Drunk rant about liberals and the GOP

I'm a couple of drinks in, so I'm going to preface with that and also try to keep this as to the point as possible. I can type better than I can read so we will see how this turns out.

Basically, I'm frustrated. I'm angry at the GOP for blocking any change we have at progress. I'm angry at the democrats for pretending to care about the average American while doingalmost nothign to help them. I'm angry that virtually nothing seems to be getting done about climate change. I'm furious that the richest country in the history of Earth can't figure out how to provide high stand of living for its citizens. I'm tired of arguing against strawmen. I'm tired of explaining why Joe Biden isn't literally a communist. I'm tired of explaining that socialist isn't when the government does stuff. I don't want free stuff. I don't want a strong central government. I don't idolize the USSR and China. I think anyone should be ashamed because of their race. There are so many policies that is just seems like are both popular and beneficial, but we can't get implemented. Universal healthcare seems like it should be the backbone of any liberal society, but we can't do it. I swear if we tried to pass seatbelt laws or institute public libraries today people would call those socialist policies. Not that I'd care since I'm a socialsit and stuff bit like those are generic liberal things. Like I feel like global warming should scare everyone but for some reason it seems like nobody cares half the time. Like its the most confirmed apacolypse we have ever had and almost nothing is being done to stop it. A 4C average warming globally could mean some places are colder than they are now, but Europe could end up as high as 9C (50F or something math is hard and Eurpean temperature is dumd) higher during heat waves. I'm too drunk to cite anytthing google it like I did. Also capitalism is stupid and dumb and the democrats are too stupid to run a viable candidate in 2022/24. Basically vote for a progressive or something next election assuming voting is still a thing that matters.

Also when can Biden get those factories and stuff working because I've been trying to buy a GPU for like a year and it sucks.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Well spoken by a true Republican.

I'm very pleased with my BidenCare™ plan.
Dont get me wrong, more could be done though!

Well spoken by a true Republican.

Ah yes. Any critique of the Democratic Party by someone on the far-left is in favor of the Republican Party. Just like when I discuss how disgusted I am with Donald Trump, I am a Hillary Clinton supporter. If you are not in complete solidarity with one party and an apologist for every single one of its actions (or lack of action), you are automatically in favor of the opposing party and shall be treated with the appropriate level of hatred, scorn and obloquy.

This is where the lowest common denominator equivalent of team sport politics gets us: the equivalent of rampant soccer hooliganism.

Wow, is that what they meant by that comment? That's disappointing. It's our right as Americans to despise our government and politicians regardless of which party is in power. I don't plan on letting Biden's presidency strip me of that tradition.

I never understood the dogma of refraining from criticizing groups you align yourself with. For example, the attack that is often levied against criticisms of the US is that it's "unpatriotic". Criticizing the Democrats general incompetence and inaction must mean you're shilling for the GOP. The clowns on the left that throw out any information critical of China/Russia/Cuba/Syria etc as Western CIA propaganda.

Obviously concern trolling is a real tactic and something to be wary of, but in general why would you not want to criticize groups you associate with? I don't want Stalinists as part of my left. I don't want the Democrats to develop the same patterns of behavior I criticize the GOP for. I don't want problems to go unresolved in the country I live in because they are unrecognized. I want all these groups to be better than they are.

Well that is a major problem when we develop polarized black-and-white team politics. People will let their chosen political party get away with murder because the other side is so utterly vile and beyond redemption. Forget about what the political party you vote for actually does for you to improve your day-to-day life. If you believe that the other party is a threat to your very existence, then you will accept mediocre-to-outright terrible. The GOP plays on this constantly. I cannot tell you how many times I am told that the political left wants to take children away from their parents and turn them into gender-confused basket cases. Or, at the very least, make children believe that our country is unworthy of any praise and tear down every monument because it is veneration of a system allegedly created by and for white slave owners with any other ideal being a lie rather than an unfulfilled promise.

