Give me a break. McCarthyism tried to supress an ideology. Imus has all the right to say what he said. He got fired because what he said did not please viewers/litseners which in turn does not please sponsors. Simple as that. People who don't see it that way obviously don't understand that in the end this is a money issue. Not a political one. If it was a political issue Rush and Coulter would have been silenced a long time ago. Not given book deals.

I agree. It is usually always about the money. :-(

Political Correctness has gone overboard, but this Imus issue isn't the big sign of that.

Imus said something stupid, and for some odd reason this time people finally decided to take notice. It still wouldn't have mattered until it became such a media frenzy that advertisers decided it was in their best interest to pull out, thus making him pointless to keep on the payroll. And they have every right to do that, and I don't blame them.

I'd have to say yes and no. Let's face it..even those who say this country is too pc gets offended over something..it may just be over different things.

I can be offended at least ONCE just by flippin my channels. PC has to do with what ppl are offended over,or not offended over. Nothing more nothing less!

Yeah. Like Christians getting offended over a chocolate Jesus.

But wait a minute. I remember when the pictures of Mohammed were printed with a bomb on his head.. MANY on this board saying it was not right for the prophet of the Muslim faith to be ridiculed in print. So, are you saying that Christians cannot be offended when they see that THEIR god has been made of chocolate, and in nude form?

I guess that's where I differ from most. The only thing in recent memory that I have absolutely been offended over, was having to do with a campaign that was going on a few months back. There were box vans going through the streets of Harrisburg (where I work) with pictures of aborted fetuses on them. Now, understanding it is their right to be anti abortion and protest, I thought that went a bit too far. If I went to where they were gathering willfully, and then saw those pictures, I'd have no right to complain about them, if I did not get up and leave. But I don't think that they should be able to just "shove" those images into my face, because walking down the street, I'm not willfully seeking to take those images in. *waits for the.. "Well don't look" crowd because as true as it is in MOST things, walking down the street... don't look = run over by car*

PC went overboard a LOOOOOONG time ago. One day, perhaps, people will learn they do not have a right to NOT ever be offended.

PC-ness annoys the everliving crap out of me

Theres a difference between saying that something isn't "right" and allowing a person their right to freedom of speech. People had the right to draw those cartoons. The cartoons might not have been the classiest of all but they had that right. Christians in this country have all the right to be offended. However when they chose to defend people in a different continent and afford them a right that they don't afford their own citizens simply because they're the ones who are being insulted. The hypocrisy becomes obvious. I'll support you as long as you're not insulting me mindset ;)

Not everybody who is offended protests(as you pointed out) but I believe most are offended quietley. Some just crusade for attention, and could care less about the cause they're championing for.

I couldn't care less how you draw any of these people, it's really foolish to get worked up over a picture or a depiction of some long-dead or mythical individual.

Because white people don't get all that worked up over Sharpton and Jackson.

Being "Human in nature" here I did get a chuckle out of that. In all seriousness here though, I just consider the source when some people make ignorant comments like they and many others do. :2wave:
