Early US intel assessment suggests strikes on Iran did not destroy nuclear sites, sources say

...The findings suggest that President Trump’s statement that Iran’s nuclear facilities were obliterated was overstated, at least based on the initial damage assessment. Congress had been set to be briefed on the strike on Tuesday, and lawmakers were expected to ask about the findings of the assessment, but the session was postponed. Senators are now set be briefed on Thursday.

The report also said much of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was moved before the strikes, which destroyed little of the nuclear material. Some of that may have been moved to secret nuclear sites maintained by Iran.

Some Israeli officials said they also believe that Iran has maintained small covert enrichment facilities that were built so the Iranian government could continue its nuclear program in the event of an attack on the larger facilities....

A lot of low rank officials are tasked with making reports. Leaking one before it's gaining track and becoming something of essence is classic political move. I'm not sure why people get excited over 'early assessments' anyhow.

cause we wanna know and don't mind getting fooled.

this is just Part One of the final Sand Box war. .......they will keep getting Bigger.

yes, much much Bigger.

and that is not an 'early assessment' or close to it, we have known this for a Long Long time.

guess how.

whatever the type rocks they have been hit with lots of explosives. Chances are ( and you can see from the visible photo) rocks have been moved around / possible striation fractures -whatever.

So Iran is going to go in there with heavy earth moving equipment to dig out the looser material, but rely on sidewalls that have been hit numerous times with high explosives? Good luck with that. Anyhow they dont have the money to do so. their infrastructure is a mess, they are running out of ballistic missiles. All more important then a nuke program.

Also many scientists killed. where do they replace that knowledge? If by some miracle they manage to overcome all that (impossible) then we just go in and whack-a-mole again.. Iran isn't stupid. if it did anything it would try to repair Hezbollah and get the Houthis to start up again/ I dont thenk they can do even that -and again if they did Israel would 'degrade' them again

Let's count the ways it's a problem.

Trump decided to drop the bombs in the first place without really telling Americans anything. We're not even sure if he notified Congress or gave them updated intel to support his actions. Not sure how it would qualify as some sort of imminent threat if you can't even give pretty conclusive evidence.

He then saw that assessment and told and told the world we "obliterated" the Iran nuclear site, he lied. Come to find out, we didn't obliterate it. We bombed another nation for minimal damage. Also, if Iran wasn't "close to a bomb" before, I'm pretty sure they are motivated now. They were just negotiating a deal with the President and next thing you know, they were under a bombing campaign.
LOL, sure... Tell everyone beforehand, so that our people are in much more danger. Jeez.

Iran is thought to have only used about half of their missles - est 1500 remaining. Also, its population is 90million. Between that & Russian scientists,I think they can figure out how rocks & nukes work.

Two of the people familiar with the assessment said Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. One of the people said the centrifuges are largely “intact.”
The centrifuges might be intact, but they are done for. the stress of vibrations mean they can no longer separate, Critical velocity is likely to just break them apart

Share intel with members of Congress. After the bombing campaign is complete, tell us why you're bombing another country.

Pretty straightforward stuff. Instead, nada telling us the why, just lies about how successful it was.

Well that didn’t deter Trump supporters from declaring victory all day yesterday. Sorry you missed the boat.

I'm a Trump supporter......you didn't see me yesterday, did you? Does it make you angry that Trump possibly could have done something right and correct? Is it an impossible thing to ever accept?

Its not "figuring out" anything. it's dealing with a compromised site. as mentioned they have lots of other problems too.
Why would they even try when 1/2 their missiles are gone /many scientists and IRGC leadership dead.

But even f they do whack a mole II undoes all that again

...But the Defense Intelligence Agency report indicates that the sites were not damaged as much as some administration officials had hoped, and that Iran retains control of almost all of its nuclear material, meaning if it decides to make a nuclear weapon it might still be able to do so relatively quickly....

Initial Israeli damage assessments have also raised questions of the effectiveness of the strikes. Israeli defense officials said they have also collected evidence that the underground facilities at Fordo were not destroyed....

Military officials had said that to do more significant damage to the underground sites, they would have to be hit with multiple strikes. But Mr. Trump announced he would stop the strikes after approving the first wave....

Even a broken watch . . . .

Top secret document supposedly leaked? Can the Iranians even get in there to do their own assessment? Are there Iranians spying for Israel or the USA? More questions than answers.

It may be hard to work at the sites if they are subjected to occassional bombings. It will seem to me like the nuclear scientists will want some quiet while at work
