In that lengthy and often prescient novel, set in a near future dystopian semi-socialist America, many capitalists decide to abandon their enterprises leaving the government to scavenge the corpses of their companies instead bleeding off their profits for their own use.

Famine and civil war ensue.

Now we have a similar opting out, not by capitalists but by professionals not willing to comply with vaccine requirements. Right now nurses and likely airline pilots, but more to follow as the mandates grow.

It will be hard to measure the effect of these walkouts, especially if they are not reported as such. But we will see a reduction in availability and quality of professional services.

Combine that with possible government "shutdowns" and i say if you're not a prepper what are you waiting for?

Getting all tingly at this fantasy? Let's look at United Airlines experience...

United received 700 applications for about 400 job postings last month at a Denver career fair. Similarly, it has received more than 20,000 applications for about 2,000 open positions for flight attendants, the spokesperson said.

You've never done a very good job of hiding your seething Ayn Randian vindictiveness. 🤣
NOBODY is irreplaceable.
NOBODY. Not even the richest people on Earth.

That's an interesting feeling, but I'm finding that a bit hard to believe. Source?

Edit: To the degree that you value my opinion, Ayn Rand is not someone I take very seriously.

Read The Fountainhead. Read Atlas Shrugged. They're the same book. She refused to work with an editor on Atlas Shrugged so John Galt's radio address is about 6 pages longer than need be. Objectivism is simple-minded.

Thus far none of what's posited in the OP is panning out. Sure, there have been some people who quit over this, but those numbers are dwarfed by the many who complied.

I tried to read Atlas Shrugged. Just couldn't make myself keep slogging through it. Good on you for the effort. ✌️

Socialism is really simple minded.

Atlas is too greedy.

Not worried about it.

I guess you must not have read it.
You're right. I read The Fountainhead. Ayn Rand prescient...nope

Getting a couple of things right in a huge book hardly qualifies as prescient.

"Atlas shrugged" as prescient? You mean that bit of self-puffery whose author went on the dole the moment she could, all her "brave" words aside?

What it failed to predict is a huge chunk of one side of the main political aisle doing the same miserable crap out of greed. No doubt that is because Rand didn't want to admit her greedy assholery until it didn't really matter because she was going to die anyway.

It's only ever cited by people who want to puff themselves up as big tough rugged individualists, but those same people will take every last government service they qualify for, knowing all along they'll never be in a position to actually put their money where their mouth is. That is, we're never going to see the anarchism that Big-L Libertarianism pretends it doesn't represent.

A principle you never have to stand on and pay for standing on is no principle at all. It's a pose, a posture, and a fraud.

But then, I'm more addressing all comers to the thread. You have relentlessly spewed COVID/AGW disinfo and now appear to be laughably threatening us with societal collapse if people have to wear masks and get vaccinated, just like they do re: polio and all sorts of other awful stuff, just to "own the libs."

...as is capitalism. It is finding the right blend of capitalism and socialism that requires thought.
I thought we were doing fairly well until the socialists came along.

The socialists are responsible for Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, free public schools, and on and on. You would be far from fine without the socialists.
