Like I've pointed out a couple of times, the rising generation has spent years observing the failures of the baby boomer culture. the result is that we are more conservative than they.

A new government survey on the sexual behavior of Americans is out today with some revealing findings about what men and women in this country desire. However you define sex - oral, vaginal, or something else - fewer teens and young adults are having it according to the latest statistics published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Among 15 to 24 year olds, 27% of males and 29% of females had never had sexual contact with another person. Only 22% of guys and gals that age reported being so virginal in 2002, when the last survey was conducted...

... or just more of them answer "no" when asked this question, because they believe that's what expected from them?

Are there numbers on the number on teen pregnancy too?

given the push to make premarital sex acceptable over the past decade or two, it's highly unlikely that more teens feel socially pressured to say "no" today than did in (say) 1990.

It's a flip of the coin.

In some regards, I'm 21 years old. When I was in high school, yes there was alot of pre-marital sex, alot of it originating from myself :2razz: however for me, with a couple of exceptions, none of it was random.

All of it tried to be in a stable relationship of some kind.

But the way I hear even girls my brothers age talking (18), my jaw drops in amazement at some of the things they talk about these days...

Like some serious, serious ****.

I would say teens are alot more responsible now then they were 20 or even 10 years ago... but still. It's difficult to say whats really going on behind the numbers.

^ Rising levels of sex education are likely helping, but I agree with you that it could really go either way. Ultimately teens are going to do what they want.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this. Care to elaborate on the point about baby boomer culture?

More conservative? You forgot this part...

The survey also examined same-sex relationships in America. Twice as many women as men admit to having had a same-sex experience. Among 15-44 year old women, 13% say they've had a sexual experience with a woman. Only 5% of men in the same age group, said they've been intimate with a man.

Another revelation from this survey: Women were three times more likely than men to say they are bisexual.

You gotta love the government - they always have a way with words:
“Has a male ever put his penis in your vagina (also known as vaginal intercourse)?”

“Have you ever put your penis in a female’s rectum or butt (also known as anal sex)?”

This is just a side effect of the obesity epidemic.

Why do you think being a little heavy is going to keep two heavy people from having sex?

Hell - skinny women have been having sex with fatter husbands for centuries.

By logical extension, the baby boomers spent years observing the failures of the previous generation and as a result were more liberal.

Yep - exactly.
In a land where the majority of people are obese - it's pretty silly to think that's keeping them from having an active sex life.

I think it shows that people are valuing sex a little more - maybe the 'free for all 60's' is wearing off a little.

Wasn't one of the notions also that these young people are "too busy" to have that going on in their lives? I seem to recall that being the case in the same study.

Fewer teens and young adults having premarital sex doesn't necessarily mean that they're more conservative.

I, for one, would like for this study to be done again but to also ask teens and young adults 1) how often and how much they masturbate and 2) how often they watch how much porn in a given period time.

So I'm wiling to bet that the decrease in premarital sex has something to do with the increased availability of internet pornography, which has nothing to do with political conservatism.

Premarital sex isn't a problem, it's promiscuous sex that is the problem.

they're also trending more pro-life than their parents

I still don't see how less premarital sex (especially with the proliferation of free internet pornography) and those attitudes on abortion equates to being more conservative.

Because the young are also more supportive of gay rights and prefer marijuana over tobacco.

So just because youth may favor a few certain planks of conservatism doesn't necessarily mean they are becoming more conservative.

Prefering marijuana over tobacco is hardly anti-conservative. It's less dangerous for your health and alot more fun anyway.
I didn't realize smoking a joint went against a plank of conservatism.

Well, during the '80's, Nancy Reagan was the main spokesperson for the "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign among children and teens, and it was Ronald Reagan who stepped up the war on drugs.

The anti-drug policy of conservatives is that the use of drugs go against family values, and most politicians who favor drug legalization get attacked by their opponents for being against family values. This is why it is so difficult for politicians to take pro-legalization stances.
