FBI overstepped terror link probes after 9/11 - Yahoo! News

Another Bush era accusation that is proved. And as usual no Bush official will get jail time for this.

I'm all for sending a few Bu****es to jail but the article makes absolutely no mention about who exatcly gave the FBI the go-ahead to overstep its boundaries. For all we know it was a high ranking official within the FBI who did it knowing the legal implications it would bring. It's not unheard of. They did it with Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. The FBI is not known for being a politically driven organization anyways. They do however have a history of independently overstepping their boundaries to gather intelligence.

It seems the only name to come out so far is Robert Mueller.

I think it's a fine line any Government Agency has to walk when they are assigned the huge job of trying to protect us from Terrorists from outside and within.

Some environmental groups or anarchists do resort to terror tactics in there protests or at least very dangerous activities.

Greenpeace interferes with ships in international waters putting themselves in danger of being killed and also no t doing those on the ships any good in the process.

I don't agree with killing whales if your not ans Eskimo but they get a bit carried away.

The group ELF sets very dangerous fires to protest the use of large amounts of gas in Hummers for example, and they claim it's because they pollute the air.

Yet the fires create more toxic gases in a shorter time than 20 years of gas guzzling would do. This Group is a Terrorist group.

The Anarchists that set fires and break windows are terrorizing businesses in the name of protesting monetary policies of the World community.

So there are examples that make it a tough call as to whom deserves to be investigated.

We know the FBI infiltrated the KKK in the past ans no one outside the Klan complained about it because we all know they were dangerous.

Today we have The new Black Panthers being protected by Obama and their leader advocates killing white people and their babies because he hates all white people.

I have to say the potential here is every bit as dangerous as the KKK. Take a peak at King Samir Shabazz on the streets of America and listen to him: YouTube - Meet The Black Panther Leader Who wants to KILL CRACKER BABIES

There are also those who spike tress and put the lives of lumber Jacks at risk. They are terrorists as well.

So there is cause for alarm and groups who need to be watched and I am glad I don't have to figure our who to check out and whom to ignore.

It's a tough call and I think it's potentially dangerous to paint with too wide a brush when the life they save might be yours or mine.

So think about the motive and get off the old tired pointing of crooked fingers at the Bush Administration all the time, after all for whose Administration does Robert Mueller work today?

It's not my intention to defend the FBI just raise a few points to think about before we get out the rope

And we as was said we don't know who gave the orders.

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything

But one has to ask the following question. Why did the FBI not do this before 9/11 then? Only reasonable answers are.. 1. they saw an opportunity 2. Someone in the Bush administration ordered it.

Now the opportunity was there before 9/11.. World Trade centre bombing, Oklahoma, Columbine.. you name it. Plenty of "excuses" to do this. Only difference was the political colour of the administration. Which brings us back to the Bush administration....

Or maybe, just maybe, something about 9/11 convinced some people in the FBI that they should be a bit more rigorous.

I know that sounds crazy, but it's a possibility.

Seriously dude, if you're going to start talking about what the FBI did before 9/11 at least try picking up a history book. It DID in fact do this LONG before 9/11.

Federal Bureau of Investigation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After Prohibition's repeal, Congress passed the 1934 Communications Act, which outlawed non-consensual phone tapping, but allowed bugging.[15] In another Supreme Court case, the court ruled in 1939 that due to the 1934 law, evidence the FBI obtained by phone tapping was inadmissible in court.[15] A 1967 Supreme Court decision overturned the 1927 case allowing bugging, after which Congress passed the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act, allowing public authorities to tap telephones during investigations, as long as they obtain a warrant beforehand.[15]

Tracked in America: Civil Rights

J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI for almost 50 years, was given free reign to pursue civil rights activists based on his suspicion that communists were infiltrating civil rights organizations to overthrow the government. Hoover sent informants to church meetings, intercepted mail and phone calls, engineered break-ins, and planted news stories to defame civil rights leaders. COINTELPRO (Counter Intelligence Programs) was also instituted against the Communist Party, Socialist Workers Party, white supremacists, black nationalists, and the New Left. Although the civil rights movement ultimately succeeded, many lives were harmed in the process.

COINTELPRO - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

COINTELPRO (an acronym for Counter Intelligence Program) was a series of covert, and often illegal, projects conducted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) aimed at investigating and disrupting dissident political organizations within the United States. The FBI used covert operations from its inception; however, formal COINTELPRO operations took place between 1956 and 1971.[2] The FBI's stated motivation at the time was "protecting national security, preventing violence, and maintaining the existing social and political order."[3]

Seriously dude. It's nothing new. It didn't start with the Bush administration. It started with the FBI. It has always had as a front-line goal to intercept and gather information from far right/far left groups which do and have promoted home grown terrorism. They don't even have to be far left or far right. The FBI has a LONG history of following certain organizations and violating their rights. It's not like PETA and Greenpeace aren't monetary supporters of ALF and ELF.

Yea sure.. but why did that not happen after Oklahoma? After all that was directly targeting the government. Or was 9/11 maybe just that excuse needed under a right wing government to go after "leftist" organisations?

Because the OKC bombing was executed by a loan nut job. 9/11 was pulled off by an international terrorist orginization.

Yes, cause its OBVIOUS that 9/11 affected people at the FBI then OKC should've affected those exact same people the exact same way because I mean...EVERYTHING about OKC and 9/11 are identical...

Save for being about 18 times the death toll of the OKC bombing....

Save for the cost being more than 100 times that of the OKC bombing....

Save for the monumentally different impact on our economy and transportation systems between the two...

Save for the difference between at most two lone nutjobs compared to 20 individuals financed and supported by an international terror organization that had declared war on the U.S.....

Save for six years in between the two...

Save for those things, EVERYONE at the FBI definitely should've already been acting like this because naturally the OKC bombing is EXACTLY like 9/11
