The largest ignored story was the Democratic Mayor of San Antonio - after an off-record meeting with President Obama - gave the largest solar development contract to a S. Korean company that has never built a solar panel in that company's history - summitting a higher bid than bids by established solar American based companies.

The source story is CNN, not FOX.

That is the new Democrat and White House policy - DON'T BUY AMERICAN WTH TAX DOLLARS - pay more to create jobs in other countries.

Mayor Julian Castro backs solar power deal that sends millions abroad | kens5.com San Antonio

The question is why?

I seem to recall one of the women in the Petraus story was given "honorary diplomat" plates and told the NY Times this was after a meeting at the White House where she was made an honorary diplomat to S. Korea - and later that there was a S. Korean coal gasification deal going on for which she was to receive a 2% commission.

Like with everything now, the White House has no comment other than its looking into it and the bidding details for the San Antonio deal to pay more to buy from a S. Korean company that doesn't even make solar panels is secret.

Which is it? The formal Democratic policy is to not buy American made - even if it costs more?

Or is it just an example of massive political graft and bribery by the White House, Democrats and their mistresses?

Wow, that's insane, I'd give the office of the mayor the benefit of the doubt in saying that they'd never met the company, but it's really a mystery....

It was a unique deal, formalized under contract in July, that didn't just add enough electricity to power 80,000 homes. It also was an economic development project with OCI Solar, whose parent is a South Korean chemical company, and Nexolon, another South Korean firm closely tied to OCI, that guarantees a capital investment of more than $100 million and the addition of 800 permanent jobs here — with an average salary of $47,000, Mayor Julián Castro announced that day in January.

Local solar advocates, the mayor and others quickly defended the deal Saturday and said the CNN piece was riddled with problems.
Castro said the deal brings good jobs employing American workers in an industry that will be making solar materials here, “yet folks who watched that (segment) got the sense that the opposite was true.

Follow the money (if you can). San Antonio has many inefficiency in gov't examples, not the least of which is 13 "independent" school districts (Houston, which is larger, has one), each complete with bloated administrative staffs, building contract systems and their own security/police departments.

About the least accurate thread title in history.

The Mayor's response is a lot of non-answer drivel responses in which he basically says its too complicated for people to understand.

Do I get a prize for that then?

I think it is quite accurate.

Not in reality, no. As mentioned before, it's in fact an American company who happens to have a South Korean parent company, and will operate entirely within US borders in regards to both component manufacturing and maintenance. Looks like another case of misinformation run amok.

CNN did absolutely garbage journalism. In reality, OCI solar is moving building both its headquarters and a new manufacturing facility in San Antonio. The plan will create 800 local jobs with a minimum average salary of 47k annual.

This story does raise a few questions:

1. How is one Democratic mayor doing business with one Korean based company "Democrats saying DO NOT BUY AMERICAN MADE!"?

2. Why didn't CNN check the story better before broadcasting it?

3. How did this company win the contract if their price was higher than someone elses?

4. Last, but not least, did His Honor, the Mayor profit personally from this deal in some way?

Holy ****ing lies and distortions. Let's look at the real facts: CNN Airs a Bizarre Hit Piece on Julian Castro

Now, it’s true that CPS Energy, San Antonio’s giant city-owned utility, inked a deal in January with Korean-owned, Atlanta-based OCI Solar after a competitive bidding process that included American companies. But, much to the discredit of CNN, the story never mentions that OCI will build a manufacturing plant in San Antonio and move its U.S. headquarters to the Alamo City. Indeed, that’s what made this solar project so unique: CPS Energy and Castro required the bidders to not just submit a proposal for building a 400 megawatt solar power plant but also to lay our plans for bringing a manufacturing for building a 400 megawatt solar power plant but also to lay our plans for bringing a manufacturing facility to San Antonio, along with at least 800 jobs and a capital investment of $100 million. That’s about as local as it gets.

