Calling it now, Avatar will be a bust.

Firefly was an EXCELLENT Sci-Fi show. I liked Serenity as I was a fan of Firefly, but it was short (since it was a movie) and couldn't go as in depth as the series could have. But as with all great series on Fox, it was canceled. Fox has something against good Sci-Fi, it canceled Firefly in its first season (BOO on that, if you haven't seen Firefly go rent the series and watch it. You'll love it, and then be pissed about where it had left off and that it got canceled) and never treated Futurama right, eventually leading to its cancellation.

It's so cool that there are Firefly fans here!

Joss Whedon, is the greatest! And for any ladies here who don't like Sci-fi shows, it stars Nathan Fillion! ;)

Was that the leader? I'm not a female but I did think he was cute:3oops:.

A sci-fi film I liked was star-trek. It was so goofy that just made it enjoyable to watch.

Avatar won't be a bust what's wrong with all the haters here is that they are all conservatives. Conservatives don't know how to enjoy things.

I'll avoid this one. I agree, I hate movies with transparent political messages. This one sounds weak on plot. I did love IronMan though. It had bad guys all around though.

Nathan Fillion played Captain Reynolds. So yes, he was their 'leader'. God, I miss that show... :(

As for Avatar, I'm going to wait until I see the movie before I make up my mind about it.

I think the movie will be worth it strictly from an entertainment/visuals point of view.

I plan on seeing it 3-D IMAX and imagine it will be one of the first movies that comes close to being a thrill ride experience

I know some had a problem with Iron Man but I thought it was just a little left leaning because it didn't trash the military.

It had some awesome terrorists of the most brutish variety, a good love story, a weapons manufacturer turned super hero fighting the evil Islamic zealots who are trying to overthrown Mom and apple pie, aided by the greedy Western traitor. Main character undergoes a spiritual transformation after much suffering, and becomes a man ready for a relationship with a worthy and beautiful woman.

It doesn't get much better than that!

Good Greif! Are fairy tales "left leaning" too? I mean they are definitely against capitalism and pro-worker right?

Yeah, that's right, James Cameron's $500,000,000.00 movie will fail at the BO.

When I first heard about it, I was intrigued. As more came out, I really wanted to see this high end, 3-D Extravaganza...

Then I watched the long trailer at the theater... and I realized it was gonna be "Battle for Terra" level political preaching at it's worst.

The whole plot, centers around a marine with out the use of his legs... he is sent to the planet Pandora, to help with an experimental "Avatar" program.

I.E. the inject his mind into a created body, that happens to be the same as the native blue creatures living on the planet.

Now, why does he have to do this... well it seems these creatures, live on a plot of land that JUST HAPPENS to be the location of the most dense source of some mineral that sells for $20,000,000.00 an ounce... And our intrepid Marine, why, he becomes one with the natives, and realizes he must lead them against the EVIL Us Military, come to wipe them out for the greed of corporations that want that mineral.

"Bows and arrows" against super high end military!

The trailer was chock full of anti-military, anti-war... it's an anti-Iraq war movie, 8 years too late to have any meaning.

I was so turned off by the trailer, I was compelled to post this.

I do NOT like being preached at in a movie. And cliched, tired old BS really gets under my skin. I won't watch movies that do that, EVEN IF I agree with the preaching. I want to be entertained, not beaten with a hammer about some political crusade the film makers demand I get.

Piss off Mr. Cameron, your movie will bomb.

Sounds like a fantastic movie to me. :)

I heard it was leftwing propoganda.

Piss off Mr. Cameron, your movie will bomb.

I have a question. If it turns out that Cameron has done it again, and this is the amazing cinema experience that everyone who's seen it is saying it is, will you take back everything you said?

If it turns out that it really is the greatest cinema event of the decade, will you apologize to Mr. Cameron?

So I just saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was pretty incredible. All the negative predictions are nonsense, as the theatre was packed, and it got a huge standing ovation at the end. I never understood clapping for a movie, but people felt the need.

What's wrong with a movie criticizing?

I thought the Right was wanting to tear down the walls of Political Correctness.

I just returned from seeing it and the people clapped at the end of the movie. Awesome movie, definately one of the best films I have seen for a long time.

I just got done seeing it. I wouldn't say it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. The plot was overdone, and it dragged in parts (it FEELS like it's 160 minutes long). The saving grace (and it was a big one) was the visual effects. They were, quite simply, stunning. It was, without a doubt, one of the best looking movies I've ever seen in my life. I would recommend going to see it just based on that to be honest.

It reminded me of "Fantasia" in the artistry and attention to detail - and like Fantasia it might never get it's money back but it will remain a "classic" because of the beauty and breadth of the imagination as well as the attention to detail

Predictions for the weekend box office of Avatar are impressive at $75 million. Some are saying it will have great staying power.

"As of 4:30 p.m. PT, MovieTickets.com is reporting 429 sold-out showings of Avatar. The ticketing site is also reporting that 75 percent of sales this week were for 3D of IMAX 3D showings, which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise since Avatar is being hailed as a revolutionary technological achievement. The sci-fi extravaganza will be playing on 3,129 3D screens.

It certainly seems that 20th Century Fox and James Cameron can relax a little bit. Interest in Avatar seems to have reached a strong level, and it should boast solid staying power beyond its opening weekend."

Boxoffice > The Business of Movies > Featured Stories > UPDATED: Weekend Predictions

Last week, predictions for its total run in the United States was $210 million. That was before all the positive reviews though. I think it could make more than $250 million in the U.S. alone.

What do you think the word of mouth will be on it?

Yes to see it? No? Maybe?

Good Greif! Are fairy tales "left leaning" too? I mean they are definitely against capitalism and pro-worker right?

Did you even read my post? I said I didn't think it was left leaning.

Please learn to read more carefully.

Just saw it. A painfully obvious liberal political message underpinned the entire movie.

Bad guys = military (who are painted as mindless killers) & corporate interests (who have no soul).

Good guys = scientists, academics, and indigenous people.

There was even a reference to "shock and awe" in the movie. Does any of this sound familiar?

Anyway, the movie was great...:rofl

The FX were incredible and the movie was very entertaining, despite its blatant attempt to brainwash the audience with liberal propaganda.
