And Soviet army cars in Baden-Baden, where there once was a Soviet military mission, as Baden-Baden was the capital of the French army in the French zone of Germany.
Like Heidelberg was the capital of the US army in the US zone of Germany.

As a West German I have hardly ever seen real Soviet soldiers in real life.

You'd have been more likely to have simply seen East German soldiers, as most SOVIETS were doing KGB stuff, and the East German military was doing the soldiering.
Either that or I have a couple of bottles of Gewürztraminer that are older than you are.