SO, not only is it going to be American made, it is going to create new jobs, in America, both directly and indirectly. And more: Solar deal for CPS set to bring 805 jobs - San Antonio Express-News

The deal will bring to San Antonio 805 jobs paying an average of $47,000 a year — a payroll of about $40 million.
Part of the agreement calls for a $100 million, high-tech manufacturing plant to be built by Nexolon America LLC on the South Side. The plant will build solar components.

Funny how I find no shortage of reporting on this, despite it being "unreported".

Oh wait, and more: San Antonio Current - News and Politics

CNN's Chicago bureau, where Rowlands is stationed, would not comment on the story by the Current's press deadline, but the story cites "multiple sources familiar with the bids" claiming OCI offered to sell solar to CPS for 11 cents per kilowatt-hour, while another consortium of U.S. companies offered a rate of 9.8-cents per kilowatt-hour. Yet, price per kilowatt-hour isn't everything, Lewis said, adding that other external costs impact the attractiveness of a bid, like the price of land for solar farms or the location of the manufacturing site. Lewis also said it's extremely unlikely anyone had access to pricing info for multiple companies that submitted bids — bids that were blind during the staff evaluation process. The details of each company's proposal are protected under confidentiality agreements, Lewis said. "This is the best company for San Antonio," she said. "The deal is right for the community. We're very pleased with the result."

So much for the higher bid nonsense.

Finding all of this took me about 5 minutes and a basic knowledge of how to type search terms into google. If you post crap like this without taking the time to do that, don't be surprised when you end up looking silly.

Could all of this mean that CNN is not a part of the liberal media that is just a mouthpiece for Democrats?

Could all of this mean that CNN is not a part of the liberal media that is just a mouthpiece for Democrats?

CNN should be treated like any mainstream media source, including FOX. Some one once came up with a great phrase: "trust, but verify". I generally assume mainstream sources are most likely accurate, but always check the facts. It is also important to start with a basic assumption: if it sounds unlikely, then assume there is more to the story at the least, even when I want to believe it. "Liberal media", "conservative media". "Faux News", all that is crap

Great "fact checking."

This is from your own source - buried at the bottom:

So, in a technical sense, you could say the profits from producing solar power are going to a South Korean parent company via its U.S. subsidiary.

So the fact is that for a taxpayer paid company - all the profits to go the South Korean parent company, as will all the top paying management jobs.

Hmmm... how did that get left out of the "fact checker's" cut-and-paste?

And THEN the "fact-check" response to the S. Korean company has never produced 1 kilowatt of solar power is - well silence on that one.

OR:
The details of each company's proposal are protected under confidentiality agreements, Lewis said. Again, your source, which certainly does NOT explain why taxpayers are paying more per kilowatt hour, does it? Don't example that in terms of competitive bidding at all. It is a response of "we won't answer because we agreed with the S. Koreans to keep it a secret from San Antonioiams and Americans."

The explanation for that company's bid being higher than American based per kilowatt hour is - DRIVEL abouts is how it is too complicated to understand and had to do with real estate - when it is completely irrelevant about real estate as the per kilowatt hour cost is the final cost to taxpayers - and their's higher. BUT what real estate is bought certainly could make a big deal in terms of political graft.

The only thing worse than dishonest is "fact-checking" dishonesty.

There is nothing dishonest in my OP. The claimed proof of "Fact checking" is. I read those defenses too. They are the belief you declare something fact-checked disproved with a pile of words then truth is defeated. ANY company would have brought jobs to San Antonio - obviously - for any solar project. But how much this costs the electricity users (public) is relevant. Where the money for profits goes is relevant. Where the top management jobs go is relevant. And what company/country holds the technologies and developed methods and equipment is relevant - and all those latter items - at extra cost to the city and taxpayers and electricity consumers - goes to S. Korea.

The high price, for the least jobs, for a foreign company that's until now not in the solar business. And alllllll the so-called "fact checked" words don't change any of that.

Well, all the profits go to Korea, except those that stay in the US, most notably in Atlanta(not to mention any money reinvested in the US). Further, OCI is a publicly traded company, so you can get some of those profits yourself if you want.

