Trumps skum baggery goes all the way back to the 70's. His early properties were built with the assistance and approval of Fat Tony Salerno (who Roy Cohen was representing) and the mafia. All of the cement used in his NY tower was provided by Salerno who was later indicted for racketeering. Trump didn't go out of his way to avoid the mafia, he sought their help. And knowing his history and shady grifting past, many of us were scratching our heads saying "wtf, there is no way that this clown will get elected, everyone knows he's a grifter" What Donald Trump managed to do was coalesce every guest and audience member of the Jerry Springer show and unite them and call them his base.

"Trump's ties to Russia are more evident than ever" is just plain wrong.

My comment about "killing the world with Covid" was hyperbolic, intentionally so, but it should be noted that everything this administration did was equally ineffective against the bug. Furthermore, the "maskless rallies" didn't do a damned thing to increase the spread of Covid and no such complaints were made during the "summer of love" riots so hy hyperbole was merely a reflection of your hyperbole in that comment.

With regard to "insurrection", that's just plain political crazy talk. There was no "insurrection". There was a mob and there was some violence but calling it an "insurrection" would be akin to calling the "summer of love" a Race War.

The goal of 1/6 was to stop the certification of Joe Biden and to keep Donald Trump in power. Several Oath Keepers have been charged seditious conspiracy. 800 indicted for various charges. You're willfully ignorant.

It's unfortunate. Democrats riot for months, and there are no investigations, because it's mostly peaceful.

One protest gets out of hand in DC, and now we're getting a message sent - if there is a right-leaning protest, beware, you will be investigated.

Trumpers cannot admit that the events of the 6th was an attempt to obstruct Congress, stop the electoral verification, send the country into a Constitutional crisis and keep Trump in power. It was an attempt to thwart an election. They simply cannot do that because if they do everything falls apart for them.

The event was planned and financed, A violent mob broke into the Capitol and interrupted a lawful Government proceedings, many armed, some calling to hang the VP. The goal was to stop the certification of Joe Biden and keep Donald Trump in power.

OK, lets be REALLY clear about this; if I call 4 friends and talk them into going to a protest and I'll even buy lunch and gas then I "financed and planned" our attendance. If we show up at the protest and, after a few beers, decide to take over the government that it's US that get charged with disorderly conduct or whatever. It doesn't mean that we rally had any chance at all of taking the government over. That wasn't going to happen even if we kidnapped and hanged Mike Pence. It also doesn't mean that the rest of the protesters were part of our plan or even that they had any idea we were there, much less there with a plan.

If, under those circumstances, the government decides that it needs to arrest thousands of people, have a multi year investigation, go to the news with wild stories about "saving democracy" or whatever then all that shit is crazy talk. It's ESPECIALLY crazy talk when, after a full year of "investigation" they managed to charge, not even convict but bust CHARGE, a mere handful of participants with anything even close to "insurgency".

1/6 was not the apocalypse, It was Donald Trump feeding his own megalomaniacal ego by using a riled up mob to keep himself in power because he couldn't accept the fact that he lost. 1/6 was a stain on American democracy. Take part in an insurrection, try to suspend the peaceful transfer of power, threatening lawmakers and screaming to hang the VP, just because you're pissed off your guy lost -- then beware, you will be investigated, tried and thrown in jail.

The one thing you are not taking into account is that if all witnesses had testified without fighting subpoenas, if trump hadn't claimed executive privilege and forced a fight all the way to the SCOTUS, this would be over by now, and not carryover to election season. Most of the delay involved courtroom battles.

It's about time.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is expanding its probe of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack to include the events leading up to the preceding rally, and the wider conspiracies that fueled the violence, people familiar with the issue told The Washington Post.

Before supporters of former President Trump attacked the Capitol, many participated in a rally that had multiple speakers, including Trump himself.

Sources told the Post the DOJ is now looking to the planning of the rally and the conspiracy theories that surrounded the event.

The rally was based around the false claims that Trump won the 2020 presidential election and that election fraud was the reason President Biden won.

The DOJ has begun issuing subpoenas to investigate the funding and planning of the event as well as who was involved. People familiar with the issue told the Post the subpoenas were issued against those in Trump’s circle but would not say what they requested or who received them.
