Being from Illinois there is currently a bill that would greatly expand gambling and is supposed to help pay for the debt that my great ol' state has racked up. It seems like a good idea on pen and paper, but then again Nevada isn't doing so hot either.
Thoughts?
GAMBLING IS WRONG-----Unless the Democrat Party gets a piece of the action..........
Just like DRUG USE IS WRONG.......unitl the Liberal Nanny State saw potential revenues from taxing the hell out of it

"Get the government's dirty hands off the economy! But gambling and drug use are evil! They must be banned!"
....these are the views of the Liberal Nanny State......unless they get a piece of the action.

It sounds like a good idea until you have loved ones that are addicted to gambling and those loved ones have kids and bills to take care of. It amounts to purposely getting everyone addicted to a drug so you rake in tax revenue.
Nobody is forcing you to gamble, so it's essentially an optional tax just like sales. It sounds like a good idea until you have loved ones that are addicted to gambling and those loved ones have kids and bills to take care of. It amounts to purposely getting everyone addicted to a drug so you rake in tax revenue.

what happened to personal responsibility?

The reason why Nevada isn't doing so well is because the tourism industry is pretty much all Nevada has going for it concerning it's economy. Their tourist industry is composed of gambling, legalized prostitution, and easy marriages and divorces. When other people have no expendable income, the tourism industry goes down.
So gambling is only bad for the states if they use it as a cornerstone for their economy. This is why Nevada isn't doing so well.
I am all for personal responsibility. However at the same time I am not for states basically turning people into addicts so they can rake in tax revenue from the addiction. I do not oppose all forms of legalizes gambling, I do support bingo. While it can be addictive like slots or black jack it requires the individual to spend a certain amount of time at it and the individual is limited by the cash they can spend on it because there is only so many cards an individual can handle at ounce.
I'm not sure what type of rage virus you have, but aside from your wild accusation that this is a Liberal initiative, I wouldn't understand for one second how making Casino's helps people climb out of debt. The only ones who do are probably the thousand or so workers they hire at the expense of thousands more who come and lose their money regularly.
But, let the free market soar, right?
Does THE LOTTERY help people climb out of (D)ebt?
Well it takes place in almost all 57 states.....even though GAMBLING IS WRONG.......but because The DNC gets a cut.......Its all good in the hood.
