By now every driver knows the drill: The price of gasoline ratchets up, there's an outcry among motorists who feel gouged at the pump and then things settle down as the higher price becomes the new normal.Well, AAA has come up with a sobering statistic: the average price of gasoline will surpass $3 per gallon Tuesday for the 1,000th consecutive day. That's never happened before, the motoring organization says.
In case you're wondering, the current streak began on Dec. 23, 2010. Today, the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.52, according to AAA's daily price tracking service. That's a nickel a gallon less than the average so far this year. And unless there's another recession, AAA forecasts that a price floor of $3 a gallon is basically here to stay.
Gas prices set record: 1,000 days above $3 a gallon
"The new normal" eh? Who says this has to be? Obama? Look, his policies are hurting the middle, and poor. Why should we continue to take this without making him account for it? I am tired of not having enough money to even go out to dinner anymore. All because Obama wants to break the system.
Keep going progressives, send yourselves into political obscurity for another 100 years. :2wave:
Right, because we should hold Obama accountable for OPEC right?
No, but we can hold him accountable for instituting policies, and regulations here in this country that have contributed to the rise in the price of gas.
Right because we could have $0.75 gallon gas if only we drilled baby drill
Funny, when Bush was president and gas prices soared, it wasn't his fault according to most conservatives. Now that gas is over $3 a gallon, it becomes Obama's fault according to you.
Funny, but when Bush was president and gas prices soared, it was his fault according to non-conservatives. Now that gas is over $3 a gallon, it's not Obama's fault, according to you.

In fairness, gas prices soared during Bush's presidency and have been fairly level during Obama's. Throw in the fact Bush's ties with oil companies, and it's not hard to see why people would blame Bush.Funny, but when Bush was president and gas prices soared, it was his fault according to non-conservatives. If we did expand drilling on federal lands, it would take care of the trade deficit. Sell while the price is high, boost reserves when its low.
So then you blame Bush for the gas prices when they skyrocketed to right?
Gas went up when Bush was pres because most of his terms were an economic boom period. Contrast that to the current high gas prices in the worst economy since the great depression and you see what Obama's anti fossil fuel policies get you.

And yet, with the stock market reaching record highs on a regular basis, gas still isn't as expensive as it was at its highest under Bush.Gas went up when Bush was pres because most of his terms were an economic boom period. Even if this were true, and it's not, we SHOULD be putting more resources in alternative energy, particularly renewable energy.Obama wants gas prices to go up. He wanted it to be gradual, but definitely wanted them to go up. He wants dependence on alternative energy that isn't equal to oil yet. He has the power to put in measures that would lower gas prices, but stubbornly chooses not to. Why? Because he has special interests he wants to keep happy rather than doing what is good for the American people.

Get off the partisan nonsense.

Gas prices are not going to go down, at least not until alternative energy becomes more available and more widely used. Also keep in mind, gas prices went up under Bush, not Obama.
The part where Obama wants gas prices to go up and the part where he has the unilateral power to push gas prices down. Please do tell what part of what I said was not true.
Presidents do not have control over a globally priced and traded commodity.
Period.
And the fact of the matter is gas prices in most of the Western world are alot higher than in the United States.
Gas prices are at historic highs all over the place and it's not the fault of Obama or his policies, it's not the fault of Bush or his policies...
Video snipped
So you're excusing the partisan hacks on blaming Obama because partisan hacks blamed Bush. Got it. Now, how does that solve anything again? Oh yeah, I forgot you don't care about that, just blame Obama.

I'm not saying it was Bush's fault. I think there were several factors which pushed gas prices higher and I'm not sure how much control a president really has over international oil prices. What I am saying is it makes much more sense to criticize Bush when gas prices rose over $3 a gallon (at its height) than it does to criticize Obama, who has seen gas prices remain roughly the same price throughout his presidency (excluding the time period when our country was reeling from the recession).
No, he's just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy in your post.So you're excusing the partisan hacks on blaming Obama because partisan hacks blamed Bush. Got it. Now, how does that solve anything again? Oh yeah, I forgot you don't care about that, just blame Obama.
The magic number seemed to be about $3.80/gallon, at that point people started to change their driving habits. Much of the new normal is due to tax increases on motor fuel, as vehicle MPG rises, that revenue stream falls.
