Customers Called 'Fat Girls' on Restaurant Bill

You can sue, but not likely you would win. If they refused to serve them because they were fat, they might have a discrimination suit.

Why would you say if when its quite clear there is no if in that regard.

Please read the two sentences above. If you understand the statement, and are serious about not understanding the language, I'm sorry, I can't explain it any better.

It's a little disappointing to see the topic has changed from the behavior of the servers mocking their customers, to basically whether the customers deserved to be mocked. Would we be having that conservation if the server had noted "Retards" for a table with special needs children? Or "gimps and cripples" for a table of wounded war vets? Or "geezers" for a table of elderly men?

Bah. :(

All of those things you mentioned are unavoidable. Quit trying to draw parallels to actual disabilities and disabilities that people inflict upon themselves. Should they have been dissed ? No, it's bad customer service. Should building contractors be forced under the American with Disabilities to add reinforcements to office flooring and put in extra wide doors and increase the load capabilities of toilets ?

No.

You can sue for a ham sandwich and you would be astonished if you knew how some utterly absurd cases made money for people...all you have to do is convince the jury...or make them biased against the defendent...court does not mean fair..

No.

So the key here is that it is fine and proper to insult any and all customers who patronize the establishment with "avoidable"... avoidable what? Avoidable offensive appearances? Okay we'll go with that.

Table of people with exposed tatoos... "Tat thugs"
Woman with some exposed piercings... "Pincushion broad"
Couple wearing out-of-date clothing... "1970's Rejects"
A pair of plain, unattractive women... "ugly bitches"

All of those are avoidable, except of course being ugly, which is in the eye of the beholder. Yet your argument encompasses them all. You say they shouldn't be "dissed", yet you support the fact that they were and toss in a completely irrelevant comment about reinforced toilets.

People deserve to be treated with respect, especially when they are paying for a service. You seem to agree... except when it comes to "fat" people, who should apparently expect to be ridiculed.

I disagree, in too many ways to count.

I dont know how anyone can excuse writing on those womens check the fat girls...if its ok to use the fat girls its ok to throw a million other insults...racial..ethnic...sexual orientation...or the 3 scumbags the 3 ugly ones as an identifier or whatever else you choose...Sorry ..you are wrong..its not right and its not ok to do that and embarass and degrade people that have done nothing to you personally...alls fair in love and war...this was neither.

Horrible customer service, guy should be fired, but I laughed

Let's not pretend this isn't pretty funny.

Theres alot of things funny to some people when its not you being laughed at...I dont think it was funny to them

Why does it carry negative connotations other then if its associated (broadly correctly) with dysfunctional behavior? If so then there is a solution to that.

It doesn't matter if it is associated with dysfunctional behavior, genetics, medicine usage, illness, or some other unknown cause.

Most people find if very offensive to be called fat, and I choose not to be judgmental, and to be considerate of their feelings.

Agree, but would not be astonished. I am very aware of frivolous litigation; unfortunately many of those cases result in an out of court settlement regardless of their merit.

Michelle my Belle...anyone who is fat cannot be seen in her presence...haven't you noticed??? She wouldn't even let Oprah around because she was fat. Michelle Obama is a bigoted you know what.

what some are missing is he didn't intend to insult them. He was using a common tactic of servers

I know my former girlfriend was a TGIF server-manager and my wife was in that business for years as well. such shorthand for keeping track of guests is common.

The server must have realized that the women would see that, and that is where the cruelty comes in IMO. It's pretty mean.

well no argument there. it sounded unintentional by the guy who wrote it

Unintentional? Okay.

servers used to say stuff like "run the appetizers to the three hilljacks sitting by the window table. another said (after a party of black males came in) "the drinks go to the cellblock in tables 40-43 (and that was a black server)

its common

I don't know TD. Table numbers work well too you know. :2razz:

yeah true enough I am just telling you what I know from having once lived with a server and now I am married to a former one as well.

years ago there was a rail thin black lady server-her brother had actually been in a class I had helped teach before he went onto Harvard Law. His sister was as sharp as he was so one day during the Xmas season she comes to my table and points to a large party of overweight white women. She says-hey I can cut drunks off when they want another drink, can I cut porkers off when they order a second round of the most fattening desert we have? so I told her maybe if she shared her weight prevention secrets with them they'd tip her better.

she just laughed and said some people just like being cows!

we couldn't help but laughing. cruel-perhaps-but still funny

Cruel, but not as cruel as if she had handed them their bill with that written on it.

no doubt. but if society was harsher towards fat people do you think it would curb obesity rates

Ok, we can give him a pass, but it does remind me of children who say they didn't mean it, instead of saying I'm sorry.

And, perhaps shorthand for fat girls should be FG.

I honestly don't know. I'm sure a lot of fat people get made fun of, especially kids, so I really can't say. Maybe it would backfire and they would just get fatter?

is referring to fat people as fat all that bad-what is the alternative

obese
overweight
calorically overindulgent
metabolically inappropriate eaters

hard to say, I remember years ago a popular and fairly intellectually rigorous talk show host had some sort of psychologist on his program and they suggested that reason why many inappropriate behaviors were escalating in the youth was that peer pressure against such behavior had been suppressed-be it nose picking, dressing like a slut or being a fat kid

Use the shorthand you mentioned; OB, OV, CO or MIE

I don't know why the word "fat" is so offensive. That is what it is after all. It's fat. If it were me, I would prefer fat to obese I think.
