Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles[W:63: W411]

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Like I keep saying you can scream to the high heavens and it does not in any way make it legal in Washington DC, period. It is also prohibited in 6 other states which the SCOTUS has at this point chose to uphold.

So you have no leg to stand on.

SCOTUS upheld the Dred Scott Decision, too; which proves that sometimes, SCOTUS gets it wrong.

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Hurray for strawmen!

So, you support the oppression of some civil rights, but not others?

Don't miss the hypocrisy train!

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Goshin, I have to point out, that as DC is the seat of power for our nation, allowing armed people, around our elected leaders, on the face of it, sounds dangerous and foolhardy.

Yes and no, Gina. :)

On the one hand, you have a certain point in that DC is a dense concentration of lawmakers, chief bureaucrats and elected officials, and the other apparatus of government... and certainly there is reason to be concerned about the actions of lone-wolf loonies as well as terrorists, etc.

However, those officials and buildings are EXTREMELY well protected, not only with armed guards and metal detectors and such, but also with radar, anti-aircraft batteries, advanced sensor systems of a classified nature, and what have you... in reality the officials are pretty darn safe from anything short of a large army (and probably no hijacked airliner would ever get a chance to hit the Pentagon or any other DC target again...)

OTOH, DC is a very high crime area, and thanks to the draconian laws in place the civilians who live there and visit there have very little means of defending themselves against those criminals (who have better sense than to bother Senators or enter high security buildings). It used to be a standing joke "I went to DC and got mugged in our nation's capital".

The time I went to DC as an Event Marshal, we were warned to be very alert on the Mall and to stay in pairs or groups due to the street crime.

Personally I think the people of DC have as much right to effective self-defense as the people of Atlanta GA... but the latter gets that right, and the former do not.

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

It used to be illegal for black people to sit in the front of the bus, too. Let's go back to those days! That'll be awesome!!

Strawman. This is not a question of civil rights.

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Strawman. This is not a question of civil rights.

The 2nd Amendement isn't a civil right?

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Not saying anything like that. I am saying we all know it means us, the people. So it is irrelevant for the sake of this discussion.
And I'm saying it's cut off because it's inconvenient for the position of gun supporters. The more often you can only quote the part you want people to read, and not the part about being a well-regulated militia, the stronger your argument becomes. After all, we also know our founders believed in training the populace with those weapons.

Should we disarm everyone in Baton Rouge? Austin? What about when Obama comes to town? Confiscate all the guns?

It's the same old reality: gun laws aren't going to stop someone from committing a gun crime.

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

When universal background checks are law, will gun owners obey them or purchase their guns illegally? Genuinely curious.

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

Surely the cops are smart enough not to build a wall of steel to stop these cats?

I've had the pleasure of working with the DC Park Police, and IMHO they are very professional folks who make EVERY reasonable effort to avoid violent confrontation with protesters..., including enough sense to put a stop to small stuff without necessarily making arrests... and I came away from DC with a healthy respect for that dept.

However, this isn't something they could ignore or let slide; the law as it is written is clear, and their duty would compel them to stop this group from entering. I'm sure they'd prefer to do so peacefully, but do so they must according to the letter of their sworn duty.

Then there's the political angle... someone higher up might decide they want to play chess with people's lives using this incident as a flashpoint...

Background checks are already the law...LMAO!!!!

No, I simply oppose strawmen.

I have no doubt that the vast, vast majority of Americans (and every single court in the land) oppose Jim Crow and view it as a blemish on our civil rights track record. What weapons can be carried by who and how and where and when is still a subject which is hotly debated.

Sorry for the ignorance, sir. I wasn't aware that all of the loopholes were closed.

I think the fall out from using deadly force to stop this protest would be way more than any politician, or law enforcement commander could bear.

Remember how people nutted up when cops simply used pepper spray on the occutards?

Re: Adam Kokesh to lead march of at least 1,000 on D.C. with loaded rifles

It's the whole civil disobedience thing that seems to have worked so well in the past.

Just imagine if Martin Luther King had said, "oooooohhhhhh, nooooooo, don't do that! It might get violent!"

Yeah, well it did. The thing is MLK wasn't bringing 1000 men with loaded rifles along, which ups the ante a lot.

I mean don't get me wrong, on one hand I admire this guy's stones... but you KNOW if anything goes awry, no matter whose fault it is you know how the media will play it, and most of the sheeple will swallow whatever they are told by same.

Again, 1000 men with loaded rifles changes the equation substantially. I'm concerned the potential for dumbfrackery or a simple mistake on one side or the other is substantial.

Well, the media is going to come down on the side of the anti-gunners, no matter what. So, the pro-gun movement is running out of options to make it's point. If there's any blood shed, the lamestream media will get part of the blame, as well.

It's a hole in the shape of a loop, I think. Please educate me.

Kinda like Kent State?
