That is true, but this appears to be at least an awkward lunge at an assertion based on ballistics: The “lethality” of the assault-style rifle due to the manner in which its ammo rips apart the body results in more deaths (as opposed to survivable injuries) than when a handgun is used.

Are those from the same year? And how many were killed with handguns. The biggest handgun mass shooting was 32 at VA Tech. Total murder by handgun far outwieghs AR's. For that matter murder by automobile surpasses AR's.
AR's are just a good target but the number of deaths by them pales in comparison to handguns. Suicides account for more than half of the gun deaths.
