It's bloating from too much salt.Hmmmmm, here is a photo of Assemblyman Ortiz, the one introducing this most excellent legislation. Do I note a pot belly on the notable Mr Ortiz?
It's bloating from too much salt.
I guess only in states like Commiefornia and NewYork they have the food police to regulate what people eat. I think if politicians in my state did something that absurd they would be looking for a new job and possibly lynched.
Assemblyman Ortiz Pushing to Reduce Salt Intake
January 26, 2010
Albany – Today, Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz (Brooklyn-51 AD) announced that he is introducing legislation that would prohibit restaurants and food establishments from using salt when preparing food for consumers. New York City Mayor Bloomberg is advocating for a similar initiative that reduces the amount of salt in packaged and restaurant foods by 25 percent over the next five years. Ortiz believes that, by putting the control of the sodium intake amount into the customer’s hands, it would give them an option to exercise a healthier diet and healthier lifestyle.
A report issued by the World Health Organization indicated that three quarters or more of the sodium intake in the U.S. comes from processed or restaurant foods. Another study by the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that lowering the amount of salt people eat, even by a small amount, could reduce cases of heart disease, stroke and heart attacks as much as reductions in smoking, obesity and cholesterol levels. Scientists in that study claim that everyone would benefit from less salt, but people at higher risk for heart problems, i.e. people with hypertension or people over 65, would benefit the most. The study also stated that: “If everyone consumed half a teaspoon less salt per day, there would be between 54,000 and 99,000 fewer heart attacks each year and between 44,000 and 92,000 fewer deaths.”
Ortiz is the author of several pieces of legislation (A.5520-A, A.6620, A.8711, A.9145, and A.9176) that are aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and fighting obesity in New York State. Recognizing the harmful effect that high sodium intake has on our public’s health; he strongly believes that restaurants should cease the use of salt while cooking. “These numbers speak for themselves – it is imperative that we respond NOW – for the sake of the health and future of our citizens”, said Ortiz.

Still trying to figure out how "consuming less salt" means that we should ban salt entirely, or how such a ban "putthe control of the sodium intake amount into the customer’s hands" when the consumers aren't able to choose high sodium options, because they're banned.
What a wacko.
Ortiz should learn that cooking with salt =/= sprinkling salt on a cooked meal.
Come on guys. The government isn't all that bad. They just want to be our loving nannies, and if we would only just give them half a chance, they would love us to death.
The writing was on the wall when they banned trans fats but no one wanted to listen then.
Slippery slope is valid in this instance.
Proposals like this are just awful and only serve to hurt legitimate proposals like those advanced by Bberg by confusing people into lumping them all together. What a douchebag.
I was going to make the point that most of these diet nazis are in horrendous shape. I eat a lot of sodium, I drink alcohol, and I smoke(trying to quit). These are the types of people who would call me unhealthy, yet I am cut, I can lift over 110% of my body weight on any major muscle group, can sprint for over 3/4 of a mile at full speed without getting winded, and can survive the most brutal of aerobics workouts, so.......I'd say they can take their health law crap and shove it up their unfit rears.Hmmmmm, here is a photo of Assemblyman Ortiz, the one introducing this most excellent legislation. we call those things...... calculators :ssst:

didn't bloomberg suggest he would support something like this?
"When this passes you can start blaming "the government" for it."
I think we agree at the core of liberty, we just disagree on the methodoligy and philosophical points. But I've noticed we're both anti-statists, which is okay in my book.LaMR, we don't agree on much, I've noticed, but on this we do. Stupid legislators who know they can attack restaurateurs (usually small businesses) and so they do. They know they can have no impact on the huge, food multi-national corporations who are pumping s**t into supermarket and fast-food sludge, so they don't even mention them.
This whole decision is ignorant, discriminatory, ineffectual and dangerous to the livelihoods of thousands of workers and small entrepreneurs.
What are they going to do if I take a salt shaker into the restaurant with me? Force me to season my food outside on the sidewalk? Move over smokers, the salters are coming to join you!
