Almost half of voting aged people didn't vote -- record lows

Because the candidates sucked.

For many of them, i suspect it is simply because they were told the candidates sucked, and were often too lazy, ignorant, or gullible to evaluate for themselves.

No, the candidates actually sucked. There wasn't a single person running in any party this time around that actually deserved the office.

Why do you think so many people didn't vote this go 'round?
I forced myself to vote for Clinton because Trump had a chance at winning.
And some of the down-ballot people interested me. Almost all those I voted for lost. Especially that one independent guy who wanted to establish a non-partisan commission to draw district lines - basically he was anti-gerrymandering.

A few degrees to either side and I might have stayed home entirely, because my god the options were absolutely horrible.

I'm speaking of the Republican, Democrat, and Libertarian candidates here.

Um, no. They actually and literally sucked. Okay, not literally. I can't not type that word.

Whatever you gotta tell yourself to sleep better, I guess.

What we had was probably the two least appealing candidates to ever seek the office squaring off against each other. Trump was ever so slightly less bad than Hillary. That is the reason he won.

The choice was between the two least popular candidates in US history. It isn't exactly a mystery.

It doesn't matter if they actually sucked. That's not why they neglected to vote. They neglected to vote because they believed that the candidates actually sucked.

They didn't believe anything, the candidates actually, qualitatively sucked. Belief was not required.

Because both Candidates sucked ass.Its like retards went and picked the worst candidates they could in the primary despite the fact the democrats had 2 candidates much better than Clinton and the republicans had 11 candidates who were a hell lot better than Trump during the primary race. Despite my state not allowing write-ins I wrote "none of the above" on my ballot and voted in the other races and ballot questions.

Actually, to be fair, I think you had the FOUR least appealing candidates to ever seek the office. If Ross Perot had run this year, he might have won. The two main party candidates were terrible and the third party candidates didn't even provide a credible option.

This year was a prime opportunity for a third party to make a breakthrough in US politics - they also failed miserably.

Nope. It's because both Hillary and Trump DID suck.

The thing is, the turnout is usually not much better. It seems to me there is massive cynicism, disconnection, alienation, and despair among many in relation to politics today, and that doesn't say much for the functioning of democracy in the US.

I haven't confidently backed a candidate since Ron Paul in 2012. I didn't like any of the candidates this year, it wasn't until after the primaries that I decided to vote for Trump.

I just personally felt he was the lesser of two evils, and the way I saw every aspect of the establishment and mainstream media obviously praising her, lying about wrong-doing and constantly bashing Trump, I felt Trump needed every vote he could get.

Apparently many other people felt the same.

Belief is still involved. I believe that 1 + 1 = 2, i also know it to be true, but it is still a belief.

No need to believe it, it is defined that way.

Actually he won because key Democrat voting blocs either stayed home or voted third party.

I wonder if they stayed home or voted 3rd party because they thought she sucked?
