One thing I notice in the states is portion size in restaurants. Meals should come with a wheelbarrow in the states - man you get a lot of food, can’t walk after you’re done. Also, I love Mexican/Tex Mex we don’t do that well here.

Canada is so cool my US brain couldn't keep up at first. I remember topping a hill on Cape Breton in Nova Scotia and wondering why that horse was trying to cross the road. Low and behold, it was a moose.

Other: For My field (Astronomy) ..not so good. Most of the cosmos is non-seeable. Health care= much better. Education=much better Weather= Not good at times.
People there are happier, from what I've experienced. Not so damn crowded. Most of the politicians are not crazy sociopaths. Here, we don't have a problem with another country invading our shores,,,war. Wish we had the best of both countries but not-to-be. I'll stay here and Australia.

I am curious if the bolded statement is an Australian view of American politics? It would not surprise me (as well as sadden me) if that is the way Australia (not just you) sees the US.

Wait a minute, aren't there orcas where you live?
Yeah, but they spend all their time posing for whale watching tour boats. Got agents now, some of them, and collect residuals.

The only thing keeping me from applying for citizenship is the cold. I live in FL and am totally acclimated. My nephew owns a popular Fishing Lodge with 15 cabins that I would love to work and live in. And at least weed is legal. :D
we DO have summers, ummm, like two months of the year ;)

The US, because it's not all a frozen wasteland like Canada.
Yeah, we like it that way. Keeps our country from becoming a buzzing hive of uniformity like, uh, certain other places.

I get cold in the 50's F, so I'd be miserable for 10 months.
I would roast in the southern states, and the northern states are like Canada, just saying

Imagine an entire country north of Buffalo, NY? North of North Dakota?
They say the mosquitoes have been known to kill people but I think that's bullshit. I think the people slapped themselves to death.

My sister is a Canadian who's lived in the US and says there's no comparison. Canada is better. Personally, I've never been and don't know?

- Canadian students score higher on tests and more have post-secondary degrees. Life expectancy is higher in Canada and the suicide rate lower. Health care and higher education costs are significantly higher in the U.S. Crime is lower in Canada. Many think the US supposedly wins with lower taxes, but that is changing. -

Methinks you should have maybe followed custom and included "right now" as part of the discussion, which is the reason I voted "OTHER - PLEASE EXPLAIN".

Speaking of "right now"?
Hell, for a good many people Ghana is better than the USA. 😮
I say "a good many people" and not JUST Stevie Wonder because he's been receiving a lot of support and he's also in good company, what with W.E.B. duBois having moved there a long time ago.

Right now, a LOT of places are better for the simple reason that you won't be subjected to threats of civil war and Rwanda style divisive propaganda, on top of a largely ignored global pandemic and a major political party that dreams of dictatorship, on top of ridiculously expensive healthcare and higher education which is largely unobtainable unless you're fairly well off.

But all of that is indeed "right now" because a generation ago it wasn't like this.
And that means we KNOW HOW to run this place better than we are "right now", we're just lacking the political will and the stomach to actually do it.

Are you asking of the overall quality of life is better in Canada than in the United States? If that is your question, then yes it is by virtually any measure. Canada is basically like the United States if the United States were to ever actually get its shit together.

I'm an American living in Canada over 10 years, and I'd say they're comparable. They both have pros and cons, like anywhere, but IME it balances out.

Northerners are a complete mystery to me how they cope with extreme cold. Tiger mosquitos only appear here in FL after a Hurricane and are about an inch in length. Their bite is as bad as a Yellow Fly.

No country is perfect. But in general I find Canadians as a whole a lot sharper.

On the negative side they have some crime and they do have the French Canadians too.

Since I have had family in Alberta and B.C. the thought has been tossed around of moving up there but that would be a tough one.

I have to agree with your assessment of the timing. Currently, the US is in a big old mess.

You would wear communism well, my friend.

Yes, the country needs worker bees too. But what we don't need is the worker bees trying to drag the eagles down to their level.
Eagles? Gawd. Scavengers. Carrion feeders Here, this is the garbage dump near Vancouver...

I in point of fact DID roast in the Southern states, which is just one of many reasons the wife and I moved back to Southern California.

Our real estate is better, other than that, Canada beats us on every measure that we should care about as individuals.

How is our real estate better? I hope you don't mean cheaper.
Aside from Vancouver, that's easily disproven.

I'm sure I'd acclimate much better than you, except to any humidity. Legal weed is a requirement, and as long as I'm not required to watch or participate in curling, I could move there.
