2016 Presidential Election night discussion [Read #1397]

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

WTF is taking so long for more of GA's results to come in? We closed 2 hours ago.

The vote counters had to take their shoes off to count past 10?

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

With local elections, how could you not go just because you don't feel you will win the presidential vote? You need to vote in order to get your voice heard. If states always voted one way, why would we have an election every 4 years for president, we could just keep it with the party who won 50 years ago.

the same way turnout is so horrible at midterms. You also seem to have no idea what 'local elections' amounts to in rural areas that are half population. It's basically 1 name for sheriff etc and no competition and then 1 house seat where the repub is 100% going to win

They have one redneck drinking moonshine counting it, and he keeps losing count.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

1 bottle of pinot noir down.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

i would have preferred Sanders as the nominee.

I feel like I'd be less nervous right now. The only reason this is close is because they are both awful.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

Trump's gonna take Florida and Ohio. Impressive.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

Update though and I thought he may win. the major population centers are as low as 16 % reporting and they go Democrat. this will be a close one.

"Tight as a tick" as we used to say in Indiana. Miami-Dade is 93% reported. Broward much less. Palm Beach a little more than half.

I think he's gonna take Florida. Ohio I'm not too sure about.

But if he loses one of those states it's over for him.

Looks to be Atlanta that's holding things up.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

Trump's running pretty impressively all around, IMO.

Big Dem turnout left in FL or not, Trump being up 150K is pretty significant.

Ok...so you went from a discussion on the national level to a discussion on dog catcher in Timbuktu, Iowa. You are basically telling me you are so disenfranchised that you won't vote for national or local elections and there is nothing you can do to against the one name on the ballot for dog catcher. Seems like you are oppressed, but refuse to use your God given rights to do a damn thing about it.

He's so taking Florida.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

So reminder of the two big things I was looking for tonight, based on the assumption that Hillary is definitely taking the election

1) Does Donald Trump outperform Romney in terms of % of the popular vote and the electoral college.

Thus far its hard to say in terms of the popular vote. For the electoral vote though, if he actually manages to take Florida, and especially Ohio, then it'd actually look good for him outperforming Romney. Which is going to have a major impact in the aftermath of this election in terms of the internal workings of the GOP and the battle that comes after this. AND, it's going to be important in terms of the ability for Democrats to put forth a compelling argument, if they choose to even try to do so (which, even though I disagree with them, I'd DEFINITELY do if I was them), that there was some significant "mandate" in her win.

2) Do Republicans manage to keep ahold of the Senate

So far, they've lost one. It's a narrow margin for them, especially if Ayotte continues to lose as it looks like it's going to go. This is going to be big for them, and it's going to be interesting if Trump massively outperforms Romney but at the same time if the Republicans end up losing the Senate. Really curious to see what happens here. Perhaps it ends up actually being a split senate?

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

Donald Trump is in the lead in NC.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

If Trump gets Virginia, say hello to El Presidente Trump.

The northern counties are usually conservative and they are an hour behind the rest of the state.

With 9 million votes in, if there are a ton of democrat votes left this turnout was amazing

I'm not quite confident enough to do it yet, but I"m about as close to calling Virginia for Hillary as I could possibly be. You likely don't have much to worry about there.

Go look at the Northern Virginia reporting numbers and you'll see why. A lot still outstanding there. This happened I think in 2012 as well, where it looked good for Romney early and everyone was all excited....and then the late surge came because there's a LOT more votes to count in NOVA and thus they're always the last to get their numbers in.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

I'm speechless atm lol. It's looking waaay better for Trump than I thought.

yep. pretty much.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election night discussion

He's so taking Florida.

If he does it will be a huge blow to Clinton.
Fl voters are finicky.

The southern part of the state are usually liberal except for the Cubans.
They tend to lean conservative.

The northern counties can usually outweigh Miami fade and broward.
