Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest - Yahoo News

Almost 80,000 people had by Monday signed a petition urging the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes when he visits London next month.

The petition was launched earlier this month by British citizen Damian Moran and is posted on the government's website.

"Under international law he (Netanyahu) should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the UK for the massacre of over 2,000 civilians in 2014," Moran said, referring to the 51-day offensive by Israeli forces in Gaza last year.

If the number of signatories reaches 100,000, the petition can be considered for debate in Britain's parliament.

Well we all know that the UK government will never arrest any of their allies for war crimes but they ought to- just because youre an ally it shouldnt excuse you from justice for committing horrific atrocities.

Re: Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

Except Netanyahu isn't guilty of war crimes, so the petition is just nonsense.

Yeah. Reminds me of the (idiotic, and hilarious) claims that if Bush landed in the EU, he could be arrested for human rights abuses or some such

I wonder how many of these people have tried to get their government to arrest actual murderous dictators?

Re: Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

No case, no court, no warrant or order.

And mobs don't decide.

Off the top of my head, there have been attempts to arrest Mugabe, and Pinochet whilst on British soil.

Especially since he hasn't been formally charged. Besides, there's a million of us over here who don't want him arrested.

They are too busy inviting Arab terrorists to speak at their fundraisers for that.

How many multiples of 80,000 or 100,000 people of Arab descent live in the UK at this time?

There are more Pakistanis than Arabs if I am not mistaken, but the current Muslim population numbers close to 3 million.

To be fair, I can't imagine more than 2.9-2.95 million hate the leader of the Jewish state, however.

Re: Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

One needs to see that anti-Zionism, where not permeating the larger part of Britain, has a decades long tradition among certain factions there and quite irrespective of political leaning. One need not be right wing, Labor MP Jeremy Corbyn being a prime leftist example.

As such Muslim immigrants are not in the least bit required to reach 100,000 signatures. With most of Britain's Muslims having their cultural roots in Pakistan or Bangladesh, they're probably not all that interested anyway.

By the 2011 census around 360,000 (British Arabs).

Well, with Mugabe it was more something of a citizen's arrest by an activist group. It failed.

In Pinochet's case it WAS an actual arrest by the British authorities, based on a valid (Spanish) indictment. He was held for 18 months I believe, before returning to Chile, there to die before he could be tried by the state's judicial system.

Re: Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

I recall a failed citizen's arrest attempt on Tony Blair.

An overactive imagination's not often a good thing.

Petitions like this are the same as petitions in the US that the local government ignores but threads like this always bring out the foolish and uninformed to state in not very well hidden terms that the UK is a festering mass of pro-jihadi, anti-Israel sentiment. Where we allow free speech, it is turned into a pretence we only invite anti-Israeli or hate speakers and this is in complete ignorance to the fact we have invited Netanyahu here on a visit.

Dontcha just love the internets?

UK Gov said:
The UK is a close friend of Israel and we enjoy an excellent bilateral relationship, built on decades of cooperation between our two countries across a range of fields. Our priority for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains the achievement of a two-state solution, based on 1967 borders. We continue to believe that negotiations will be necessary in order to achieve this, and that both parties need to focus on steps that are conducive to peace. The UK Government will reinforce this message to Mr Netanyahu during his visit. Link.

So ignore the pretence that we are busy inviting muslim hate speakers only.

Wut???? Of course he is. Naturally he'll never be convicted, the entire UNSC could vote to make it binding but the US would only veto it. You know the things you correctly accuse Russia of but excuse the US of. That freaks safe for now.

True.

That is why I stick so close to the reality as is indicated by reliable opinion polls.

Exactly what I was thinking. And how many are "radicalized" (actual Muslims)?

Re: Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

Sorry. No hes not.

One of the most vile postings to ever appear on this board was by somebody who reprinted a piece from another site that called for the elimination of any and all laws that prevented the hunting down and killing of Jews.

Montecresto actually submitted an official like for the post

Who, Monty? Our Monty? Get out of here.

Did you have to check with Jeremy Corbyn, Ken Livingstone or George Galloway before saying that?
