DRUDGE: MICHELLE CAMPAIGNED INSIDE POLLING PLACE?First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!
The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.
After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.
She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.
"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.
According to the pool reporter at the scene, the conversation took place IN the voting center not far from the booths.
Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place."
A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT how Mrs. Obama may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.

Drudge has this as a headline, waiting for the "rest of the story". We'll see how it pans out, but I'm thinking Mrs. Obama was in fact, campaigning.
So Mrs. Obama DIDN'T campaign in the polling place because you all dislike Drudge?
What most likely happened is someone came up and asked her a question and she answered. I'm definitely not going to take Matt Drudges word on it, that's for damn sure.
SSAB"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."
Obama abided by election laws that prohibit electioneering within 100 feet of a polling place.
She did pose for pictures and told one voter: "Make sure you get everybody out there voting. This one counts, as much as the other one."
Yeah, that's the ticket. She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.
"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.
According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place INSIDE the voting center, not far from the booths.
It wouldn't matter if she had ten PhDs, she's First Lady which means she has permission to be stupid! It's now on Cable News... just saw it.
So let's boil away the partisan nature of the source, if she WAS campaigning on site, should they do as the Ill. official says?

Rather, the elections official said, Obama told the group how important it is to vote early and vote in general, a perfectly appropriate suggestion at a polling place. Campbell's characterization of the conversation may simply have included his political position, that he voted "to keep her husband's agenda going," but not that the first lady had specifically encouraged Campbell to support Obama-friendly candidates.
Even if one of the other voters had mentioned their support for President Obama and the first lady agreed, she would still not be in violation of election statutes because she would not, in that case, have initiated the political conversation.
This is funny because once you get passed the Drudge report most reports just said she was encouraging people to go out and vote early, which isn't breaking any law. A quote from the Fox Blog
First Lady's Voting Day Stirs Controversy | Foxnews.com
She campaigns for her husband just by BEING there - she's his wife and the first lady. Her face is a walking billboard.
So, basically, who gives a damn?
If she broke the law punish her
yeah sure - from here on out I won't pay any attention to her and I surely won't vote for Obama.
Oh wait - hah! Already done.
Doesn't matter if anyone listens it matters if she broke the law by her actions.
She was promoting democrats and the presidents agenda. That is political speech and campaigning
It's not on camera - it's hearsay.
Which is baseless.
