Four women will graduate this week from the Marine Corps’ enlisted infantry training course, Marine Corps Times has learned.
Their successful completion of the program, confirmed Monday by a Marine official with knowledge of ongoing efforts to determine what additional ground combat jobs should open to women, is a historic milestone, one that would suggest at least some female Marines posses both the physical strength and acumen to keep pace with their male counterparts on the battlefield. A graduation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Camp Geiger, N.C.

Props to them for accomplishing that, but I still hold the belief that America isn't ready to see dead female G.I.s on the covers of newspapers.

4 out of 13 female Marines made it through the SOI and that's an accomplishment ? I suppose liberals consider a 60% washout rate an accomplishment ?

I consider it a waste of tax payers money. Just more government waste being spent on liberal social engineering.

Women have been killed in combat for the last decade now, its nothing new and people don't really care.

While I have to admit I have yet to wrap my head around the whole women in combat thing, I have to ask, what's the washout rate ate BUDS? Is that a liberal waste of government money as well?

Well the Obama administration did try to dumb down BUD's if you remember.

Their argument was in the name of political correctness that the SEAL's were to white. Something to do with that they wanted Navy SEAL's to look like the black seals you see in the ocean.

The reason why you see so few blacks serving in SEAL Teams is because blacks are not strong swimmers, many can't even swim. The Obama administration wanted the Navy to allow non-swimmers to join the SEAL's.

Navy SEALs are too white and don't resemble real seals. Seriously ?

Obama and the social engineering activist lost that one.

Congratulations to these soldiers on their success. I just hope that at some point in the future it does not come out that their training requirements were different than those of their male counterparts. I will never be convinced that women belong in any combat oriented military occupation, and definitely not in combat, but that's for another time and place.

well, I guess it's "historic" because they are the first females to pass SOI... but , being honest here, it's not that big of an accomplishment.
it's not easy, but it's not very hard either.

back in my day, non-infantry MOS's went to ICT for 2 weeks.... after my first enlistment, I went infantry and they sent my dumb ass back to ICT for 6 weeks.... current SOI is 29 days.
(SOI and ICT are the same thing, btw.. just different names for different eras).... the 2 week course was a breeze.. the 6 week course wasn't a ball buster, but it was tougher than the 2 week course.

BRC, Scrout sniper school, BUDS... those are ballbusters.... anyone , male or female, who passes those course has an accomplishment on their belts.

You really have to ask an instructor down at Coronado, not someone who completed BUDS or someone who served with a SEAL team. Just like a Marine who completed boot camp really has know idea why they did what they did and why Marine Drill Instructors do what they do. Marine Corps basic training is just not to get you in physical shape but to stress you out weeding out those who wouldn't be able to perform on the battlefield.

I've talked to and personally known more than a few former SEAL's. The BUDS physical challenge, if you can make it through Marine Corps boot camp and you're a strong swimmer, can handle the elements mostly being exposed to cold water for hours on end, you'll pass the physical challenges. It's the other BS that is used to stress you out weeding out those who in combat might give up or can't think under physical and mental stress. Is it a waste of taxpayers money ? NO.

If a Marine wants to be a Marine sniper, if he only qualified during boot camp as a rifle marksman or sharpshooter. He's not going to be allowed to go through sniper training. Only those who qualified a rifle experts can apply for sniper school.

The SEAL's use to be UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) Now they go beyond the beach today than 45 years ago. If you can't swim, you can't apply for BUDS. The Navy doesn't teach you how to swim while attending BUDS. A sailor had his chance to learn how to swim while in basic training. Allowing non-swimmers to attend BUDS a waste of taxpayers money.

There's your answer but I don't talk for the Navy's SEAL's. I have no right to talk for Navy BUDS instructors.

The facts are a couple of years ago the Obama administration said that the SEAL's were to white. In the name of diversity the Obama administration wanted to use the Navy SEAL's for social engineering experimentation.

The Navy explained the reason there were so few black SEAL's was because so few blacks are strong swimmers. The Obama administration said why don't you teach them how to become strong swimmers during BUDS ? The Navy said we gave them a shot while they were going through Navy boot camp. Navy won that battle against liberal social engineering.

While the article says they were held to the same standards I have to wonder how true that is. The military has a history of dumbing down the standards in order to accommodate women.

For example, during the 12½-mile march, all students were required to haul almost 90-pounds of combat gear. The women assigned to Delta Company also were required to perform pull-ups — not a flexed-arm hang — during their Physical Fitness Test.

The story keeps changing. It was originally reported that there were 15 female Marines who started out in the training company. Now it's been confirmed it was 17 females.

All dropped out or failed except four. Thirteen out of seventeen is an extremely high attrition rate.

Now we find out only three female Marines will be graduating. The fourth couldn't take her final physical fitness test because of a stress fracture.

This was one of the reasons why females were kept out of infantry training. Females are are more prone to stress fractures (feet, legs) than males. No one is saying how many of the other thirteen females had to drop out because of stress fractures.

Stress fractures aren't just a female thing, young male adults who weren't physically active when growing up are prone to stress factors. It has increased during army and Marine basic training over the past couple of decades because little boys are sitting in front of the TV playing video games instead of being out doors running, playing sports, fistacuffing, etc. when they were growing up.

So three out of seventeen finished the training course and the liberal social engineering activist are celebrating not even a 25 % success rate. :lamo That's really lowering the bar in the name of political correctness.
 
We had plenty of kids who shouldn't have graduated get drug across the finish line at SOI. Yeah. 3 out of 17 making that standard is not... positive.

Howdy Tigger,

I agree with what you said, but one point I have to make.

Please do not call Marines "Soldiers"... Nor Sailors, nor Airmen. We are all very different and have different skills and bring very different things to the fight. To us military guys, it is insulting to call us by another's title.
