From The South China Morning Post
The US has little interest in joining other countries in a multi-nation effort to get North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, President Donald Trump’s national security adviser said Sunday.
The United States is not trying to exclude other nations from nuclear talks with Pyongyang, John Bolton told Fox News Sunday, but “I think it’s not what our preference is”.
“I think Kim Jong-un, at least up until now, has wanted the one-on-one contact with the United States, which is what he has gotten,” Bolton said, adding that Trump is open to possibility of a third summit with Kim.
Following their talks in Russia on Thursday, President Vladimir Putin suggested the revival of a multilateral approach to the denuclearisation negotiations, which have failed in the past.
COMMENTS:-
1. Obviously, considering the source, this is a completely false story - right?
2. The advantage of "multi-party talks" from Mr. Trump's point of view is that he can always blame the Russians and/or the Chinese if they fall apart - blaming Mr. Kim simply doesn't have any headline appeal any longer.
3. The disadvantage of "one on one" talks from Mr. Trump's point of view is that he will be blamed if he doesn't come up with a resounding win that gives the US 100% of what it wants and gives the DPRK 0.00% of what it wants.
4. The advantage of "multi-party talks" from Mr. Kim's point of view is that he has some third-party assurance that Mr. Trump will actually "pay for the pianos once delivered".
5. The disadvantage of "one on one talks" from Mr. Kim's point of view is that he would have to be dealing with someone who has a track record of NOT "paying for the pianos once delivered" (and someone who just might not be capable of recognizing a piano if it fell on him).
6. When you add those five together, it is absolutely inconceivable that any rational person wants "one on one talks" and that means that there is no way that Mr. Trump wants "one on one talks"- right?
Donald Trump wants one-on-one, not multiparty talks with Kim Jong-un, national security adviser John Bolton says