If you believe the people on the other side want to take away your kids and make them hate our country, you will defend representatives who believe in Jewish Space Lasers or transport minors across state lines to have sexual intercourse with. If you believe that people on the other side want to make sure you cannot vote on the basis of your race and are okay with police murdering you at their discretion if you are the wrong ethnicity in the wrong neighborhood, you will defend political candidates who engage in flagrant insider trading and self-enrichment. Because that is where we are as a country. You cannot expect better when the other side is pure evil.

Both parties suck and are not passing legislation that benefits all Americans...

Politicians are only enriching themselves and closing the loopholes to stop them.

Wow, is that what they meant by that comment?

I'll bite.
What's meant by it is the fact that you seem to be ignoring the fact that since 2018, Dems have tried like Hell to pass ANYTHING and are being BLOCKED by endless filibusters.

I'm angry at the democrats for pretending to care about the average American while doingalmost nothign to help them.

Did you forget the mile-high stacks of bills passed by the House sitting dead on McConnell's desk?
Did you forget that we have two turncoats who might as well BE Republicans?
Sigh...yeah we Dems are just so awful that we might as well just welcome the Republicans back again.

I voted for Biden. I do believe the Democrats are infinitely more likely to push for policy I support.

The issue is, I really don't believe there are that many Democrats that really care. Most of the issues with congress, in my opinion, are the incentive structures. The way we structured our system literally encourages bad behavior. The Democrats still raise the military budget. Many voted for the Patriot act. They dropped the messaging around the $15 minimum wage and M4A.

Keep in mind, much of my frustration with Democrats doesn't even come from the policies they push for. It's just that they are so incompetent at advocating for those policies sometimes it is infuriating. MOST people want weed legalized. MOST people want to reform the electoral college. MOST people support the $15 minimum wage. MOST people want to do more about climate change. MOST people are against civil asset forfeiture. MOST people want to shrink the military budget. But Democrats, despite supporting all that as a party, can barely manage to get elected. Once they are elected, they barely advocate for the policies that got them there. Like, what is the Democratic platform right now? What is their message? What's their vision for the future of America? I have no idea. The GOP is MUCH better at pushing a unified clear message.

The difference is my criticisms of Democrats is usually for them not being left enough. When I call them incompetent as a party it's because I want them to be better, not because I think people should vote Republican. I want them to crush the GOP; and I think they should be able to easily with a better platform. The nuances of that were lost in my drunken state, unfortunetly.

Thank you for airing your frustrations seemingly without a filter. It is good to get all that out.

I have some questions for you.

I hear you say that you are frustrated that the people in power are not actually doing anything to fix a problem. How do we get people in power to actually take action? Do you have any ideas? Do we need to apply pressure somehow? In what ways could we do that? It seems to be a chronic problem for a political person to promise one thing and then simply kick the can down the road, run on the same issue again, and rinse and repeat for eternity.

What is uniquely specific to a progressive that makes them more likely to fix a problem? Aren't there progressives who also do nothing once they get in office? Whatever method you will use to force the progressive to act, can't we just use that same method to force a moderate or a conservative to act?

Is there a way for little people of both parties to join somehow -- perhaps picking together a moderate candidate who will fix problems for both sides?

I'm furious that the richest country in the history of Earth can't figure out how to provide high stand of living for its citizens.

You might want to consider how the richest country in the history of the world got rich in the first place.

As you hint at later, the problem is systemic.
Most of the issues with congress, in my opinion, are the incentive structures. The way we structured our system literally encourages bad behavior.

"Corporate money" is the obvious talking point. But I also think proportional representation, ranked choice voting, and getting rid of the filibuster would make a huge difference.

What is uniquely specific to a progressive that makes them more likely to fix a problem? Aren't there progressives who also do nothing once they get in office?
Two main things.
1) They generally take less or no corporate money
2) They generally have the solutions I talked about as part of their platform

I don't think they are "uniquely likely", but their platforms are already run on being very combative towards big business. So I think because of how they were elected and the issues they choose to focus on makes them more likely to actually take steps to reform the election process.