And THEN the "fact-check" response to the S. Korean company has never produced 1 kilowatt of solar power is - well silence on that one.

Probably not being responded to because it is a stupid point. OCI is one of the biggest green energy companies in the world with a history of success.

OK, let's slow this down for you: The costs to San Antonio and it's people are not based solely on the cost per kilowatt hour. This is something you have not refuted. Further, you have not explained how any one knows the actual cost per kilowatt hour since it is confidential. You have not managed to support the claim, nor have you refuted mine.

The dishonesty started with your title. When a product is made in the US, it is American made. San Antonio is in the US. Gosh darn it, the facts destroyed your argument again!

The dishonesty started with your title. When a product is made in the US, it is American made. San Antonio is in the US. Gosh darn it, the facts destroyed your argument again!
You may have to explain this using colorful pictures. :)

All the words don’t change simple facts:

1. What is the country of the parent company?
Answer: S. Korea

2. What is the country of the company that has never made a solar panel awarded the largest solar power plant in the USA?
Answer: S. Korea

THIS IS THE BIG ON AFFECTING EVERY FUTURE SOLAR PROJECT IN THE USA & ENTIRE WORLD
3. What is the country of the company that will hold all patents and processes for any patents developed in the project then for any production in the United States and the entire world for the next 2 decades?
Answer: S. Korea

4. To which country are the electric bill payers paying approximate 10% more (CNN source of 9.7/kwh vs 11/kwh?
Answer: S. Korea

5. With which country's company did the San Antonio government enter into a secret bid and secret contract agreeing the taxpayers and voters will nnever know the terms of?
Answer: S. Korea

6. What is the reason the S. Korean company got the contract?
Answer: It was agreed in secret meetings outside of the Open Records Act that no one can ever know the actual reason.

7. What are the specifics the deal for real estate that given as a reason for the contract? Buying what land from who for how much?
Answer: It was agreed in secret meetings outside of the Open Records Act that no one can ever know the secret land deal.

8. How was the actual contract bid by the winning S. Korean company superior?
Answer: It was agreed in secret meetings outside of the Open Records Act that no one can ever know the bid, so no one can know even if they are complying with the terms of the bid.

9. What is the reason now that bidding is over that the terms of the bid and the actual contract is to be permanently secret?
Answer: Because the Democratic mayor, his hand picked political committee and the S. Korean company all agreed contractually that the public, the voters, the people paying the utility bills and the press can never know.

10. What reason was given why all this was agreed to be kept secret forever?
Answer: No reason given

11. Why should we the people and voters believe this was legitimate and right?
Since they agreed in smoke filled rooms in secret off-record meeting that no one can ever the press or the public the precise terms, we should just take the Mayor of San Antonio's word for.

Oh, one other thing. Of all these American dollars, tax and utility dollars, to be spend, what is the county of every company that already makes solar systems but won't gain any development, any employment, no patents, and no manufacturing facilities from this record project:
Answer: The United States

^ Those would appear to be the facts.

Yet as soon as the word "Democrat" or "Obama" are attached to it, half of the American public and half the partisan hackers on the forum will rage at any suggestion but that is all exactly right and how it should be done.

Republican or Democrat, doesn't matter. That deal and the SECRECY of it reeks of corruption.

Oh yes, and so much for Obama claiming all the stimulous money was that it would be American companies with the projects because those projects would give American companies the patents that resulted. For the overwhelming largest solar project - to be paid by American local and federal tax dollars - all those future patents were just bought by Americans for the country of S. Korea. Why? It's a "secret."

Ever word Obama and the Democrats said about that stimulous for green energy money was to assure American companies had the technology and patents being the justification was an exact lie at the very moment they were saying it. They had just sent all the solar electricity end of that to S. Korea for at least the next 2 decades.

Sure, if you don't understand how international subsidiaries work.

Why don't you explain it? Specifically how a parent company does not own its subsidiaries , if that is your claim.

When in doubt, start with conspiracy nonsense and diversions from the lies you got caught in. Well played!
