Well I think the punishment should be the same regardless of someones race......

Sure if it's some sort of legal punishment. Imus isn't being convicted of a crime. They just let him go because enough people are out there screaming with outrage and swearing to put their money where their outrage is. So he becomes "bad business."

However you take someone like Sharpton and no matter what he says he can't get even so much as a rise out of enough white people to cause a stir! Why? Cause we think he's funny.

I find him repulsive.

No but he calls where the jews live in NY hymie town.......I guess you didn't know that.....Yeah, right:roll:
What year was that Navy Pride? Do you know? Do you? DO YOU KNOW?

It was 1984 NAVY PRIDE! 1984!

If he said it today he too would be fired from his radio show. But I don't see him getting fired for a public remark made 23 years ago.

Is that the best you can do here to defend that ahole Imus? You need to go back 23 years to try to come up with an argument?

BTW do you know what else Imus has said on his show, do you?

Here you go:

Media Matters - Imus Has Long Record of Incendiary Remarks

Being politically correct is in the eye of the beholder. I guarantee you that what you consider to be politically correct the vast majority of Americans do not...which therefore makes your point of view politically INCORRECT.

Well, sadly, but I have to agree with Navy on this one.
Although I dissagree with what Imus said I think that we are catering to political correctness.
For them to get rid of a man that has since devoted his life to helping sick children seems like they did it without thinking about all the after effects that will hurt White AND Black children.
All the sponsers that backed out and the ones that fired Imus should be made to pay for all the White AND Black children that will lose Imus and his devoted wifes help!
If any kid dies because of Imus' firing it will be on the back of the sponsers and the ones that fired Imus.
We know that all the lowlife politicans on both sides will distance themselves from Imus just to satisfy voters.

NO ONE seems to be looking at the whole picture and the whole man.

You don't get it, NP. This was not a political or sociological decision. It was a financial decision. Don't complain about the left. Complain about those that employ each of these people.

I agree with you on PC bullshit, tolerance for intolerance, and censorship is getting out of hand in America. But this is not a good argument to make to that case.

Well I see the count is 10-3....I wonder who the 3 are huh Gibberish, Hatuey, Kandahar...

Huh? I didn't say the country wasn't overly PC, I said that Imus' firing has nothing to do with it.

I didn't vote in the poll at all.

How many times must I tell ya? I don't vote in polls. Just answer them

Well it looks like the political correct left has won......Imus got fired.......So I ask the question.
what does Imus losing his job have to with political correctness? He lost his job because he lost his major sponsors. He made a mistake referring to the girls as ho s. that was plain dumb.

pathetic thing is that, as a terrestrial broadcaster, he is on a delay so he could have edited
my mother sees his comments as nothing more than "thats Imus"

and the stations pulled their commercials due to PC
I have not seen their photos, but from what I have heard they do not look anything like their prettied up photo op pics
and that they are some nappied lookin ho's
is it wrong if it is true?
is it wrong only if a white man says it?

Imus is a douchebag
glad to see him go, but...
was it warranted or just reationary BS to PC run amok

No, the sponsors pulled out because they were afraid that THEY would lose money if they continued to support him.

Umm
The term "ho" is offensive when pretty much anyone says it. I'd never heard the term "nappy-headed" before, but from what I understand, there's no way it could be interpreted in a non-racial way.

It's warranted if he becomes a net liability for his employer. My employer would do the same to me, if I was costing him more money than I was producing.

there are more sponsors out there than those who pulled their support
probably 1000 times more potential sponsors
this was nothing more than Imus being Imus

and yet rappers, and the corporations that back them, use that term all the time
nappy headed refers only to their hair
ho's are ho's

but they did not even give the sales staff a chance to find what sponsors might replace those who backed away
from the stories I have read, he makes $10 mil/yr on a show that generates $15 mil / yr

seems to me they could have spent a few days/weeks to find alternative sponsors if it was just a monetary issue
It was the PC response of the advertisers, that led to his quick downfall
there could have been plenty of peeps who would fund the program
but we will never know
CBS was crippled by Rathergate, and now Imusgate
they are done

Absolutely. The firing of Don Imus proved that you can't run the risk of offending anyone without the American media and it's favorite whore, Al Sharpton, attempting to have you crucified. There will come a time where there will be no blacks, but only african americans. No old people, just senior citizens. No retards, just the Democratic Party. Our society has become far to sensitive for my tastes.

So, to my PC friends, let me just say that: You're all a bunch of nappy headed hoes. ;)

Okay I admit that made me snicker!

Nothing to do with political correctness. Imus got fired because what he said was not good for business. Had he lived 70-80 years ago in the south and said the same thing on a pro-segregation radio station he'd still have a job. Why? Because people would love him for telling it "like it is" and it would have been good for business. When you insult people you run the risk of alienating some. This doesn't mean you don't have the right to insult them. You have all the right to insult whomever you want and your employer has the right to fire you if you alienate his business and customers. Capitalism and freedom of speech are hand in hand with this one.

What does firing him have to do with being politically correct? He said something stupid and offensive, his employers determined he was a net liability for the company, and he got shitcanned. That's how capitalism works.

He was determined to be a net liability, because there was the threat of boycott to advertisers who had spots during his show. The advertisers were BULLIED into pulling out, because at least they wouldn't be losing millions of dollars because of a boycott.

In recent years, yes, political correctness has become a rather serious topic, more so than it has ever been. It has gotten to the point where people are willing to censor themselves in order to be more "politically correct," which is just ridiculous.

From where I'm standing, political correctness is rapidly becoming the new McCarthyism.

Give me a break. McCarthyism tried to supress an ideology. Imus has all the right to say what he said. He got fired because what he said did not please viewers/litseners which in turn does not please sponsors. Simple as that. People who don't see it that way obviously don't understand that in the end this is a money issue. Not a political one. If it was a political issue Rush and Coulter would have been silenced a long time ago. Not given book deals.
