Should Musk be allowed to put a stop to Twitter's interference in elections?

Poll is anonymous, so please be honest.

If he says it then it must be true. LOL!

What do you mean by allowed? Who would allow it since he owns it? How even could twitter interfere? They cant generally stop people running for office, raising money, running ads, voting, etc. All he, or twitter before him, could do is stop people posting words on a app/website. Thats not interference in a election, no more than a newspaper saying who can or cant cant write words in their paper is.
Damn Jonny that is some fine incite from you. I did not know you had it in you.

both answers are wrong due to a faulty underlying assumption

LOL If Twitter promotes violence and hate speech they will be violating laws against those things won't they?
If people who "use" Twitter promote violence and hate speech, then THEY are the ones violating laws...not Twitter.

Well, if you are just focusing on Twitter, then the answer to my question...by whom...would be Musk.

I guess it's up to Musk to decide if he'll allow Twitter to continue interfering in elections. My guess is he won't.
Again interfering in an election is a crime. Maybe Elon will appoint a special prosecutor. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I do recall this being an issue of discussion back in what like 2018 or 2019 when it was clear that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and Twitter was a part of it.

You know- the time Trump sold us out on the world stage in Helsinki and believed Putin over America intelligence agencies, remember?

I also recalling it being brushed off "American interferes with all kinds of elections, it's ok" and "social media doesn't decide elections"

So just to be clear, it's now bad for social media to interfere in elections and Donald Trump was in fact wrong to not call out Putin for meddling in our elections via Twitter.

Not really. Twitter can be sued for promoting violence on their platform.

Jury finds rally organizers liable for the violence that broke out in Charlottesville

A jury in Virginia has found a group of white nationalists who organized the deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va., liable of engaging in a conspiracy ahead of the violent demonstration, awarding the plaintiffs who brought the case more than $25 million in damages on Tuesday.

Thanks for calling out the hypocrisy on the Right not that they care a bit about being hypocrites. It is pretty much their thing. Elections are only fair if they win you know.

Translation: Twitter will now interfere in favor of the Right instead of the Left.

Musk didn't specify in detail the things Twitter allegedly did, so an itemized list is not available.
Ah, you are missing the point: Allegedly is all that is needed. You know. Allegedly stolen elections. Allegedly Globalists. Allegedly Hunter Biden. Allegedly corrupt FBI and DOJ.

Such a wonderful method of spreading innuendo, just allege something.

Is there something in that article that says Twitter was found responsible? From what you posted, it was people who organized the rally who were found responsible.

how did "twitter" "interfere" with elections?

without knowing what that means i cant really answer

in general, though musk can run twitter however he sees fit within the law, he can block, reinstate, ban, suspend, edited remove people/post however he wants on his property just like whoever owned it before did and just like he is factually doing now

same as DP can do here

same as you or i could do with websites we own
this is basic common sense
🤷‍♂️

I mean, if more Russian disinformation is "not influencing elections", I suppose.

how did "twitter" "interfere" with elections? . . .
In October 2020, the RAND Corporation (a political think-tank) published reports from two seperate studies which (generally) found that

"Social media has made it cheaper and easier for foreign actors to mount increasingly sophisticated attacks on our democracy and our political discourse, Many Americans are immersed in online conversations that have been shaped artificially, and that are giving them a false and distorted picture of the world." - William Marcellino/behavioral scientist at RAND

The latest study used software tools developed by RAND to analyze a very large dataset of 2.2 million tweets from 630,391 unique Twitter accounts collected between Jan. 1 and May 6, 2020. The analysis found that troll and super-connector accounts overwhelmingly cluster in certain Twitter communities engaged in political conversations around the election. https://phys.org/news/2020-10-efforts-twitter-elections-foreign-based.html

I mean, if more Russian disinformation is "not influencing elections", I suppose.

The RAND study found that Russian disinformation IS influencing elections. Due to its popularity, Twitter was the platform of choice, however other platforms were used to spread disinformation as well.

Yeah, and guess what Elon is about to allow more of?

lol

That would be the Russians influencing elections, not twitter

Yeah, and guess what Elon is about to allow more of?

lol
Musk has publiclyly stated that new Twitter screening algorithms were specifically designed to kill foreign bot accounts. Musk knew that many (foreign) Twitter accounts would be eliminated, and that the userbase would dwindle accordingly.

Maybe the pretend Republicans and anti-vax bots can help him.

Musk has openly ststed that new Twitter algorithms were specifically designed to kill foreign bot accounts.
Bwaahaha

Yeah, ok. He's done nothing but make a mess of things. But yes, let us pretend he's not going to allow a bevy of Russian propaganda.

I read a story on one of my news feeds that the EU has warned Elon that an unfettered twitter will run afoul of their laws and rules and he will face consequences if he allows
twitter to become the wild west of social media.

"allowed"???

Allowed by whom?

Maybe a better questions is...should the government be "allowed" to tell Musk what to do with his own company?

Just how much corrupt government do we REALLY want to put up with?

It depends on what he's doing with that company.
If he's firing people for no reason and treating those that remain like absolute scum then yes, the government should wholeheartedly intervene.

If trump has fired almost everyone in oversight departments such as those scanning and reporting child porn then again yes, he should face government action.

Companies such as Twitter have regulatory actions they must adhere to and Musk has gutted the departments responsible for them, he wasn't forced to do so he chose to do so and should hace the consequences.

Yep, EU data protection rules are extremely serious and the fines for breaking the rules can be unlimited.
The same goes for the UK.

I don't even know what it means to say that Twitter interfered in elections, in the context of a social media platform where nearly every important politician participates. Isn't interfering in elections the whole point of a platform where people can talk politics? Are we interfering in elections here at DP?
