Can Donald Trump actually end the Ukraine war? Jeffrey Sachs thinks he can

I compare the two pictures in this post and see so much in common. The same stubborn defiant demeanor.
That's a thing we share with Ukrainians.

The other thing we share is a complete lack of giving a shit when it comes to what Russia wants.

An open letter condemning statements Jeffrey Sachs, professor of economics and director of the Center for Sustainable Development, has made on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has garnered hundreds of signatures, including those of seven Columbia economics professors and one Ph.D. candidate.

The letter, which has 311 signatures as of Sunday evening, was written by Economists for Ukraine, a global collective of economists and academics working to end Russia’s invasion and rebuild Ukraine. It was published on March 20 [2023] by Yuriy Gorodnichenko, a professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley, on the Berkeley Blog.

The letter identifies five recurring patterns in Sachs’ op-eds on his personal website: denying the agency of Ukraine, the idea that NATO provoked Russia, denying Ukraine’s sovereign integrity, pushing forward the Kremlin’s peace plans, and presenting Ukraine as a divided country.

Wojciech Kopczuk, a professor of economics and of international and public affairs who signed the letter, wrote in a statement to Spectator that he was spurred by the call for action as an economist who cares about the war in Ukraine. Additionally, Kopczuk wrote that he did not wish to be associated with Sachs’ viewpoints as a fellow Columbia economist.

“Having an extremely prominent member of the economics profession frequently and publicly speak about the conflict in ways that ignore Ukrainian agency, repeat Russian propaganda, misinform, and directly engage with sanctioned Russian propagandists … offends me enough to warrant speaking out on it,” Kopczuk wrote....

Last week, Jeffrey Sachs, the economist and professor at Columbia known for his work in the fields of poverty alleviation and foreign aid, delivered remarks to the United Nations Security Council about the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline. Sachs, who was invited to speak by Russia—but who told The New Yorker that it was “important to note” that he was there on his own behalf—called for an investigation of the incident. He has previously suggested that the United States was responsible; so far, no evidence linking the U.S., Russia, or any other nation to the attack has emerged. These were notable remarks for an economist to make, and highlight the degree to which, in recent years, Sachs has become outspoken on a broad sweep of geopolitical topics, from the war in Ukraine (he wants the West to negotiate a solution immediately) to China’s repression of the Uyghur population (he thinks the use of the term “genocide” is mistaken). He has also blamed Anthony Fauci for the role played by the U.S. public-health apparatus in funding research abroad, in part because he thinks COVID-19 originated in “U.S. lab biotechnology.”...

...[M]ore recently, he [Sachs] appeared as a guest on the podcast of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who has become one of the most prominent anti-vaccine activists and conspiracy theorists in the country....

Everything pretty much.

There's no point calling you out on it because you'll just copy and paste some twitter link and then drop the conversation.
Says the guy who only knows what the corporate media tells him.

Russia won the war a while ago but the chicken hawks will pretend that Ukraine still had a chance to win and Trump is just giving Ukraine away and depriving them of victory.

It's pure delusion which happens to people who have been brainwashed by corporate media war propaganda.

BULLSHIT

You have like five stock phrases you just repeat until you abandon the conversation and start the cycle again in another thread.
It's true. You are doing the CIAs work for them on your own by using the juvenile tactic of accusing anyone who criticizes US foreign policy or strays from the Ukraine was narrative as pushing Russian propaganda. Do you ever feel embarrassed for parroting CIA talking points?

I don't say you use Russian propaganda because you disagree with the US's involvement with Ukraine.

I'm saying you use Russian propaganda because you literally repeat Russian propaganda.

Yes you do. The Ukraine war supporters accuse everyone of pushing Russian propaganda if someone dares to post something outside if the not credible corporate media.

You sound like George Bush. "Either you are with us or you are with the Terrorists"

You do literally parrot Russian propaganda.

But since you clearly know so much, why does the Nuland phone call talk about bringing Yanukovych aboard the new government if she was orchestrating a coup to oust him?

Embarrassed? Naaaaaa

These same kind of people fall for the war propaganda every war and never question why we are always lied to about the wars and they never wonder why we are the country involved in the most wars. Zero critical thinking.

They parrot the BS that we are doing it to protect freedom and democracy while Ukraine had canceled elections, banned political parties, & raided churches. It's comical that they are so dumb that they fall for it. They only listen to corporate media sources about the war and they've been trained by that media to reflexively accuse anyone who dares criticize US foreign policy or stray from the narrative as supporting Russia or pushing Russian propaganda. It's so juvenile and laughable that they think it fools anyone who doesn't get all their news from rhe corporate media or that can think critically.

They also never look at how it's mainly about power and money and how the military industrial complex is enriched no matter what. Assange said it best which these same people will call Russian propaganda. New age McCarthism.

Nobody holds elections when a war is raging. Political parties with ties to Russia were banned, and why not? America interned Japanese people during WW2, as did Britain with Germans, Austrians and Italians. Britain also banned Oswald Mosley's fascist party which disbanded in 1940.

There's more critical thinking in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland than in this forum. What is worse is not the total absence of critical thinking. What is astounding is the rejection of critical thinking itself.

Keep in mind these are folks who swallowed without critical thought the astonishing UK Defense Ministry fabrication that Russia was so short of arms she was sending soldiers to battle armed with shovels. It raised no eyebrows because it was only one of dozens of fabricated absurdities regurgitated without critical thought.

My favourite is the passionate declaration by our zero critical thinkers that that Ukraine inflicts a 10 to 1 casualties on Russians even though Russians enjoy a 5 to 1 advantage in artillery. It's plainly false, but try explaining that to them.

There are names to the persecuted by the Ukrainian KGB. Last year His Eminence Metropolitan Ionahan of the Canonical Orthodox Church was sentenced to five years in jail. His crime boils down to his Russian ethnicity.