To put it really simply, Bernie for example has an entire "Get corporate money out of politics" page on his website. Biden and Pelosi don't bother to put any focus on that at all. So, I do believe the people who talk about the issue are more likely to take action on it than the people who aren't.

Is there a way for little people of both parties to join somehow -- perhaps picking together a moderate candidate who will fix problems for both sides?
I think that it's possible. Yang was probably the closest we've come to that, as he strongly supported ranked choice voting.

Much of what you say resonates with me.

I don’t have a “home” in either party anymore. I think too many are in it for their own gain, not really for the people in this country.

Look at legislation. Nothing can be simple, every bill is pages and pages long and there’s a lot of “good” but then some nonsense gets thrown in and it all goes sideways.

This is why I’d love to see term limits on every politician - from your local school board all the way up. Politics shouldn’t be a career, it should be a term of public service and then back to the “real world”.

I strongly support term limits. I think that should apply to the supreme court too (but much longer ones) so we aren't constantly playing this stupid game of trying to figure out when justices will die or getting people to tactically retire.

I’d have an age-out in the bench. Heck, I’d have an age-out on all political offices.

If you still own a VCR, for example, you shouldn’t be running the country.

I agree with these assessments almost verbatim. You're more lucid under the influence than most are dead sober. (y)

A good thing to do if for whatever reason(s) you aren't entirely in the right mind but have something you feel important to say: write it. Even start editing it. But look it over when you're clear. Cuts down on the spontaneous eloquence, but can save a fail . . .

Also capitalism is stupid and dumb

Historically, it generates the maximum wealth, which powers work. Production. Advance.

Unconstrained (often on the libertarian / farther right bits of the spectrum), it screws over the maximum possible number of people for the benefit of the minimum number of possible people. Hence, it has to be regulated. Government should be focused on providing public goods and services; a good way to determine whether something might be a public good is to look at just how sub-optimal markers in the market are.

Socialism? The government ownership of the means of production? For one thing, that's never gone well when taken literally. The out is to note that the governments who did that were also brutal totalitarian regimes, so perhaps that affected things. I simply cannot see how government trying to run it all could be more efficient than regulated capitalism. It requires blindly assuming that we'll only ever have the best most competent governments, moreso than the private sector.

Have you seen the GOP?

the democrats are too stupid to run a viable candidate in 2022/24.

They said that in 2020. I worried when Biden got the nomination. But here we are.

2022 is going to be a clobbering according to history; also so according are the announcements that it's actually because Biden is commie satan. Depends on whether people continue to have the attention spans of severely concussed goldfish swimming through a mild current. It is the Twitter Age.

If they remember and they notice how Trump continues to direct the GOP, they'll turn out again. They probably won't, then complain, and say the complaints justify not having turned out.

Basically vote for a progressive or something next election assuming voting is still a thing that matters.

Do it in primaries if that's what you want. But as long as Trump is the GOP, every last consideration that lead to people who did not like Biden voting for him applies.

I feel like global warming should scare everyone but for some reason it seems like nobody cares half the time. Like its the most confirmed apacolypse we have ever had and almost nothing is being done to stop it.

sigh,... the reason nobody seems to care is because the geniuses both sides of the political aisle are too busy debating (using their respective tribe's oh so brilliant talking points)

(4x6 PC) The Robbers Cave extinction experiment.png

what's ironically humorous is,... because extremists keep on chanting their respective tribe's mind numbing talking points (so nothing substantive happens),... actually will ensure the most fair "political" solution

just sayin,... if existing trends continue,... hypocritical jesus freaks (on the right) as well as woke transgenger BLM activists (on the left) all get their wish granted (essentially the other side gets canceled permanently!!!)

FWIW for those that have not been paying attention,... here is the big picture in a nutshell

All the things you are complaining about were caused by or the good things blocked by the GOP. A no-brainer = get the GOP out of office

While I agree, I don't think even a 100% controlled Democrat government would fix a lot of issues. My follow up post to this addresses the point better in a more sober fashion.

Substantive change will never be realized through politics, unfortunately. In the end, political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.
