The latest CBS News/New York Times Poll finds Americans cynical about and dissatisfied with government.
At 75 percent, the percentage that disapproves of Congress now matches the highest level recorded in this poll; only in October 2008 and March 1992 was disapproval so high. The two parties themselves have also fallen in public estimation -- more than half the public views the Democratic Party and the Republican Party unfavorably.
And while President Obama fares better than Congress in the poll, his job approval rating is now 46 percent, matching his lowest approval rating ever.
The public's dissatisfaction extends to government in general as well. The poll found seven in ten Americans feel they don't have much say in what the government does (a record high), and nearly four in five think government is run by a few big interests, while just 18 percent think it is run for the benefit of all Americans.
Trust in Government Nears All-Time Low - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
CBS polls show that Americans are deeply dissatisfied with government on the whole.
Could this be a turning point in American politics, especially given the high levels of dissatisfaction regarding both major political parties? Could this be a possible door opening for third parties?
Do you agree with these poll results (do you trust the government) and does this affect your own views on the two party system as we know it?
Thoughts?
I do trust my government....and I am wide awake.I feel really bad for anybody that trust Government. They (sheep) know not what they do and best wake up.
I do not trust the government overall.I trust them with some things but I do not trust them to stay in their intended role.
The government is comprised of career politicians who couldn't care less about the individuals that make up this great country unless it happens to impact their chances for re-election. The government has given me little reason to trust them in anything. There is an inverse relationship between my age and the amount of trust I have in our government.

Statesmen are rare, and politicians suck. That being said, I subscribe to the founders notion that government is a necessary evil which must be of as minimal of scope as possible. I love our country, I hate what our government has become over the years, it's a bloated, fat, glutton in need of a diet. Republicans and Democrats are all responsible for the situation, they'll both grow the scope of government for their own niche issues. It would be quite foolish for me to trust any governing body, who has shown that it can be completely reckless and only seriously considers moneyed interests.
There is no place for people who want a honest and fair government.

I trust them more than I trust the alternative.

The problems are ignorance and fear of the people, not the government.
But, can "government" do better?
You betcha""..
Can people do better?
Ditto.
How?
Learn good English and communication skills, then participate, ask pointed questions, assume nothing.
Both government and the people must ask themselves this .."Have I done the best possible job"?
The answer should be NO - every time.

that is sort of a revealing expose of the leftwing mindset
Libs often complain about the wealth being concentrated in the hands of the industrious, the hardworking and the fortunate. So their solution is to concentrate all wealth in the hands of the federal government via confiscatory taxation and a death tax surcharge.
many libs don't trust honest citizens to own firearms so their solution is to give the government ( and a major Dem constituency-criminals) a complete monopoly on firepower.
a large number of libs don't trust private citizens to save for retirement, homsechool their children, etc--once again, their solution is to give the government control over such things.
true-some conservatives don't trust people in their own bedroom but the faith based support of the government is mostly a leftwing thing
