At Rick Perry’s Texas hunting spot, camp’s old racially charged name lingered

Not particularly interesting. In fact, entirely predictable. Right wing Republicans and racists see nothing wrong with the term 'niggerhead'. Everybody else finds it racist and offensive. What's entertaining about that?

Your comment is indicative of what makes it entertaining. I am a conservative Republican and no a racist. I hate the word that was on the rock. As I said, your comment confirms what I find entertaining.

This is the most absurd thing for any honest journalist to ever decide they want to write.

The media is in campaign mode.

Still trying to care.

Nope, still don't care. I think I would rather we worry about something substantive. Of all the reasons to condemn Perry, this ain't one of them.

Rick Perry's answers in 2011 are misleading, in that the dates the offensive name was painted over, and to what extent the offensive name could still be read are not clear. Rick Perry's actions, on his own, seem inadequate to express concern, and personal repsnsibility, for effectively removing the offensive name. Rick Perry could not afford to hire a painter to uses some paint remover? Rick Perry can afford a prt of a lease for a hunting lodge, but cannot afford to buy some paint remover?

"In response to follow-up questions, Perry gave a more detailed account.

“My mother and father went to the lease and painted the rock in either 1983 or 1984,” Perry wrote. “This occurred after I paid a visit to the property with a friend and saw the rock with the offensive word. After my visit I called my folks and mentioned it to them, and they painted it over during their next visit.”

Rick Perry's cover up story is not well detailed and witnesses say the name was visible in 2010.

"As recently as this summer, the slablike rock — lying flat, the name still faintly visible beneath a coat of white paint — remained by the gated entrance to the camp."

Rick's reply would indicate the rock was turned face lettering down, but it was actually face up. Rick is a lousy cover-up liar, not good presidential qualities. Nixon was a better cover-up liar than Rick.

I agree, this is going to hurt Herman cain more than perry

that is true. it reinforces his image of a candidate who can't control his mouth; but is now playing into democrat attacks on his fellow republicans - think of it has his newt gingrich "right wing social engineering" moment.

And so now you've googled it too! I'm sure Wikipedia and Google provide you with all the context you need to put a real depth of perspective on racism in this country.
