How do you identify a Russian troll

I do not think DP is under attack by hundreds of paid Russian trolls, or even dozens, or even A DOZEN.
But, that said, do I think there are a handful? Yes, most definitely, and they are committed to this place, they have found a temporary home here, and I daresay that their experience here is of benefit and value to outfits like

Интернет-исследовательское агентство

"Internet Research Agency, 55 Savushkina St. St. Petersburg, RU"

The Internet Research Agency (IRA - the infamous Russian troll factory) on 55 Savushkina Ulitsa in St. Petersburg, Russia has changed its name to Glavset. It has the same business manager as the defunct IRA, and he is the former regional police chief in St. Petersburg. The owner of IRA/Glavset is Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Putin crony. He spent nine years in prison in the 1980s for fraud and robbery. After prison, Prigozhin went into the catering business and was chosen to cater special/state events at the Kremlin and amassed a small fortune. In 2010, Prigozhin's companies won a contract for the supply of food for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in 2011 - to supply food to Moscow schools, in 2012 - military supplies, in 2014 - cleaning of military institutions, in 2015 - maintenance of housing and communal services for military towns and new construction for the Ministry of Defense, and in 2016 - repair of the Ministry of Defense facilities. He owns many buildings on Savushkina Ulitsa in St. Petersburg's Olgina neighborhood. IRA/Glavset advertises for Russian English speakers at hh.ru. Today there are about 1,000 employees that troll in shifts. They have a daily quota and the best are paid the equivalent of $960 a month which is a fairly decent salary in Russia. Prigozhin was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department in December of 2016 for providing financial support for Russia's military occupation of Ukraine. Two of his companies, including his catering business, were also sanctioned by Treasury in 2017.

So, we know that Russian has maintained a sustained campaign of sewing divisions between groups in the U.S. by posting on social media. I think it's quite evident we have at least a few here on DP.

Here are some of my ideas on IDing a Russian troll.
- Starts a thread with all sorts of name calling to provoke a response (e.g. Libtard), especially if it's one of their first posts in the forum.

Obviously not an usual behavior on both sides of the argument on online forums.

- Occasionally has poor English skills

Because everybody can spell correctly, especially if they're on mobile.

- Opinions often convey extreme racism, xenophobia, and homophobia

Because your definition of said items is obviously the correct one.

- Avatars and Usernames are often overtly patriotic

Because no American, especially conservative, are proud of their country.

- Dismissal of sources without providing counter sources. Often resorts to ad hominem attacks.

What are your thoughts?
Obviously as niether side EVER dismisses sources and resort to ad hominem. EVER.

"You're a Russian" is the new "You're a Nazi"?

:lamo

Either you still havent read the Op or you are still lacking a sense of humor. Unless it is both comrade?

You just described the Trumpkins. Most of them aren't even Russian.

I tried to look it up on Google earth the other day, and it wasn't there. The numbers weren't sequential, and 55 was one of the missing ones.

Twitter troll handles often have a string of numbers after the name.

No, it's the new "You're a Russian".
"You're a Nazi" is the new "You're a Nazi" but one could just as easily say "Alt-Right" or "Friend of Pepe the Frog" if you like. ;)

My own house is "one of the missing ones" on Google.
In fact, Google can't even get my street right, because it's a cul de sac consisting of 250 feet of road with the same name as the larger MAIN street that runs alongside it, so it can't find any of the three houses on my street.
Instead, it thinks I am on the next street over.

Either you still havent read the Op or you are still lacking a sense of humor. Unless it is both comrade?

So, this is you all's knew insult? "Yooze-uh-Russian"?

First, we're nazis, then we're racists, now we're Russians. What's it like with all those booger bears coming to git you? :lamo

I think you misread. I said earlier that I think there may be, at most, a tiny handful of Russian trolls on DP, not even a dozen, maybe not even a half dozen.
But if you spend any time in any Facebook Groups devoted to liberal politicians, like say for instance, Bernie Sanders, you might notice a coordinated and organized campaign going on. It was certainly evident during the runup to the election and Facebook admitted as such. So your argument, if you even have one, might be with Facebook.

Also, why would you think there is some kind of a sequence (first we're (A) then we're (B), etc)?
I don't think you have enough experience to be a racist, other than what you were taught growing up, but some of your views align quite nicely with German National Socialism. (which in case you didn't know, isn't socialist except in name only, just as North Korea is "democratic" in name only)

Yeah, you blew it with your dick-pics, dude.

That's one of the most intelligent arguments I've ever seen a Liberal make...lol!

Are you STILL wondering why the people of The United States rejected your party?

See you in November, then we'll see if the "people of The United States" is rejecting our party.
We'll be putting a nice muzzle on Mitch and a very short leash on Herr Trump.

JUST FOR STARTERS.

We've been hearing that for 8 years, now, so...we'll see.

What are your thoughts?

I have a pretty simple procedure:

Step 1: Realize that this whole Russia troll thing is exaggerated fear mongering.
Step 2: Move on with the reality that the division is 99% self-inflicted instead of trying to make excuses for it by blaming someone else.

Your brethren at the New York Times will probably even give you a 95% chance of winning, just like in 2016. Let's see how successful your brethren at the ADL were of convincing the public that a cartoon frog is a threat to American liberty. And how well your brethren at CNN did their job at recreating McCarthyism. :D

Come on. Do you really think that there's a difference?
Like I said, what do you want anyone to do about it? Tell them that they aren't allowed to hold a convention? You're just sidestepping the discussion more and more.

How much money do you think we'd be giving to Israel if they weren't basically our biggest lobby?

Probably the exact same amount.

Yea, kind of a broad-based start. I'm hoping others can provide more specific criteria.

You open one up. If there is another one just like it inside, then you open that one. If again there is another one inside then they are Russian trolls. There you are, as specific as you could wish.

Let me share my one experience with someone i KNOW was a Russian troll on another site.

User name was feminine, very polite and congenial.
Got you involved in a few PMs.
Then BOOM!
My regular email address was hit with about seven spam emails all in the Russian language.
Coincidence? No.
Once you send them a PM they have a way of getting your real email address.

I cashed in my chips and left that site immediately.
