BBC News - Chinese school attacker executed

Quote(A man who attacked 29 children and three teachers at a nursery school in east China has been executed, state media says.

Xu Yuyuan, 47, knifed his victims at the Zhongzin pre-school in Taixing city in the Jiangsu province on 29 April. )

That would have been April 29th /2010.

This man was arrested, tried, found guilty sentenced to death and finally executed.

Much better system than permitting a condemned person to live in prison for anything up to 18 years and then attempt to escape justice by claiming conversion to religion.

I feel like there has to be some sort of middle ground between 18 years and 1 month to reach a result.

Well... I kinda agree with you RightNYC, but, and hell I didn't get to see the evidence, it's one of those rare occurences, where a clearly guilty man, got what he deserved.

I agree. 18 years maybe a long time, but in like a 5 or 6 year time frame there can be at least two appeal cases I would imagine. God forbid it is found out that the person put to death is innocent, but because we killed them within the first two months it is too late.

I do have to admit that at least in this instance this person was patently guilty and thus deserved his punishment.

Personally I am not in favor of the Death Sentence if that is handed out for circumstantial evidence, there have been far too many people executed who have been subsequently found to be innocent.

I think it very likely that China does partake in the sale of Human Organs.

Should these come from executed criminals, I suppose that rationally speaking the Chinese would assume that something good comes from these criminals.

I'm for the death penalty, since mostly I think people like the person who did the crime in the op don't deserve to

However I still think they should put him in prison instead of sentencing him too his death.

One of the parents say that the man deserved to die for what he had done to those children.

Because the Chinese justice system is inherently corrupt and dishonest, we have no way of knowing if the man who was executed was actually the guy who conducted the attack on the school. Even the statement of motive that was released could have been fabricated.

It could have been the right guy for all we know, but you can't trust Xinhua news agency with anything they say.

I am against the death penalty in general but I always feel even more uneasy about executions in China for the reasons above.

Heh... the U.S. system has its problems but it is nowhere near the level of corruption in China.

As long as he was found guilty without a doubt and it all wasn't circumstancial I support someone being executed quickly.

My stance on the death penalty is currently that the state should not be able to seek the death penalty, unless requested by the next immediate family member who is competent.

That would certainly prevent a lot of political posturing and politicians taking credit for a tough-on-crime approach, but that could also turn the families into targets for said politicians. Whether or not the family member requests the death penalty could be a subject of unwanted scrutiny.

Ill take it further, the family should be allowed to execute said criminal.
