border” take up in national political conversation?

8/100ths of the national political conversation, in fractions, or 0.08 if you prefer decimals.

Schumer just gave a speech about how we need to give 11 million people who are here illegally a path to citizenship because apparently Americans aren't popping out enough kids. So who's giving the issue too much "space?"

What issues do you think are more important than immigration/the border to which Republicans are giving less attention?

I'm going with option 5.
As an aside, I am opposed to any reporters ever lobbing softball questions.

Because if they're lobbing softballs, they ain't doing the job I think they should be.

Perhaps you all might consider reporting regularly on border-related issues when border news stories come up. Issues like illegal migration, human trafficking, exploitation of illegal/undocumented migrants, deaths of migrants, smuggling of drugs, corruption or misconduct at the borders by border authorities, security threats of porous frontiers, how border issues impact local border communities, how dangerous US foreign policy contributes to mass migration in the Americas, things like that. That might eventually force both parties to finally sit down and come up with a sensible, humane and effective immigration and border policy. Pie in the sky? I hope not.

Cheers and be well.
Evilroddy.

Every ounce of national discourse about the border should be about how it is literally a manufactured crisis. Open up the damn border, let people on through.

Imagine calling yourself pro freedom and pro markets and calling for massive restrictions on the movement of labor for crossing an imaginary goddamn line.

The only sensible, humane, and effective border policy is rejecting all border restrictions and return to what we had at the Founding of the republic.

And not that this excuse was ever a valid argument but you're not gonna bitch about "they're terking er jerbs" in a tight labor market.

At the “Founding,” they had it easy. One either had to navigate the Atlantic or come through miles and miles of wilderness to get to the United States.

At the founding of the republic we had no federal income tax, entitlement or “safety net” programs. If we desire to have many millions of folks who don‘t speak, read or write English or have a HS or better eduction then we can create them while saving some money on our K-12 system.

Little to no space. It's very obvious that "the border" and illegal immigration is just a rallying cry for both parties and neither one is actually interested in changing the status quo. And the media plays right along.

To even try to assert that the current surge of ‘undocumented’ border crossings is the “status quo” is ridiculous.

The kids just don't care, and they are about to dominate the electorate. Thank the jotnar for that.

Dems are doing what dems do. Ignore the situatio. Close their eyes an it will magically go away. So fentanyl and other drugs are pouring in and gangbangers and other criminals are coming in and we don’t know who these people are. Just close the eyes, ignore the problem and it will go away. Kommie Harris was appointed border czar and never been to the border. Been all over the world, just not to the border. Bunch of self righteous hypocrites

I listed 4 of them in my OP

I don't agree that Republicans are dedicating less of their time to those issues than they are to immigration. The fact that you disagree with their positions doesn't mean they're not spending time on them.

Paying attention to the border ina reasoned way is fine. It’s a complex issue that needs discussing.

Bit not on the dog whistle call GOP leaders want.

I think it’s warranted to talk about border security and realistic solutions like increasing size and funding of immigration courts to process those more quickly so we don’t lose them inside of the border, better equipment/training/pay/hiring/benefits for those agencies involved with border security…things that two bills that were killed by Trump and the GOP because there was no wall funding.

But a reasoned discussion. Not any talk of fear and hinging security on a wall which Trump continued the practice of eminent domain to try to complete with.

Yeah, I don't care and neither do either of the political parties in the US.

That may not be far from the truth, but to try to assert that the recent ‘surge’ is not a recent development is BS.
