Sorry Person, but I've got to agree with John here.

Unless that pot was known procured from a safe source with a known chain of custody, I think safety *is* a valid concern.

Especially - if the joint was something being communally passed around in the park.

People do get inadvertently dosed at public concerts like this. It's been going on since the sixties ...

I didn't say anything about arresting her, I made a comment about them doing their JOB and how I would expect a father to react to such a situation. If the SS just idly stands by while she violates a Fed. law, then they aren't doing their job. Someone should have stepped in and at least made sure that if she was going to light up, that she did it somewhere private and camera-free. If I'm her father, I'm busting some SS ass for not stopping her, for allowing her to be photographed and for just plain failing to protect her image.

I suppose we'll just have to disagree. The only time I've come across pot that was actually laced with something, it was because we put it in there on purpose.

As in, PCP in the joint? Acid or mushrooms would be destroyed by heat, opiate powders would not completely burn and those that did burn would largely destroy the chemical, ditto cocaine & crack, etc. I don't know...seems like a pretty low risk when it comes to a joint (as opposed to a drink being passed around, which is far easier to dose with all sorts of things).

But even then...if the concern is safety, they'll grab her if she falls over or starts acting crazy. To me, it seems like one of those marginal risks not worth worrying all that much about in the circumstances.


For some reason, I wish to tell the following personal anecdote at this time:

Funny enough (or not at all), I actually *was* inadvertently dosed with something at a Slash concert several years ago, but I think it was intended for my wife. We were on the general floor but sticking near the bars/speakers. We were taking turns fetching the next round. Half-way through the concert, it was her turn again. She comes back with my whiskey on the rocks and some kind of nasty looking purple drink for herself. Eventually, I finish my whiskey. She had decided she doesn't want any of her drink and hadn't had any. Rather than throw it out, I say "what the hell?" and gulp down her drink. By that point, I only had a medium buzz going - nowhere near "drunk". However, that's just about where things get extremely fuzzy.

Note: I have always had a seriously high tolerance and haven't drank anywhere near the point of vomiting since quite a while ago, back in college. What happened next has never happened to me from alcohol alone, and I almost certainly would have seen double, then gotten dizzy, then vomited, well beforehand if what follows was caused by booze.

Basically, the next thing I remember after gulping down her nasty sweet drink is the lights coming on and my wife helping guide me out of the place. Apparently, I simply stopped talking or moving, and just kind of leaned against her staring vacantly ahead for the next hour or more. I vaguely remember being unable to take out my wallet when we were in the taxi on the way home. Once we got back, she tells me, she concluded I was utterly drunk, got mad, and basically stamped from the taxi upstairs to our apartment (one flight). But when I didn't come up, she came back downstairs and found me sitting on the floor in the entryway, staring at the door, not moving. So she grabbed my hand and guided me up the steps. I walked up them, but only because I was being led. That I don't remember. I do remember waking up the next day, around 11 AM, with one leg and one arm on the floor, face-down on the mattress......and being completely out of it until around 8pm. I didn't feel hung-over. I felt tranquilized.

I strongly suspect someone dropped a "roofie" or similar sedative into her drink, and then got rather disappointed when I ended up zombifying myself by unwittingly drinking it.

The point is...she did not violate a federal law if she temporarily possessed a joint on state land. That's just the way it is.


The federal drug laws dealing with activity only occurring within state bounds are manufacturing type offenses. That's only viable because of shakily reasoned Interstate Commerce Clause cases from the 30s addressing federal laws governing production of various grains within state, on the general reasoning that sufficient production affects commerce across state lines even if the activity only happens within them.

The pictures are quite fuzzy...so of course you'll assume that it's weed instead of being a cigarette, based on nothing more than if-the-name-Obama-is-included-we-must-assume-the-worst.

Personally, I see a teenager...being a teenager. If she DID smoke pot and twerk, if that's the worst she ever did, then considering what today's teenagers are like, the Obama's are pretty lucky indeed compared to most parents today.

And I'm quite confident you know that already.

It amazes me sometimes that people seem unable to compartmentalize their political dislike of someone, without automatically assuming that every politician they disagree with is basically Lucifer.

If you are currently smoking it, that counts as possession which is still against federal law. Probably not the amount involved. They can't arrest you for past usage of smoking pot though.
